Jane spends a lot of time in hospital; more time than out of it. The nurses love her. The doctors adore her. The patients think she is wonderful. She is a sick girl filled with hope and enthusiasm... on the outside. All she wants is to learn to drive- to be a typical teen- to fall in love.
When Jane gets an unexpected message it changes her life, but more unlikely... it changes her death.
"She (Nicci) shines in crafting novels that toe the line between dark and dangerous, and sweet and sexy, which culminates into a deliciously sinful story of passion, truth, and acceptance." - Jessica @jessicareadsit
I found Nicci Harris’ BRB an interesting book in large portion due to the fact that it utilized text exchanges as its main method of dialogue between the characters. This not only captured the feel of the current generation but also made the characters seem more believable and real.
Nicci Harris uses the premise of the text message sent to the wrong person as the foundation of her book and this contributes significantly to how believable the main characters are. In particular I found I could relate to Jane’s predicament in receiving the text in error and enjoyed how this was positioned in relation to her own situation. This allowed us to compare the situations of the two characters and pass judgement on their actions.
While I loved how the book was written I will admit that I was a little disappointed in how it concluded. It didn’t really seem like a stand-alone novel, it felt more like an introduction and in my opinion it suffered for this fact. I would have loved for it to be extended and if not a resolution in the conclusion, at least a cliff hanger to keep me interested for the next part of the series. As an introduction I really enjoyed this book and think that teens would love to see their lives captured so realistically.
Brb was an interesting read. I didn't like how it ended but I guess that's because it's only part one. The dialogue was clever, realistic, and easy to read. This book is unique because most of the interactions are through text but the story still flows.
The characters are likable. You know which pov you are reading purely by the tone. Overall, I liked it alot but would like to see it as a stand alone novel, and not delivered in parts.
