PUCKED by Helena Hunting - 1 star. DNF. Featured the type of "humor" that gets on my nerves, yet every other book friend enjoys so it might still work for you.


SHOPPING FOR A BILLIONAIRE 1 & 2 by Julia Kent -I DNF'd book one due to another humor issue, but didn't rate. I totally skipped book 2.


SOMETHING IN THE WAY by Jessica Hawkins - Read previously awhile ago, didn't remember enough to rate or comment on.


ONLY TRICK by Jewel E. Ann - 2 stars. This probably works more for someone less into heteronormative gender roles than myself. I don't want a man doing my makeup as my actual man. Also features amnesia as a plot point which book-buddies know is my #1 book peeve. I was able to finish despite all that, so that speaks to something positive in regards to the storytelling itself.


WRONG by Jana Aston - 3 stars. This was cute story featuring an older hero.

ESCORT by Skye Warren - 3 stars. I love Skye Warren in general. This is one I'd recommend for those put off by her darker books. This is much lighter than her normal fare.


ROUGH EDGE by CD Reiss - 3 stars. First book in a previously read, great series that gets better the farther you go.


CONSOLATION by Corinne Michaels - DNF, no rating. I'm not a fan of military widow storylines.

BEAUTY AND THE MUSTACHE by Penny Reid -Another DNF. The heroines mother was dying of cervical cancer, and I just lost my mother to cancer.

I’m reviewing Something in the Way - Jessica Hawkins

I don't even know where to start! I LOVE Jessica Hawkins and her books are always amazing, but this one was different. Good different nonetheless. Something in the Way is a story of forbidden love, coming of age and it hints at the beginning of a love triangle between two sisters and one man.

The story is first set in the 90's; 1993 to be exact.
Lake and Tiffany are sisters and they meet Manning on the same day. Even though Lake did meet him first, Tiffany takes interest in him right away. She does have an advantage to her sister Lake: she's 19 and Manning is 23. Lake is only 16 but even on that brief meeting they both recognize there's a connection between them. At first they don't know how to put it to words or even explain it, but Lake recognizes it instantly and develops a "crush" on him...or so Manning thinks. For Lake, this isn't a crush; her feelings for Manning are as real as they come. He does see her as a kid at first, but as they get to know each other -in a VERY careful way I may add- he realizes that he indeed could be developing real feelings for her.

Manning feels this pull towards Lake, but also notices her sister Tiffany's interest in him. Tiffany's feelings for Manning are not quite cemented though; she's more of a brat that wants to use Manning to piss off her dad. Even with all that, Manning & Tiffany start dating. Manning really just goes through the motions with Tiffany; he's not really THAT interested in her but at least being with her keeps him close to Lake. He knows nothing can develop between him & Lake due to their age difference, but that push & pull between them is really what keeps you glued to this page turner of a book until the end.

....and what an end it is.....Heartbreaking. Sad. But with a glint of hope.
This is Book 1 of a 3-part series. Just remember that :)

This Anthology is a romance lovers DREAM!!! It’s full of work created by some of my favorite authors, plus has a little bit of everything. For example, if you’re wanting a super angsty, coming-of-age story, then there’s Something in the Way by Jessica Hawkins!

This book. These characters. Everyone NEEDS to experience this beautiful story of innocence and forbidden love. And the angst between Lake and Manning?! Gah. This level of angst is nothing like I’ve experienced before. I was LIVING and DYING for it all at the same time! Something in the Way is one of those stories that will stay with me forever!

Or if you’re looking for a fun romantic comedy?! Then Wrong is PERFECT! Seriously. Just read the first few chapters and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. I’ve never laughed SO HARD during a book. It’s quirky, witty, hilarious. Extremely sexy. Sophie and Luke made me a Jana Aston fan!

Both of these books were excellent beginner books to amazing and thought provoking series. Ones that definitely kept me entertained, and gasping, while reading them.

I am not a huge anthology buyer/reader, but with this being FREE, I am most definitely going to be reading more of these books. Jewel E Ann is a favorite author of mine as well, so that's an obvious grab for me alone!! I love the idea of all these authors putting together a FREE anthology to introduce you to their writing and some of their favorite stories.

There are some authors you read regularly because they make you smile, or cry; some make you laugh or scare the crap out of you. Some make you ponder life's mysteries and some make you dream of other worlds and different times. Jessica Hawkins has become an author to me that transports me into the bodies of her characters. Male, female, hero, villain; their role doesn't matter. I feel like I become them, if only for the time I'm reading.

