Imogene Wigg has loved her life at the foundling home where she was raised. It gave her a loving family and the skills to better her mind and her future. When she finds out that they all have to leave their home, she doesn’t want to go, but Madam didn’t raise her to be a shrinking violet. So, while everyone thinks she’s headed to Bower, Colorado to be a Mail-Order Bride, she’s actually going there to apply for a job… in a print shop. There is nothing in the world so exciting to Imogene as the creation of the printed word and she wanted to help create it.
Printer Silas Hix has been advertising for an assistant, but the one man who inquired about the job hasn’t shown up. Instead, he meets a young woman with a keen mind and an interest in his work. It’s just too bad that a bachelor can’t hire an unmarried woman to work alone with him. What would people say? But sometimes it’s hard to remember his reservations when he realizes that Imogene is probably the only person in the world he’s ever had an easy time being with, or wanted to spend more time with just to see her smile, or hear anything she has to say.
Well, it turns out that Mother Nature has plenty to say about the two who share a love for printing machines and don’t mind ink stains on their fingers. She’s not above stacking the deck in their favor and suddenly the future’s out of both of their hands and in front of the Pastor.
What does fate have to say now that they’ve met someone who is just their ‘type’?
This book, the ninth in “The Alphabet Mail-Order Brides” series, and is connected to my “Bower, Colorado” Series.
As of all the other girls Imogene needs to leave the orphanage to marry and build a life. But she doesn’t want to get married, the only thing she wants is to work in a print shop. When she arrives in Bower she’s drawn to the print shop and his owner Silas. She can’t work for him but she helps his as much as possible until ........you have to read that for yourself. I really enjoyed this story, Imogene is such a nice character who makes the best of everything and Silas is so sweet. It’s fun to catch up with some characters of the Sweethearts of Jubilee Spring.
This was just a delightful Historical Romance! The love Ms. Torres has for the time period she writes about shines through in her books. Her characters are very likable and easy to relate to even through the time distance. This was a totally lovely clean romance. Imogene was a very interesting character. She could have felt pity for herself in regards to her upbringing, but she embraced it and felt nothing but love for those around her. She wanted to do type setting for a newspaper and she went after the job. I really liked Silas, too. He was the strong silent type with strong morals and dedication to his work. I loved the way he reacted to Imogene, which seemed out of character for him the rest of the time. He had a special reaction to her from the start. The HEA ending was just as sweet and special! I was given this book by the author. All thoughts are my own.
What an amazingly sweet novel! Imogene is such an amazing young lady, with hopes and dreams not always realized in that day a time. The immediate if unseen attraction between herself and Silas is lovely. This story is set in a time where women didn’t have much say in the world and is beautifully written. Madam Wigg is a generous spirit and loving women who brings up the most wonderful young ladies. As on raised by Madam Wigg, Imogene is skilled in what it takes to be a lady and to take her proper place in society. Imogene has dreams of doing so much more and in Bower Colorado, she finds the perfect place to do what she dreams. Alongside Silas Hix. A quiet individual who is the printer in Bower. He has all Imogene can ever dream of doing. Fantastic characters and a wonderful storyline, perfect for the HEA lovers!
IMOGENE’S INGENUITY is the ninth story in The Alphabet Mail Order Brides multi-author series. It also shares a connection to Ms. Torres’ Bower, Colorado series, and it was such fun to run into old book friends immediately upon Imogene’s arrival in Bower.
Of all the ladies of the Wigg School and Foundling Home we’ve met so far, Imogene has a passion that is not centered in teaching. Imogene is completely in love with the printing press, with the ink and setting the small metal squares in place to create the pages of books or other items that will live on for years. She’s also more practical in her attitude of leaving the only home she’s ever known. Yes, she will miss Wiggie and her friends desperately, but she’s also ready for an adventure that could give her not a marriage but independence. She’s about to get all that she’s looking for in perhaps a much different way than she imagined.
