Old frenemies become staunch allies as the strongest team in the history of Gun Gale is born! This time, LPFM, named for Llenn, Pitohui, Fukaziroh, and M, will enter the third annual Squad Jam and overcome fierce competition and mysterious rules to uncover the mysteries of the UNKNOWN area that lies at the center of the map!
It's a little strange/gross that the two queer characters in the story are also ~*insane*~
but also, this volume manages to be just as funny and goofy as the last three/the anime, and the characters likable in their quirkiness. It's hard to seriously dislike xD
Diving straight in to yet another battle royale tournament, this time our leads LLENN and Pitohui are finally fighting on the same team.... or so they thought!
While it does get kinda old at parts by pretty much skipping any pretense at character development or plot, the non-stop action of GGO Squad Jam spin off does compensate mostly. I do admit I would like to see some IRL scenes and more character bonding amongst the regulars instead of relegating most of them to short chapters where they get eliminated.
Yet another two-parter, the Squad Jam this time is a clear homage to the PUBG-type setup. There's also a further twist just as the book ends, leaving with a pretty big cliffhanger for next time.
Unlike the previous volumes, this time there's more focus on the other characters that were introduced as passing foes in the previous installments, which does make the action feel more varied due to the different game play styles. It's also much more down to earth and believable, which I assume is the author realising that our leads may have taken things a bit too far at times in the previous showdowns.
That said, the climax of the arc is yet to come, so I'm expecting even more ridiculous crap to happen.
The first three volumes were really great and had the action be character driven. This...not so much.
It’s okay, but definitely a step down as the only goal so far is Llenn’s rematch with SHINC. Everyone else is just for the ride. Actually, by everyone else, most of this volume is about the other teams dying in order for the special rule to activate and set up the next volume. Honestly, it’s a bit disappointing. Less character and more action. Though the short story at the end about the author is hilarious.
