A one night stand at Bali, Indonesia, with a beautiful guy turns into a whole week! Nonstop!
No names, nothing. With pain in his heart, Spencer leaves knowing this is what the man wants.

Back in Malibu Toby gets back to work, writing and making music together with Reese (Book#1)

Spencer is a psychotherapist, the week vacation was to clear his head, but his head has never been fuller. Now back in LA, he can’t stop thinking about Toby. Then he understands who Toby is and understands there is a chance, an event to meet him again.

Toby thinks he’s damaged good, and Spencer should stay away. But the music and dance world ánd the typhoon Toby pulls Spencer closer.

There is a lot of turbulence in their relationship. Toby has destructive thoughts and has a lot to overcome.

“You’ll weather this storm with me?” “And every one to come.”

Wow, this story was a lot heavier than Reese his story. But still, it had all the sparkles.
This was a beautifully layered story with the most endearing vulnerable characters.
All aspects were decently developed and enjoyable to experience.
Quite a varied story, with height and depth lows. But sparkling.
The dear friends completed this all into a great narrative.

I fell in love with Hurricane Reese and I'm back in love in this series with this book. There are very serious TRIGGERS in this book. Abuse, rape, suicide attempts, etc. This book is just amazing but please be so careful if any of this is a problem with you.
In the first book, we get to meet Toby. Best friend and partner to Reese. Cocky S.O.B. But there was always something lurking underneath with Toby. He was always there for Reese. Always has been. In his way. And in this book, there's a whole different side to Toby. And that cocky attitude? All a front. And my heart ached for him. I was so excited to see how much his vacation got to him. Someone was getting through under that hard shell he wrapped around his heart. And who more perfect than a therapist?
Actually, Spencer is perfect for Toby. With all Toby has been through, he needs someone who is patient, understanding and knows when to back off. Anyone who has trauma, PTSD, or something else, they need time to process it and deal with it. If they ever do. Some people can't. For a long time, Toby couldn't. He buried himself in work, drugs, alcohol, men. Whatever he could do to still the thoughts. He wrote in his books. Songs, poems, whatever. But the more he got involved with Spencer, the more he wanted to better himself. Which meant he had to get help. He had to stop burying what happened to him. And Spencer was perfect through it all. For him anyway. He never pushed. Well, he did one time but it was necessary. Very much so. He listened. He didn't judge. He let Toby be who he needed to be and deal how he needed to. And it was hard as hell some days. But Spencer never gave up. And Toby finally had someone in his life who loved him. Scars and all. But Toby had to make up his mind if he could continue to face his past or cave and let it wash him away.
When you see someone you love hurting, you want to do everything you can to fix it. And sometimes our way of fixing things is dead wrong. Sometimes we have to push a little, but everyone has a way of dealing with what they have to deal with. It may not always be 'right’, but maybe it's right for them. For us, like Spencer, we have to be patient. We have to keep our mouths shut and just let them know we are willing to listen and be there when they are ready. As hard as that may be. And for Spencer it was hard. We all want to take the pain away. Go beat the hell out of whoever hurt our loved ones. But we can't.
I love this book. For Toby, with Spencer he found something he hadn't had in a long time. Hope. And love. He found someone who believed in him. Someone who he could just be with. And for Toby, that was the world.

This book was definitely a whirlwind, but it was also refreshing and the best kind of hurt/comfort.

Toby is a genius. He started college at 16 and grew up fast. Relying on his advisor, he trusted where he shouldn't have and ended up very emotionally and physically scarred. He just wants to block out the past and move forward, the more nameless the hookup the better. But when he takes a well needed vacation in Bali, he finds that after spending a week with the same man, he feels lost when they part.

Spencer is a therapist and an advocate for LGBT+ youth. He own his own practice with his friend and he's been working himself too hard. When he leaves Toby after a week in Bali, he can't get him out of his head. And when he sees him on TV promoting his new show, he realizes he can't miss an opportunity to see him again.