I was completely caught up in Silas and Imogene’s romance. I wish I could talk about this book for I enjoyed every single aspect of it, but to do so would ruin your enjoyment of discovering this gem of a romance for yourself. It was such a feeling of coming home to arrive in Bower, Colorado once again. If you’ve read HOME TO ROOST then you’ll know exactly what I mean. And we get to catch up on how things are going for some amazing characters, and unfortunately, discover that one jerk of a male still resides there (I’d hoped he would have moved on). I had a blast with Imogene, Silas, and the majority of this small, growing town’s residents and if you love Western Historical Romance then I believe you would enjoy your visit as well. I would definitely recommend IMOGENE’S INGENUITY to readers who enjoy a good romance, believable characters, some drama, good friends and a happy ending that completely satisfies. I loved this one and cannot wait to visit Bower, Colorado again.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
This is the ninth book in The Alphabet Mail-Order Brides series. I loved this story that has one of the adopted girls, women now, from Miss Wigg’s home as she adopted those girl babies or little girls, that were left at the church or orphanage. She adopted many who she loved, raised, gave them good education, then sent them off as mail order brides. Imogene was the ninth mail order bride to be sent off and she was going to Bower, Colorado. One thing she didn’t tell Miss Wigg when she was going to leave was that she didn’t really have groom waiting for her in Bower. She had answered an ad to be a type setter at a printing shop. This was a job she loved to do. She was lucky to spend time in her local print shop and found it was really suited to her. She was settled into the boarding house so the next day she went to visit Mr. Hix the printer she applied to for the job. She really liked him and his shop. Then she went back to the boarding house and there were so many men there she didn’t understand as they weren’t boarders. She found out word travels fast in a small western town where there aren’t many women and so the men came to check her out. This happened every night. She kept returning to the print shop everyday and one day was a bad day to get distracted. All I can tell you is this is a very good book to read and I don’t want to spoil it from here on. So, I encourage you to read this story and I am very sure if you love historical western romances you will love this story. For someone that didn’t want a husband Imogene found many things good about the town of Bower, CO.
I received this ARC from the author and I was not asked to leave a review. I did so with out compensation but because I loved this story and wanted to review it.
Imogene Wigg told all of her sisters and Madam Wigg at the Foundling School where she was raised, that she is traveling to Bower, Colorado to become a Mail Order Bride. A condition of Madam Wigg was to have each of the girls she raised move into the world as Mail Order Brides and to open a school that would follow her way of teaching in their chosen city. Imogene has other ideas... She plans to get a job and live on her own. She has been in contact with Mr. Silas Hix, owner of a print shop. She corresponded with him as "Gene" and is planning to follow her dream of working there. She has always loved all the intricacies of a Print Shop. One of her favorite things to do is set type. He has no idea what he is in for in the coming days! Arriving in Bower, She procures a place to stay, and heads out to meet Mr. Hix. She doesn't have the heart to tell him she is "Gene." She is also the talk of the town and all the eligible young men in town, flock to the boarding house for dinners. Silas is also drawn to her. She is the first Woman he feels comfortable talking to. A surprise snowstorm that dumps a ton of snow pushes Imogene and Silas to make some big decisions. An obnoxious character, A cluster of women totally unique and different from each other make up a delightful cast in this delightful return to Bower. You don't want to miss this installment in the Alphabet Mail Order Brides. I received an ARC of this book. I am choosing to leave an honest review.
Imogene Wiggs has watched her sisters leave one by one, and she will be the next to leave New York City and move westward, but there is only one problem. She doesn’t have an intended to become a bride. Instead, she has answered an advertisement to work in a print shop in Bower, Colorado—but not in her full name.
Silas Hix had a dream to have his own print shop and eventually even start his own newspaper. While he has a business that keeps him busy, he could use the assistance of someone with the typeset, and he is waiting for a man to show up to assist him. When a young woman walks into his shop, he explains he is a bachelor and that it wouldn’t work. What happens when Silas and Imogene become friends, and she works her way into his business helping him?
A single woman in a town full of men doesn’t take long to have them all showing up at the boarding house for dinner each night. Even the recluse, Silas Hix will make an appearance. When he speaks, his words are poetic describing the beauty of the area. Imogene and Carolina tell him he should write about the area and help bring in others. What happens when he does just that and has Imogene read it?
Is it fate when both Silas and Imogene are so busy working in the print shop that they ignore what is happening outside? What will the townsfolk say when they are snowed in together? Is this a chance for them to save their reputations and forge a future together?
I really enjoyed this book. This is the first book I have read in this series and it will not be the last. The setting is the small town of Bower, Colorado. Men outnumber women so when Imogene arrives in town, she is noticed. The immediately is embraced by the sweet members of the community. But Imogene's real love is the print shop. She has secretly been talking with the owner by mail but he believes her to be a man. In this time women just did not work in print shops for pay. When Imogene steps foot into Silas Hix print shop she is immediately drawn to the letters and the ink.
Silas Hix spends the majority of his time in his print shop. He says very little to the community members but when he meets Imogene he is not only drawn to her beauty but they share common interests. Imogene begins to volunteer to work in the print shop off and on. The feelings develop between them slowly and steadily, but when they both get too focused on their task, trouble comes. Silas and Imogene find themselves answering the angry faces of the community members and there is only one solution to their problem. Marriage. But can it work between the two? A man totally focused on his work and a lady who has no plans of getting married? It is definitely worth the read to find out.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest feedback.
