Retribution

Rate this book
RWK Clark returns with an emotional roller coaster filled with twists, turns, shocks, and surprises in this serial killer psychological thriller.
A new head nurse is prowling the pediatric ward, and while she seems to be the biggest blessing to join forces there in a long time, this nurse holds on to a dark and twisted secret. One that brings out the monster with the people who have trusted her the most.

It’s an evil that walks the halls, ensuring trust in those that see her caring smile. With soft blue eyes, an inviting and kind aura, who doesn’t love the new nurse. When they learn about her bravery they welcome her with even wider arms.

There is an evil lurking that everyone is completely oblivious to. Who will be the next to bring forth the monster?

Author Commentary
‘Retribution’ is the fifth book I have written that I would call a psychological thriller. What I wanted to convey when I wrote ‘Retribution’ was, there are terrible people in the world, more horrid than anything we can imagine. But why are they that way? What is it that happens to them, that may transpire to others, inconsequentially or not. Do these experiences cause them to inflict harm, damage, and death?
So, I had to attempt to convey a touch of compassion for Marissa. I didn’t want my readers to empathize with the protagonist, but I wanted them to sense her emotion.
Is Marissa as terrible a person as we all believe, or is she a victim of horrible circumstances? Is she nothing more than a product of her environment, or is she a monster who cannot be comprehended, regardless of the injustices bestowed upon her?
These are the questions I wanted to ask. I have written about human fear in its realest form. It is the worst fear of all, the types of things that keep us awake at night. The things that have every possibility of being real, those are the horrifying things; those are the things that will tear us limb from limb.
It is not for me, even as the author, to determine whether or not that is right or wrong, fair or unfair. In the grand scheme of things, anything can happen to anyone, and it is only a personal perspective and choice that dictate how they will use what they endure.
What is the message behind ‘Retribution’?
Simply put, the message is nothing more than a question. No matter what we are presented with, or attacked by, or hurt because of—what will we do?
How will we use the rocks that are thrown at us? Will we collapse on top of them, a mess of near-dead emotions and bitterness down in a hole of despair? Or will we pick them up as they come, one at a time, and begin to stack them, making one step after another out of them until we are able to find our way out of the hole.
Whatever you do, don’t let life and all the troubles it is made of destroy you; allow it to create and strengthen you. The choice is always yours, and yours alone.

Retribution: A prefect title

Retribution is only slightly less bizarre as Mindless but it is just as unreal and unsettling. The psychological aspect of this book really doesn't get into full swing until close to the end. But what an ending! I would love to see how and where Mr. Clark gets his unbelievable ideas from. His mind works at a whole different level of weirdness. A level that I am enjoying.

Disturbing!

It was probably the subject matter but I found this book difficult to read. It was very well written and the author chose a disturbing subject on which to base his plot. Just not for me, I'm afraid.

Not my favorite

This one was ok, very calm after Mindless. I will read a few more and see what happens. I did really like the characters.

This is the second book of this author that I have read. I was held captive by the first and was looking forward to reading more books by him.
Once more I was immediately drawn into the story. Mr Clark definitely knows how to get your attention. I don’t want to give away the story with my review. The subject matter is one I first became aware of after I had my oldest child. I was horrified by the real life actions of a mother. Reading this story brought that back to me. The author wrote from inside the mind of victim and perpetrator. It was interesting to me. The story was all the more terrifying by the fact that the author kept things fairly real. Then came the twist. Wow! I did not see that coming. The ending was left a bit open and I am hoping for a part two to this book. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.
