Monk laid there, face up on the ground, wishing Jeremiah had come for him first. Wishing he had been scooped up and carried to the safety of the father’s presence. The sunlight had been shining directly into his eyes but the harsh rays were suddenly blocked by a long, dark shadow. The figure casting the shadow came closer and Monk made out the silhouette of the mask. It was the boy. The boy in the creepy mask was standing over him, looking down at the monkey in studied concentration. Jeremiah! Monk thought. Help!