When I read a character written by Jessica Hawkins, the character is so well built and so well written that I'm seeing things and hearing things through that persons mind, body and soul. I'm trying to not wax philosophical here because it's a review after all; but each time I read a new release by Jessica, my love for her writing grows exponentially.

I'm a product of the time in which this book is set in, so maybe everything hits home a little more to me. I'm also a younger sister, so maybe I identify with Lake because of that similarity. But ultimately I think its just the way the story is written that draws you in and pulls at every string you have, and doesn't let go.

Manning is another male character by Jessica that moves to the top of my fave male characters list. Sometimes I want to scream and shout at him, and then I remember that he's trying to be a good, deserving person. He's constantly giving me butterflies and makes me feel like I'm losing my breath. I wanna go back to being 16 and meet my own Manning. Even if I have to wait to be with him.

This book is a slow burn, it's a 3 part series....which I'll be honest, kind of pisses me off. Only because I feel so invested and this urgency to know what happens. However, the burn is do excellently built and the fire so slowly stoked; that my mind is actually anticipating a little time torture until the next book is released!

This story is going to stick with me for a while, at least until May (please say early May) when we get to read part 2!! Then I'll have more sigh and swoon moments. Right?! Well I better!

abstract, poignant, or metaphorical. This book is NOT!!!
It's sensitive, conflicted and Adolescent in its description.
Lake meets Manning. A construction workers in their neighbourhood , one fateful day when Tiffany forgets to pick her up from afterschool. Manning takes a liking to her and she's enamored by him. 
In steps Tiffany and as usual takes Manning's attention away from Lake. 
Theirs becomes a complicated relationship. Manning needs Tiffany to remain in Lake's life, Lake needs Tiffany to camouflage her own desires and stay in a relationship with Manning by association.
I am not a fan of YA or NA romances , in fact I'm actually put off by them. Maybe I'm more older, wiser and more cynical. BUT this book I couldn't walk away from. I was forever thinking about the characters.
With each chapter , I swear my heart broke a little more, I was choked a little more, I fell in love with Lake and Tiffany a little more.

True romance of Beaver and Super Mc 
The Hockey star meets a reluctant Puck bunny . 
The book is so funny, had me in splits the entire time. Violet is written so wittily, I wanna be like her. She's highly inappropriate, no filter , no holds barred girl, who meets Alex Waters. There's instant chemistry bet the bunny and the Lumbersexual . 
Story is not much, albeit very smart witty writing, that makes it a must read .
the situations are so funny, esp the " Caping " of the MC, the Beaver bruises and violets hilarious musings are so so entertaining 
a must light read

ROUGH
A brave endeavour by CD to delve into the psychological trauma of soldiers. She takes us behind the curtains of war into the realms of PTSD. It's not pretty at all. It's downright sinister and malignant.
A remarkable start to a undoubtedly very tense story. Dealing with veritable disorder, very significant and very current, sometimes object of prejudice or ridicule, in some inappropriate hands, but I'm sure I'll emerge as a better informed and more knowledgeable of the dangerous traumas that are byproducts of uneccessary wars.

What is better than one amazing book to get lost in? A whole anthology of them!! With some of my favorite authors, this anthology is a must read mix of some wonderful love stories.

WRONG by Jana Aston

What do you get when you mix a hilarious twenty-one year old virgin heroine, a hot, dirty talking alpha hero, epic banter, and heaps of awkward and embarrassing yet hilarious interactions? A laugh-out-loud, steamy, sweet addition to the world of romantic comedy. Add in a swoony epilogue and I couldn't keep the smile off my face.

BEAUTY AND THE MUSTACHE by Penny Reid
5 stars!
I loved this book!! In true Penny Reid style, the heart and humor, mixed with pain and seriousness, creates a beautiful story full of depth and emotion. The storyline is heavy but with the laughs and heart Reid delivers, this story is a wonderful rom com that will put a smile on your face.

I’m always fascinated by Jessica’s way of weaving a heartfelt story. Lake is young, she wants to please her parents by being a good student and a good daughter in every way. Over time her crush on Manning, who’s older, develops into something much more despite obstacles that come into play, including her sister. This Devon’s into one of the most captivating stories I’ve ever read!

Something in the Way by Jessica Hawkins
For the angst lover of forbidden romance, this is the start of an epic story of Lake and Manning spanning over many years. They meet the right person at the wrong time and adding to the inconvenience is Lake’s sister, who is the right age for Manning. If there was ever a book that gave me stomach ulcers, this would be it. I was on the edge of my seat with anticipation through this whole series, yet I loved it!