I'll be honest, I didn't really get into this story until about halfway, but then I was consumed. Toby started out a reckless, lost and frankly annoying character who finally realized that in order to get past his pain, he had to confront it. It was honestly very gratifying to see Toby take the steps to becoming whole. I had to give him credit for his maturity and willingness to 'fix' himself in an effort to have a relationship with Spencer.

At first Spencer annoyed me as well because he acted so victimized and small, but with the promise of love from Toby, he too became more confident and less guarded. Once they found a place where they were grounded the story was so tender and raw.

I really enjoyed all of the friends in this story and their drama as well. It's fun to see the beginnings of other stories building up in the background to keep the series moving.

The last half of this was done so well. There were so many triggers for Toby that he was able to weather with Spencer at his side and I really felt the relationship as it morphed into a tangible feeling of love. This was definitely a book that I'm thrilled to have read and I'm excited to see the next story, hopefully with Javier.

This novel is aptly named. Toby is indeed a force of nature, a tempestuous character who could wreck havoc to everybody and everything he gets in contact with. He certainly turned Spencer’s life upside down. And Reese’s before him.

It was very clear early on the personalities of the main characters. Toby is the storm, Spencer is the port: steady and calm; maybe physically weak but mentally strong, especially at the second half. It’s a great pairing. Spencer needed to be needed and Toby needed to be taken care of.

Typhoon Toby is full of heightened emotions, sometimes even violent ones. It’s a reminder that love is neither tidy nor clean. Just like the book, it’s messy, sexy, never boring. There were quiet moments too that helped balance all the angst. I also appreciate the music, dance, and friendships that enlivened the book.

It’s not an easy read with topics of sexual abuse, drugs, and suicide highlighted. R.L. treated them with sensitivity but some readers might be triggered.

Typhoon Toby can stand on its own, but in my opinion, it’s best to read the Teacher trilogy with Jesse and Danny and Hurricane Reese first to have a richer reading experience.

Thanks to the author for providing me with an advance copy to review.

4/5 In almost every way, this was a harder read than Hurricane Reese, but I was much more engaged with the characters and found it much more satisfying. It deals with very serious themes including grooming, assault, self-harm, and attempted suicide. But it’s also inherently honest. Toby is very good at recognising his faults, and this made him way more approachable for me than Reese was in book 1. (Toby is terrible about recognising his strengths, but that’s what his eventual therapy is for.)

There is a lot of communication in this book, even though there are some misunderstandings. There are connections even when Toby wishes he wasn’t making them, a good friend group, and people being there for one another when they need it. Toby’s dealing with a lot of trauma, but he’s actively working on his mental health through most of the book, and Spencer is a thoughtful, understanding partner. They both have quirks and strengths and weaknesses, and they make one another better.

Despite the sometimes very heavy topics, I was hopeful and happy by the end of the book.

I received an ARC from GRR. This is my honest review.

**What happens when you meet the right person at the wrong time?**

I loved this book! Toby has been (wisely) avoiding love given trauma in his past and has resigned himself to the idea that true intimacy isn't for him. He meets Spencer on a tropical vacation and, though he feels a deep connection to Spencer, sticks with his plan to let it go. A bit of a shaky plan for Toby, who is mildly famous (which allows Spencer to find him by happenstance). Spencer couldn't forget him either. This book is mainly about Toby giving a real relationship a try.

It's hard to say more without spoilers, so I'll just say this is a great hurt/comfort love story that goes deep emotionally. R.L. Merrill always delivers real chemistry, real loyalty and all the feels. I also loved the connection to Reese's story (from the first book in the story "Hurricane Reese"), though this
story totally works as a standalone. Great read!

I really enjoyed the first book in this series. This book... Oh my goodness... R.L. Merrill knocked this one out of the park. I'm tearing up while writing this. The scene I love it when a book can pull real emotion out! I can't wait for the next book.

I haven't read her other series, Teacher (A Hollywood Rock n' Romance Trilogy, #1) by R.L. Merrill , Teacher Act Two (A Hollywood Rock n' Romance Trilogy, #2) by R.L. Merrill , Teacher The Final Act (A Hollywood Rock n' Romance Trilogy, #3) by R.L. Merrill but the characters were in this book. Totally made me want to seek them out to read. YAY!