Oh, how I enjoyed this book. I feel like I am placed back in time. Imogene's Ingenuity is realistic. I can see the town, the church, the Boarding house. Imogene Wigg is leaving home. It is time for her to spread her wings. Imogene is a fan of the written words. Books, books and more books. Any kind of book will suffice. Imogene has even taken to helping out at the type setters office. There is a store keeper in Bower Colorado that needs an assistant type setter. Imogene has decided she will go to Bower to see if she can be of assistance. How will Silas Hix treat the newcomer in town? She had made Silas believe the telegrams that she sent were from a man and not a woman. Would Silas be angry? I find Silas an amazing man that previously had nothing important to say. Now that Imogene is here, Silas opens up and shares his thoughts and impressions of the town as well as the trip to Bower Colorado. This book made me feel good on the inside. I was hoping that Silas and Imogene would be a match made in heaven. Since they both have a love for the printed words. I highly recommend this sweet romance.
Imogene was left on the doorstep of a community church when she was an infant and was taken in by Madam Wigg who gave her a home, love and an education. Imogene grew into an industrious young woman who loved books and was fascinated by the printing of them. When she answered an add for a type setter for a printing company she followed her dream to Colorado. Here she met Silas, the owner of the printing company, but although Imogene was qualified he would not hire her because she was a woman unmarried and he was a bachelor. Imogene finds more and more printing business for Silas and on one stormy night they were snowed in together in the printing office. Imogene was not looking for a husband, Silas was not looking for a wife, but by morning the entire town of Bower, Colorado knew they spent the night together. Will Silas marry Imogene to save her reputation? This is a great story and Reina Torres once again writes a fascinating story about life and love on the frontier. I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Imogene's Ingenuity(The Alphabet Mail Order Brides Book 9) by Reina Torres takes us back to Bower, Colorado. Imogene Wiggs doesn't want to be a mail order bride! She wants to work in a print shop,so when she sees a advertisement for a printer assistant in Bower, Colorado she applies. Silas Hix own a print job and he needs help, so he advertises for a printer assistant, but the one man who applied and he offer the position to hasn't shown up! Or has she? Even through Silas can't hire Imogene these two people can't seem to stay away from each other. Old man winter does his part by sending a massive snow storm that ends up keeping them both in the print job over night. Will a "shot gun" wedding make these two realize that they both can have it all? I so enjoyed getting to go back to Bower, Colorado and meeting up with old friends. This book is a stand alone. Home To Roost is set in Bower, Colorado. It is also a stand alone book.
Imogene was one of the orphan from Madame Wigg's Orphanage and Foundling Home. Madame Wigg was sending her girl to the west to marry as mail order brides and start a school modeling hers. Imogene wanted to be an apprentice printer as she had in New York. She has an appointment with the town printer for an apprentice position, however she had not made him aware she was a female. He would not hire her because it was not proper for a single lady to be alone with a bachelor, but she did talk him into allowing her to help once in a while. A rogue snowstorm traps them together over night and they are forced to marry to protect her good name and reputation. What will become of them as neither had planned to marry. You will enjoy this book.
Imogene has to leave the orphanage to build a life of her own. She leads Wiggie and her sisters to believe that she is headed to Bower, Colorado to be a mail order bride. Honestly, she is stepping out on faith that she will be able to work in a printing office. What she finds in Bower is so much more than she could have imagined.
Silas has lived his life alone and doing what he loved. He has a printing office in Bower. Imogene is a breath of fresh air and he is drawn to her.
I loved this story so much. I enjoyed visiting with characters that I met previously. I enjoyed seeing their relationship develop and turn into something sweet.
I received an ARC from the author to read. All opinions are my own.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is a sweet historical romance between Imogene Wigg and Silas Hix. Imogene travels to Bower, Colorado to get a job not a husband like she told Madam Wigg and the girls at the Foundling school where she was raised. Silas owns the printing shop in Bower and is quiet and keeps to himself. These two are perfect for each other and I loved the connection they have with a love for printing. The writing is perfect, the characters are amazing and the story is beautiful. Reina Torres is a fantastic author that always pulls me into the story leaving me wanting more and I look forward to reading anything she writes. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
A most excellent historical romance! Although I am not a real fan of the historical romance genre Author Torres has completely won me over. Her romances are like a breath of fresh air from the other genres I read. I loved this story set in the time of mail order brides. It is beautifully written with wonderful characters. Imogene, who is traveling west is not looking to be a mail order bride as Madam Wigg intends but rather to find a job in the profession of printing. Silas Hix believes he is corresponding with his new employee, "Gene." When Imogene arrives in Bower, all bets are off. A wonderful friendship turned romance with the perfect HEA.
