Resolution Pact

Resolution: Road Trip

Rate this book
I was stuck in a dead-end job, with a creep of a boss and in the midst of a quarter-life crisis. So, when members of my former sorority initiated a resolution pact for the new year, I jumped right on that.

My resolution was to break out of the shackles of my boring and safe life and do something bold and daring. But I had no idea how to do that…until he came along.

As luck would have it, Nathaniel Leeds, a brilliant research scientist, was looking for a temporary assistant to help him collect and document data. The job itself didn’t sound all that exciting until I learned that it would involve a road trip.

And then I met my new boss.
And Lord help me, my handsome, Brainiac boss made me hotter than the jungles of Costa Rica.

If I can survive this road trip with my heart intact, I’m resolving never to make another resolution for as long as I live.

Super cute and sexy short read! Cute story about a woman who makes a New Year's resolution to be more bold. And who doesn't love a hottie nerd? Definitely a nice read to pick up on a Saturday afternoon if you are looking for something short and sweet with a little heat and sexiness mixed in.

Resolution: Road Trip by Sierra Hill a five-star read that will make you hot. This was sweet and stormy, when you have the courage to quit a job you hate would you be able to push your courage further and go to a far away place with a man who is kind of a jerk? The heat in the rainforest and jungles of Costa Rica have nothing on the heat in this story. This whole collection of Resolution Pact stories has been great, I can’t wait to read more.

A cute romance filled with flirtatious fun and a sexy night in the rain! I loved the heat between Marin and Nathaniel and wanted more. Maybe a novel set in future?

Really though you will love this sweet novella and will see what I mean about wanting more! I didn’t want this story to end but it was the perfect ending!

3.7 this is not your traditional professor/student romance we’re changing it to a bit with a professor/assistant instead. If you’re looking for a quick, fast paced story you can mock out on a break then pick up this book. The chemistry between these two is there from the very beginning without a doubt. I felt the ending was a bit rushed but overall a good read.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This book is part of the Resolutions series written by a variety of authors. In this book Marin needs a job and when one of her sorority sisters tells her she got her an interview as a research assistant for her cousin, Marin thinks it could be what she is looking for. Marin meets Nathaniel and thinks he is handsome, but he is a bit of a jerk. Nathaniel is a playboy and thinks he can have any woman he wants. He sees Marin and thinks she is beautiful, but he doesn't want to be with her because she works for him. As they work well together, Nathaniel is less of a jerk and the more Marin is attracted to him. In Costa Rica, they grow closer and soon they act on things. I really liked this story. I liked that Marin was willing to go on an adventure without really knowing much about the job. Nathaniel enjoyed teasing her and they had great chemistry. Good one.

4 ½ stars. This is a very short but still fun and sexy read. I really enjoyed it. On NY Eve, Marin decides she needs a complete change in her life. She has just quit her job very recently and decides this is the year for her to step out of her comfort zone. And step out she does all the way to Costa Rica, when she accepts a job with the sexy and charismatic scientist Nathaniel, as his research assistant. Nathaniel initially appears to be a pompous jerk, but looks as we know can be very deceiving. They work together well and they clearly have intense sexual chemistry, but can/will they act on it given he is her boss? What happens if they do? This is a great quickie from Sierra Hill complete with an HEA that will leave you satisfied!!

I want to call it a sweet story...but not exactly...a cute story? Maybe. A bit of steam, some funny moments and an insta love romance makes this short story fun to read. Sometimes the best resolutions are the ones you never really make. Adventure in the new year - check...love? Maybe.

I know I've said this before but I love these stories. Marin needs a better job, something with some adventure. Nathaniel needs a research assistant but his grouchy temperament can be off putting. They work well together but get under each other's skin & the sexual tension can be cut with a knife. One stormy night in The jungles of Costa Rica & all bets are off. Great HFN read

A Resolution Pact Short Story - These are a collaboration of authors bringing us short, sweet, sexy stories to give us Oooh's and Ahh's that make our hearts & panties melt in celebration of the New Year. I'm in love with these short story collaborations & am excited each time a new set is released.

Excellent story but so short.
I loved the characters of this news that belongs to a group with the same base: girls or young women who belong or belonged to a sorority, receive for the New Year's Day, the advice of the current President who tell them to enjoy and dare.
In this one, the heroin Marin quits her job when her boss asks her to change the numbers of his company profits. She can't find another job, so, one of her friends the directs her to one of her cousins who is a scientist, a little playboy on the edges. He is extremely grumpy, unpleasant and attractive.
The attraction of the two characters with their strong character was fascinating to read, it is just a shame that it is only a novel.