Spencer Hart’s life changed with a trip to the Spartan All Male Resort in Bali.
He’s a psychotherapist, writing a book and researching about gay teens and the alarming rate of suicide. This vacation was suppose to help him unwind. Then he met a “no name” someone. Returning to LA had him delaying his return to his practice with his friend Javier. A virus, severe asthma and pneumonia has him laid up with memories of the secretive man. Spencer is an introvert, shy, pensive and loves working with kids. He has a small group of friends who he cares about: Javier, Charlie Willoughby and Richard Dahl.

Tobias Griffith has a great friend in Reese Matheson. They collaborate on music and have many music hits and shows, even earning a Tony. Reese is pining for Jude De La Torre, and to make things right he’s rooming with Tobias. Tobias has his own issues that steamed from abuse as a young teenager. He’s never found a way to deal with his trauma. Having hook ups seems to be the way to solve his problem. He never accounts for what he has accomplished and has the mind frame that he ruins lives and “is not good enough.”

All Spencer wants is to get well and he still has hopes to maybe see the stranger “Tobias” again. Spencer had snuck a look at the “no name” mans ID. While recuperating and watching TV he sees Tobias with Reese Matheson. When they mention the GLSEN organization and Jesse Martin, he reaches out to his friend Charlie. When Charlie calls Jesse (Martin) Black, they get invited to GLSEN fundraiser that benefits children at Danny Blacks home. At the fundraiser, Spencer is introduced to Tobias, things don’t go so well. Spencer has a serious asthma attack and anxiety to go along with it. After the fundraiser they reconnect, but things don’t always go well.

Toby has a dark past and he’s never really found a way to deal with it. Besides his PTSD there’s an animosity that he has for Spencer’s profession as a psychotherapist.
Even though he’s drawn to Spencer he finds ways to hurt him. Will Toby be able to face his past? With all of Spencers’s understanding and patience, will he be able to give Tobias the time and love that he needs?

R.L. Merrill creates a semi-dark theme with the second installment in the “Forces of Nature” series. “Typhoon Toby” is an emotional story with Toby never having found a way to deal with abuse from his past. It was implanted in his mind that what he experienced was the way life worked. Alcohol and other activities were part of his issues too. He does find a way to have a better life, but it’s still a struggle for him. One bright spot to Toby was he loved music, it seems that was when he was most happy.
Spencer was a good man, he stayed by Toby’s side. He never judged him and always tried to support and love him.

One thing the author does in this story and throughout the series is bring nostalgia with a lot of “famous name dropping” and music nostalgia: Isaac Hayes, James Brown, Prince, Funk and R&B and more.
I highly recommend “Typhoon Toby” at times it’s a rollercoaster of emotions, with flashbacks. The story also picks up with Reese Matheson’s troubles. I suggest starting with “Hurricane Reese” the first novel in the “Forces of Nature” series. R.L. Merrill is up with the next storm “Hurricane Ethan”.

It wasn’t that bad but I didn’t like it that much.
Half of the book is about the drama that was happening between the couples from the 1st book and the in the next one. Skipping both of them. Javier and Richard together doesn’t make any sense.

Toby .. He’s such an ass, he humiliated and broke many guys hearts and was so proud just because he was angry.
I didn’t really get what he’s doing for a living. He’s a songwriter, then a drummer, a few chapters later he’s a singer and plays guitar. By the end, they said it was Reese who wrote all the songs…
I didn’t really feel his struggle with the big trauma that happened to him years ago and he went from “ I can’t talk about it to anyone” to “ let’s shout from the rooftops and let anyone know, I don’t care “ after one session with a therapist.
After his broke down he couldn’t be intimate with Spencer because of the sexual abuse when he was very young but he was very fine after like 2 days.
He should’ve end up with his bff and partner Reese (from book 1) they’re much alike and both are annoying and bastards (Poor Jude haha)
Spencer.. I liked him a lot, I think he’s the best thing in this book but he did something that bothered me and it’s not him. He’s a very good therapist and care a lot about his clients, he run to them at the slightest problem but after getting involved with Toby he almost let down a client just to have sex and twice!! I was disappointed in him but he’s too sweet to dislike him.
He deserved better than Toby, someone like Julian the sexy “straight” dancer who was into him. The relationship was one sided: when they talk about their future, the only thing Toby is happy about is owning Spencer’s ass and all the sex they’ll have. He’ll ditch him when get he gets bored like he did with all his previous lovers.