This is the first book I’ve read in the Alphabet Mail-Order Brides series. Imogene’s favorite quote is, “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven” from Ecclesiastes 3:1. I totally believe this and found it perfect timing to read this sweet book. Being the first book I’ve read in this series, it is special and it is a plus that I loved the story-line. When Imogene finds her match in a print shop, it becomes a partnership for life. Imogene and Silas love their work, their friends and specially each other.
A sweet, wholesome story, part of the alphabet brides series.
Imogene Wigg has spent her life among the orphans at Mrs. Wiggs foundling home. She longs for nothing more than the smell of ink and the clink of type, so she answers the ad of Silas Hix, a printer looking for an assistant. once she travels to Colorado, she realizes that the fates have conspired against her. How can a single man have a woman as an apprentice? And why must her stomach flutter when Silas is near? After all, her goal is to remain a spinster.
A lovely story of unexpected love in the old west.
I absolutely loved Imogene's Ingenuity. Imogene and Silas are such heartwarming characters and perfect for each other. I love the setting of the book in a small Colorado town. The people there are caring and welcoming to Imogene when she comes to settle into her new home. I think it's great that Reina brought back characters from a previous book. It also happened to be a book that I enjoyed and it was fun to see the continuation of their story, too. This is a great, sweet read, especially on a cold snowy night. I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend it!
Imogene's Ingenuity (The Alphabet Mail Order Brides Book 9)
Great storyline, you know you're in the old West when you're new to a town, been off the train for one week, get caught in a snow storm, having to spend the night together with a man & you. HAVE TO GET MARRIED IMMEDIATELY!!
Great characters. Imogene had every intention of working in the print shop. Isn't that great? You just have to read how it's accomplished; & there is not a conniving bone in her body
WOW!! It all turns out well, absolutely Great Read. Enjoy
Imogene and Silas share a unique passion in the art of printing. It is the reason they converse almost daily. When a snowstorm drops feet of snow, they find themselves trapped together, in every sense of the word. Forced into marriage due to circumstance, they have to finally confess their true feelings for each other.
The books is the ninth of the series, but is the only one I’ve read so far. It’s a sweet romance between to Imogene and Silas and their shared passion for printing. That same passion and a little help of Mother Nature led them to a path the neither one of them was planning. An amazing and delightful Historical Romance, interesting plot and well developed characters. I enjoy very much the book and highly recommend it
I loved the story of Silas and Imogene. She wants to work at his print shop but if she does it could ruin her reputation. So she tries not to spend to much time there. She does love working with the press.
Actually she was coming to town to be a Mail order bride but she actually just wanted a job at the print job. Read and see what happens. Love the different spin on mail order bride.
Imogene have to Colorado to find a job, not a husband as Madam Wiggs from the Foundling School has instructed. She traveled out there to find a job, preferably in a printing company. Unfortunately, a snow storm left her stranded as she was helping set type for Silas Hix, the owner of the printing company. When she was found the next day, her life would be changed forever.
I love these characters. Sweet and engaging. Made me feel like I was reading about old friends.
The story made the location so believable and made it easy for me to picture the town. It was filled with information to bring the charters personalities to life.
Reina is amazing at building beautiful historical stories that keep the reader engaged.
A very creative and entertaining series created by multiple authors. With each new author we get a great story starting with the first letter of the alphabet to continue to the end of the alphabet. Each story is unique and exciting. I highly recommend you read this story and the others in this series.
A very sweet, old fashioned story. Since there were 26 children, I'm guessing this might be a very long series. I hope to read them all. Nicely written with good characters that you just have to hope all things work for them.
This book was gifted to me by the author in return for an honest review.
Imogene's story is fun, surprising and thoroughly enjoyable. Her relationship with Silas develops slowly and is very sweet. I also really enjoy how the various townspeople react to Imogene and her relationship with Silas. This was a delightful continuation of a fun series written by an incredible group of authors!
Imogene was pulling a fast one on Wiggie. She didn't want to be a teacher. She had ink in her blood. Silas kept looking for a man named Gene to come work for him. His printing business was keeping him very busy. He met Imogene and his life will never be the same. Excellent series.
I have not read this author before, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a new favorite for me. I love how a young women seeks her own dreams and she is basically dropped into an ideal but somewhat pressured new life. Good character development along with plot twists thT kept me reading.
This is a lovely story. I love Imogene's character and that she is a woman that knows what she wants. And Silas is such a quiet man, until he's around Imogene, and then it's like he just comes to life. They make such a lovely couple. This is a great book that I'm sure you will like. Another great book in this series.