Road Trip

3.5
Marin’s new year resolution this year is to be more daring. Since she just quit her job, she’s hoping to find something out of her comfort zone. Enter Nathaniel..... sexy, confident, professor looking Nathaniel. He needs an assistant to travel with him for his scientific research and Marin is the person for the job. Can they withhold from the sexual tension between them or will this trip to Costa Rica be the trip that changes their lives forever?

-safe read
-no talk about h sexual history
-H is considered a playboy
-no om/ow drama
-okay epilogue (3 month out). Wanted more of their future.

This was a great short story. Marin makes a resolution to be bold and daring. She hates her job and her boss and when he asks her to cook the books she quits. She accepts a research coordinator job with gorgeous scientific researcher Nathaniel Leeds that takes the to central America. Once there the jungle isn't the only thing steaming hot!

This story is short and sweet, has more or less everything needed for such a story to get four stars. I am a firm believer that the shorter the story the trickier it is to write it as there is no space for idle sentences. There is a storyline, background info and good characters. So all in all I can just hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did.

A great little read I just loved that Marin and Nathan tried to ignore the chemistry between them and keep it professional but damn these two are hot together this is a super addition to the multi-author series and I would recommend it so good.

Nathaniel is older, a play@, a researcher looking for an assistant and he doesn’t want to hire the younger 25 yo Marin.
Because he knows he’ll sleep with her.

He’s kind of a jerk, honestly.
I think this is geared towards New adults.

For such a short story, it sure packs a lot of heat! Marin instantly feels a connection to Nathaniel, the sexy playboy brainiac, who ends up being her boss. Wanting to be more bold and daring, she travels with him to Costa Rica where Nathaniel realizes maybe his connection to her isn't just lust? If your looking for a quick steamy read look no further...this is the one for you!

Needs an editor or six

You know that a book has problems when you’re reading it you can’t help but notice all of the various punctuation faults, wrong words, and pedestrian language. This book needed a competent copy editor stat. While it was at it a decent line editor wouldn’t have been amiss. And since those two are coming to the table, they might as well bring a sensitivity with them while they’re at it. And I’m not even going to get into the pacing problems. Oh who am I kidding, I totally am.

Let’s break it down, shall we? Copy editing that’s easy. The book needed it I counted at one point multiple punctuation errors on a single page and at least five missing/wrong words in a 50 page story. While I generally allow for one error every 10 pages in an indie published book, with all of the Punctuation errors I couldn’t ignore it. The errors were distracting. So the book loses a star there.

Line editing. Honestly the prose was boring. Too many weak verbs too many adverbs modifying those weak verbs. And often times the sentences were confusing.

Sensitivity editing, oh boy howdy, so much dubious consent. And the elephant in the room of the fact that the main male lead is the female lead’s boss Is never actually addressed. The author also really needed someone of Latino or Hispanic heritage To edit this work because Google translate and Wikipedia is not a viable alternative I’m just saying.

Finally the story had a pacing problem. The main male lead doesn’t show up until 18% of the way through the story. That is much too late. Everything that happens once he shows up moves way too quickly. Which causes a number of problems going back to the whole sensitivity issue. From the interview which is hyper unrealistic. To the fact that he’s going through her luggage and fondling her underwear in front of an airport full of people. To honestly the sex scene we never did find out what happened to her tent. It literally would have taken a line to fix and the fact that it wasn’t fixed is a problem. The ending left me feeling with a giant “wait what?”

The only reason why this isn’t getting one star is because I actually finished the story. But it was a near thing.

Two stars.

It is such a shame, but I just didn’t enjoy this. I’m not even sure why not, I just felt bored throughout. I didn’t pick up on the chemistry between Marin and Nathanial, and for a short book, I thought it dragged.
The characters didn’t have much about them to get you invested in their lives. Marin was quite dull, plain and uninteresting. She didn’t offer much of a personality and Nathanial was just a sleazy boss. Marin was acting very unprofessional when they first arrived in Costa Rica, and it was winding me up. I know her New Year’s resolution was to throw everything to the wind, but at that point surely she would have wanted to impress her new boss in more than just one way?
The only thing I did enjoy about the book was the ending; it wasn’t cliched. It had a unique and unrushed ending. It was different and didn’t end with babies and marriage but still had the required happy ever after.
I have enjoyed all of Sierra Hill’s books up until now, so I was looking forward to this one, but for me, it just fell short of having her usual sparkle. I’m giving it three stars for the ending and for the fact that I think it was just me not feeling it with this book, as there was nothing particularly wrong with it. Maybe I was just in the wrong frame of mind!?