It ended abruptly with a not solid HFN, so many questions and unresolved things. Toby has broken his arm, he can’t do the show with Reese, he wanted to move on anyway and do something by himself for himself but we didn’t know how they handled the show, if Toby moved on or not except for he wrote a book in a month and we get a sampler in the epilogue. We don’t know if he’s doing better, if he totally opened up and gave himself to Spencer ( and accept to try and bottom after all those years ) what happened to grandpa..

I don’t recommend.

Forces of Nature:
Hurricane Reese
Typhoon Toby
Earthquake Ethan
By R.L. Merrill
Published by Celie Bay Publications, 2018-2024
Four stars

I loved this trilogy of stories, each involving a single character whose romantic drama overlaps with the stories of the other two—and all of them revolve around the creation of a musical stage show called “The Boy on the Corner.” The metaphoric forces of nature of the titles are part of the story, and tag each main character like a personal insignium.

This is a very Hollywood-centric trilogy, focused on young men (two gay, one pansexual) who have devoted their lives to song, dance, and drama. Reese Matheson is a Tony-winning pop star, Toby Griffiths is his co-writer and longtime best friend; while Ethan Bradley is the pretty boy who accidentally cause a massive mess in London because of a few photos in the tabloid press.

Each of these stories is quite different from the others—because these men are quite dissimilar, and have specific problems that are connected but not congruent to those of their friends. Reese has his beloved grandfather—himself a famous “Rat Pack” pianist, slowly succumbing to dementia. Toby has a horrific past episode of abuse about which none of his friends know; and Ethan has gone from stardom to near-homelessness thanks to his naivete in tangling with the British paparazzi.

Each character—and the love interest assigned to them (Jude, a healthcare worker; Spencer, a psychotherapist; and Arthur a successful talent manager)—tells his personal story as the narrative churns forward to the emotional climax we all want. The author does it very well, getting us to like these men without letting them off the hook entirely. They are not flawless angels, but they are not “just” victims, either. Their emotional complexity and interesting personalities draw you into their messy lives.

This is not just about romantic love between three pairs of men; it’s about broader circles of friendship and family love that bind disparate characters together.

This novel has a lot going for it. Besides steamy scenes and swoon inducing romance, there’s some deep darkness and trauma. There’s also great humor and sharp dialogue. Overall it’s an enjoyable read that will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride!

Toby was a brilliant kid who went to college at sixteen. Harshness in the world forced him to grow up fast, and he’s never truly admitted to himself he was abused. The betrayals he suffered at a young age have led him to build up a protective armor and never let anyone close again.

Spencer is a therapist and advocate for LGBT youth who treats himself to a much needed vacation. He picked this specific resort in Bali based on its reputation, making an attempt to get out of his shell and experience more of life (and men!)

When the two meet in that tropical paradise they keep it casual (and sexy.) But when they part ways, neither can fully get over the experience.

As fate tends to do, she brings these two back together on their home turf. This rocks both their worlds in many difference, sometimes difficult to handle ways.

This is a story about love, though not in a straightforward way. It’s about how different types of love manifest in our lives: romantic, sexual, platonic, familial. It’s about how love doesn’t always look like a fairy tale and isn’t always fun. It’s also about learning how to be loved when experiences in our past have caused us to believe we’re unworthy of it.

There are a lot of characters to keep track of in this story, so be mindful of that. It also gets graphic at times, covering some pretty heavy subjects. Ultimately it’s a hopeful tale that will resonate with readers of romance and LGBTQ+ issues.

Many thanks to Reedsy Discovery for my copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Author R.L. Merrill has been one of my go-to authors for awhile now, and this book is no exception. Most times, I don't need to read the synopsis, I just know that it will be good! This book was a well written, respectful book by one of my favorite authors. This is not my go-to genre but when author R.L. Merrill writes it I know that I have to read it. She writes good stories, real stories, emotional stories that stay with the reader long after they have finished reading the books.

