A travel writing convention has brought writers, bloggers, and vloggers to cozy Emerson Falls. But for one of the writers, this trip will be his last. Emerson Falls couldn’t be more a cozy town tucked into a bend of the Skagit River, up in the northern part of Washington state, near an area known as the American Alps. With the stunning new convention center downstairs in the town’s mansion-turned-library, it seems like the perfect place for a travel writing convention. But the fun has barely begun when one of the star writers is found dead. Megan Montaigne, Library Director and would-be forensics investigator, jumps into action. Living in the apartment on the library’s top floor puts her in the center of all the activities. She is immediately on the case to help Deputy Max Coleman bring resolution and tranquility to their town once again. Evocative descriptions of the Skagit River region will have readers planning their own visits to the region. The immersive setting, combined with compelling characters readers want to get to know, drives A Conventional Murder, the second Megan Montaigne mystery. The story is a blend of the traditional and cozy mystery genres with added depth and heart. The Megan Montaigne mysteries are standalone mysteries and may be read in any order.
It was a pleasure to read the vivid descriptions the author crafted into this book. The characters and plot are well defined and interesting. I rarely rate a book with five stars but this one did. Enjoy!
This was almost a Did Not Finish. This is my kind of mystery, just not a very good one. The writing was rather clunky, and there were way too many things about the book that just were not very believable, little things and bigger ones. I found myself thinking several times, "I could be spending my time reading something much better than this." I did want to find out whodunit... and then it turned out to be the MOST OBVIOUS suspect. Maybe that was the cleverest thing about it---a reader would never expect the killer to be the most obvious suspect!
Very pleasant, but not particularly gripping, read. Better than the first (Final Chapter), with a bit more humor, a wee bit more 'heart'. Excellent for what it is, a pleasant diversion - not great literature, not a twisty puzzle to keep you guessing, but a quite nice diversion when you want a comfortable, not particularly challenging read.
This is the first Megan Montaigne mystery I've read, and it won't be the last! The story was interesting and the characters were well developed. I highly recommend it to other mystery readers.
I read book two also just didn't do review, that one is also a 5 star. Great mysteries, twists and turns. The main characters jump of the page they are so well written. I hope you write some more fictional mysteries. You have a knack for them Pam.
Love the descriptive nature scenes, interesting characters & plot twists. Stucky's protagonists feel like old friends. Love this series that takes place in Northern Washington State.
A travel convention at the library and before it really gets going there is a murder Megan does her utmost to try and solve it But then there is another! Good story line
I thought the storyline was good...location choice was wonderful and so were the characters...a lot of excitement and a fast story full of twists...enjoy❤️