Only Trick by Jewel E. Ann
Trick and Darby are opposites from the get go. Trick is a bit of a mystery because even he doesn’t know who he is whereas Darby is exactly who she says she is. Building a friendship, they get to know one another and start letting the walls down. I was intrigued because I wondered when Trick would remember things and how that would affect his relationship with Darby. Does letting someone in also mean letting them go? There’s a lot of funny moments, too, in dialogue or misunderstandings that I was engaged the whole time.

Wrong by Jana Aston
You can’t go wrong with this one (pun intended). When a young college student fantasizes about the sexy repeat customer at the coffee shop where she works, she certainly never expected him to be the one examining her in a completely different way at her visit to the OB/GYN. This was laugh out loud hilarious and cute overall.

Consolation by Corinne Michaels
This one pulls out all of the feels. Natalie is a grieving widow, struggling to raise her daughter while mourning for her husband Aaron. Liam, Aaron’s best friend, tries to look after Natalie and he is incredible. It wasn’t like they were attracted to each other in the past when Aaron was alive, but the connection of Aaron’s loss, along with other revelations, really brings them together. Natalie slowly works toward being her own self again. I adored Liam and how he supported Natalie, because she gets hit with some unexpected curveballs and the ending was the biggest one of all.

Valentines Days & Night’s Anthology filled with breath-taking five-star reads. You need this anthology in your life, this collection is just sublime, there are so many stand out authors, you can get so many great books for such a great price.
Something in the Way was my stand out read, so my review is of that one and others will follow when I get to them. Sixteen-year-old Lake Dolly Kaplan is a young woman with a serious head on her very innocent shoulders, she has never been kissed, she enjoys studying and her dad has a plan for her that doesn’t involve unsuitable boys, that’s what her sister is for. Lake has never thought of boys in the way that she starts thinking of him, a hot, dark yummy older man who works construction next door.
Him being Twenty-three-year-old Manning Raymond Sutter a man who knows first-hand that life isn’t fair, when he finds up a gold bracelet on site he didn’t realise it would change his life in more ways that anyone would think possible. Manning and Lake have a connection, but he knows she in innocent and he wants to keep her that way. But life doesn’t always work out the way you want, and no matter how hard you want your happy ever after you don’t always get it. Lake may have seen Manning first but her older sister Tiffany sees him next, and Tiffany is a girl who gets what she wants, just ask her daddy.
I loved how this one as it was set in a simpler time, the 90s were my golden era so I loved all the references and remembering just how hard life was without such things as a mobile phone, things like having to rush home to make sure you didn’t miss a call from a boy you like. I was so surprised by the characters in this book, I also surprised myself as I saw more of myself in Tiffany than I liked. I will even own up to how much I wanted to change my name to Tiffany when I was younger as mine was so boring, and I used to have a massive girl crush on Tiffany the late 80s pop star, I still sing along every time I hear the song (head hanging in shame).

Something in the Way by Jessica Hawkins is an outstanding love story about Lake & Manning two young people who have a lot to uncover and their journey starts in this best-told story.
Pucked by Helena Hunting is laugh out loud antics of a hockey player, her writing style and word phrases are unique and visual.
CD Reiss & Skye Warren will take you on a trip of a lifetime. If you are not familiar with their writing it's not for the faint of heart!
While Julia Kent can shop with the best of the billionaires!
Corinne Michaels is as sweet as can be but her writing can be sassy!
Jana Aston's her stories are hilarious, I wish my University had a hot doctor!
Only Trick by Jewel E. Ann is by far one of my favorites. Wow, just amazing the plot, the twists, the story, the author! I have been working my way through Jewel E. Ann's repertoire and I strongly recommend that you read them as well. Without a doubt she will leave you a better person, her writing is touching about human experiences but not knocking you over the head. Oh, let's not forget her sense of humor, absolutely! She knows how to tell a story.
Highly recommended this anthology!

I have read Wrong by Jana Aston. And will add more to my review as I read the others in the Anthology.

This book was very refreshing and filled with a lot of humor. I loved the storyline, characters created, the banter between the characters with just enough sexy. Sophie was sassy and Luke was a hot demanding doctor. What more could you want? The only issue I had was at times it felt like it skipped scenes to quickly. I know this was Aston's very first book. A great first book by Jana Aston.

Awesome collection

This collection contain nine full length novels of which I had only read one previously. There were a few authors I hadn't read yet. Most of the novels are an introduction to a series so they get you hooked and wanting to read the others. A few of the books end in a cliffhanger which I wasn't a fan of in this type of collection. But overall, the novels were really good and we'll written.