This book gives us Toby and Spencer and shows us how two people that are meant to be together will find a way to make it work because that is how love works. The reader can't help but root for the characters as they zoom through the pages of the book. The reader wants to know how the story ends while at the same time not wanting it to end. It's one of those catch-22's.

This book has a fast moving plot, lots of emotion and lot's of steamy love. Be prepared to not want to do anything else once you sit down to start reading this one - it will NOT let you go! Also, just a warning that you may suffer a book hangover that could last weeks...Be warned, be prepared, but be assured it is going to instantly become one of your favorite reads so far this year!

🌴A Bali 🌅 hook-up that won't let go😉

This MM romance had oodles of angst, steam and even some song and dance. It also focuses attention on teen suicide and abuse by trusted authority figures. Toby's seen them both and barely lived to tell the tale. This is a man riddled with deep-seated pain and feelings of low self worth who cuts the very idea of romance from his life. He's successful career-wise and a close collaborator with Reese, the hero of the first Forces of Nature book, but identifies himself with the destructiveness of a typhoon, a man who's dangerous to get close to. Even Spencer, a guy with whom he shares a passionate week in Bali, has trouble tempting him to take a chance on a romantic relationship.

I totally took to the plot and its gradual reveal of the source of Toby's trauma. The angst, emotion and self-destructive coping mechanisms felt real and Spencer is such a supportive guy that their story felt hard-fought and well-deserving of its HEA. I did find Spencer's surprise transition from a very frail convalescing therapist to an amazingly competent stage dancer puzzling, but overall I found their story touching and inspirational.

Although this book could be read on its own, I think it best to read after Reese and Jude's story. The two plots intertwine and some of the plot unfolds simultaneously but from a different perspective.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

After reading Hurricane Reese, I just had to know Toby’s story. This book was not at all what I expected, in a good way. Toby is a charmer and doesn’t appear to take life too seriously. But it turns out, life hasn’t been kind to Toby and he uses his charming personality and playboy persona to mask a lot of pain. On vacation he has a fling with a man he never expects to see again, but can’t get out of his head. When he runs into Spencer again, Toby is torn between wanting more of the shy man who rocked his world, and avoiding a relationship. Thankfully, he gives in and discovers that Spencer Hart turns out to be the best thing that ever happened to him.

Toby has a lot of trauma to deal with and Spencer is perfect for him. Spencer is determined to stick by Toby’s side even when he pushes him away. Spencer encourages Toby to communicate but never forces him to reveal more than he can handle. Spencer has his own issues with social anxiety, but he is a force to be reckoned with when Toby needs his strength. But Toby is also there to support Spencer and to fight past his own demons so he can take back his life and have the relationship they both deserve.

Typhoon Toby is a fantastic story that I just couldn’t put down. I hope R.L. Merrill has plans for Spencer’s best friends. I want to know Charlie’s story, and whether Javier and Richard get their HEA.

This book follows our ever charming, cocky best friend Toby who has so many layers in his personality.

T/W - There are scenes involving abuse, rape, attempted suicide. Please consider this before reading the book.

I loved Toby as a character so much. He had enough on his plate, but he was always there for Reese when he needed him. And the discussions about PTSD, his past and the way Toby kept himself wrapped in a shell, was done really well. I loved Spencer for Toby and they were a perfect couple to be honest. Spencer knew when to talk and when to give space (I mean he's a therapist who knew how to separate his professional opinion from his personal one wrt Toby) and I loved that. There were a lot of moments Toby felt like giving up, but Spencer held on and it was so heartbreakingly beautiful and sad at the same time. The way they meet and the way the book ended were so drastic, you get to see the best character arc ever in a book! I loved these two so much and I wish we got more Spencer pov regarding Toby and how he felt. Bur this book gives you hope and love and that was the one thing Toby needed in his life!

From a steamy no-names one-night stand in Bali, to a beautiful relationship that can weather any storm.

