My son and I loved this book. Max is definitely a funny kid! Matt Stanton knows how to entertain both children and their parents, with his witty stories.

Door een situatie in het vorige deel moeten Max en zijn vrienden meedoen aan de ijshockeywedstrijd. Zij moeten een team vormen en spelen tegen het plaatselijke ijshockeyteam. Wanneer ze op de baan zijn, komen ze een wel heel bekend persoon tegen…

Max staat graag in de schijnwerpers, maar niet op een podium. Als hij op het ijs staat, trekt hij ook weer alle aandacht naar zich toe. Meestal gaat er iets fout en moet hij dat later weer recht zetten. Dit deel gaat over volhouden, blijven proberen, vriendschap en in jezelf geloven.

Zoals in alle delen is Bibi Nobel weer de slimste en weet alle situaties weer te redden. Ook de andere personages die we kennen uit de eerdere delen komen terug. Ieder heeft zijn eigen rol in de groep en heeft zijn plus- en minpunten.

Deze serie is echt voor kinderen die van grapjes houden. Maar wie houdt daar nou niet van? Hugo heeft weer hele slimme opmerkingen, Eend zegt vaak Kwaak en Bibi Nobel weet alles beter. Kinderen zouden zichzelf of anderen kunnen herkennen in de personages en dat maakt het leuk. Daarnaast zijn de illustraties echt een goede toevoeging aan het verhaal.

De boeken gaan over de 11-jarige Max Modderman, maar de boeken zijn al eerder te lezen. Zelf lezen vanaf ongeveer 9 jaar, voorlezen kan al vanaf 8 jaar. Dit deel heeft weer een prachtig leeslint en ik kreeg er ook een speldje bij met Max!

Calling a series 'Funny Kid' before the reviews are in is a gamble, however this entry in the series is indeed funny. At least my nine year old boy seems to think so. Max has some bad history with his teacher Mr Armstrong (read some of the earlier novels) and ends up being drafted into an ice hockey team. The new coach? You guessed it! Mr Armstrong. Aaaargh! That and the fact that Max and his team mates don't have the first clue about ice hockey, or even skating for that matter, makes for a pretty hilarious audiobook. As a family we hop in the car and within a minute or two we get a request from the backseat to listen to 'Max' again. No better recommendation possible I would think.