Toby and Spencer were never supposed to see each other again. They especially weren’t prepared for their lives to become so intertwined.

Spencer is a wonderful human, who is equal parts patient and kind. When he discovers Toby’s identity, he’s willing to face his social anxiety to see if there could be something more. This man frequently makes himself vulnerable to prove to Toby that he can be counted on, and it is quite beautiful.

Toby is dealing with a lot. A LOT. This beautiful messy human being needs a special kind of man to weather him. Trauma and coping mechanisms he’s never really dealt with, he’s always figured it’s best to stay emotionally distant from lovers. He’s the kind of guy who is an amazing friend, but never expects it in return.

“You’ll weather this storm with me?” “And every one to come.”

These two together experience a lot of push and pull in their relationship. It’s emotional but it’s also bright and warm. They both had a beautiful arc of self-discovery and healing.

I got drawn into this story immediately and invested in the characters. I loved that both Toby and Spencer had issues to work through, and they aren’t an easy fix. The supporting cast are wonderful. I loved the friendships, and how they had to work at those too.

I love how Toby is determined not to have a relationship ever again, and how Spencer gets through those barriers. They have so many connections it feels like fate. I thought that Toby’s rocky road with his mental health issue felt realistic, especially when he’s confronted by his past when he least expects it. Spencer’s such a good guy. I liked how he has his own issues with his social anxiety and asthma.

Music plays a huge part in the story, which is something I always enjoy. I liked the backdrop of Toby and Reese getting organised for their show and everything that goes into that. I loved Spencer’s circle of friends, who all need their HEAs now. Danny and Jesse are wonderful. I love how they’re there for Toby, no matter what.

I thought Toby and Reese’s friendship was realistic, and like how it evolves over time with both of their lives changing.

I love how Spencer accepts Toby for who he is, and what he’s been through, which is horrible. I liked that the author didn’t shy away from the consequences of Toby’s past.

When singer/songwriter Toby Griffiths and therapist Spencer Hart meet in Bali, the chemistry is off the charts. But they've both only agreed to an anonymous fling--no names exchanged-- so a return to the States means a return to their pre-vacation status: single and looking. But neither man can forget the electric connection of their Bali hookup and when they meet again, even that awkward start can't stop the attraction from intensifying. I was disappointed with Toby's character. He was quite unlikable in the beginning, though we understand all the reasons for the way he's been handling his trauma. And serendipitously, Spencer's job allows him to empathize with Toby's woundedness, though he, too, has baggage of his own. Their story is full of pain on both sides, and Toby's often irrational and impulsive behavior hurts the people he loves. It was difficult to see him in the role of a romantic lead because he's so broken, even though he comes to some measure of stability by the end. He's fortunate to have found someone as patient and loving as Spencer.

This is hard, I'm all about the funny and the weird when I review, it just seems to come out that way but this one......it deserves a serious not weird one so here you go.
Toby broke my heart, his image of himself, the damage that was done to him in the past, both by others and himself was heartbreaking .
I wanted to just hug him and tell him not to give up, every thing would be ok.
And Spencer, he never expected a Typhoon Toby to come blowing his whole world apart, but he handled it well.
Then to top it all off we got to see Jesse and Danny and even got to find out never before heard parts of their lives.
I can't even think of how to say this without sounding like a broken record but I absolutely loved this story. It's not just a LGBT story, it is a human story, and I adore these guys. My hope is that we get more in the future, please!

This is not a light, fluffy read. There are some tough topics handled in this book, although they are treated respectfully and written deeply and authentically, so be prepared for angst and emotions. Toby views himself as a disaster, pulling in and causing destruction to anyone who comes within range. Consequently, he tries to keep everyone at arm's length, and he has written off the possibility of love, or any close relationship with another person. Toby is volatile and Spencer is the opposite, the eye of the storm that is Toby. I really enjoyed seeing how these two orbited each other and ultimately came together. It’s not a neat and tidy love story, but rather something that feels very real with two flawed characters, albeit in different ways. This is an opposites attract, hurt/comfort romance that you’ll find rewarding.

Healing

Wow, this is an see inspiring book. There is so much going on and then that did not happen this would not be this good.

Spencer and Tony met on holiday. they wanted a holiday Romans with no names no regrets. None of them could forget that week in Bali.
By chance Spencer sees Toby on TV and decided he wanted to meet him. The meeting did not go as Spencer had hoped.
The emotional turmoil that Toby was going through even the feeling he had for Spencer took a back seat. There are triggers in this book. It was thoughtful and beautifully written.

Toby has a lot of issues with trust . Letting Spencer in.helped in the healing journey. Spencer showed him that no matter what he would be there for him.We also caught up with Reese and Jude.

Emotional tale.

First of all, this is not a traditional romance. It's a story about a group of friends finding love, and themselves in the meantime. Be aware that there are a number of triggers in this book, there's the questions of consent, coercion and manipulation. It's no wonder Toby is such a damaged character, his story truly broke my heart.

Despite this, is some hope for Toby, when he meets Spencer. This motivates Toby to find help, aided by Spencer. I loved how they grew together. This is a well written story, which is emotional, with twists and, despite the nature of Toby's story, there is some humour and sweetness present. I would recommend reading the previous book in the series also.

Star Trek tie, Testicle Fixation

Whew, this book put me through the emotional wringer! It is heartbreaking, yet heartwarming. It is steamy sexy, but a boner-killer. It is hilarious and sobering. It's a story of great contrasts and myriad emotions. What begins innocently, turns dark and troubling. What I'm saying is that this a helluva great book!

It covers sexual abuse and attempted suicides, so be mindful if these are your triggers. Reese from Hurricane Reese, Book 1, figures prominently in this tale. ALL the characters are well-written and well-crafted. The imagery is vividly painted and the plot flows evenly and well-paced. It is one of the better gay romance books I've read recently. It is enjoyable, engaging, and satisfying. I think you will enjoy it too.

Many lives are tossed about in storms, but yet we can prevail!

This book is an incredible testament to the drive for us as humans; not only to survive but to thrive. In a garden you have to break up and till the soil. Hoping that while in its slumber it has been rejuvenated to support the promise of new life. Love is often the same. Pain cause our heart to ache and time to heal. But those painful memories break up the soul and cause us to realize life and love, are seeds. That need to be nurtured to grow and bear lovely fruits that provide the fertile places where love can grow.

Toby is definitely a force of nature in this second installment of the “Forces of Nature” He and his best friend Reese had built an empire as a singer/songwriter. He had taken a vacation in Bali and had a vacation fling. He had a troubled past so insisted on no names. Spencer is a therapist and was broken hearted from a fling in Bali when he sees his nameless fling on the TV. I really enjoyed this story, but it was an emotional read. There are triggers in this story so be careful if they bother you. I am voluntarily leaving a review form an ARC that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.

We met Reese in the first book in this series and that book dealt with the serious issue of Alzheimers. Here, we meet Toby, Reese's partner and a man who has tried to put his life together after a very traumatic past. The damage and the cracks it left behind have only been papered over, however, and when Spencer confronts Toby and wants to build a real relationship with him, the facade crumbles. This is clearly a series that intends to continue to deal with problems realistically and not in a lighthearted way. The author has the skill to pull this off beautifully. This is a book you can sink your teeth into.

Typhoon Toby is a contemporary romance by R.L. Merrill. Ms. Merrill has provided readers with a well-written book populated with an outstanding cast of characters. This is a M/M romance though, so it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Toby is a musician that was sexually abused as a teen. Spencer is a therapist. Spencer and Toby meet at an island resort and have a week long fling. Their story is packed with drama, humor, spice and a boatload of angst. Typhoon Toby is book 2 of the Forces of Nature Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is the second book in this series and is equally as good as the first. You have to have read Hurricane Reese to make sense of some of the story line in this book.

Toby believes he is not worthy of love so only allows himself one night stands.
Spencer is a quiet man not used to putting himself first.
When Toby and Spencer meet in Bali on a gay singles holiday it was meant to be a one time thing, but almost a week later Spencer has to go home.
What should have stayed a holiday romance turns into much more when the men meet again.

I received this book from GRR
