Ryohgo Narita (成田 良悟, Narita Ryōgo) is a Japanese light novelist. He won the Gold Prize in the 9th Dengeki Novel Prize for Baccano!, which was made into a TV anime in 2007.[1] His series Durarara!! was also made into a TV anime, which began airing January 2010

There are two traits found in most of Narita's works:
* Narita writes extremely fast, one volume a month if he wishes - with tons of spelling errors and missing words as a tradeoff. The editors like to leave them sometimes just for fun, though.
* His work titles often have an exclamation mark at the end (i.e. Baccano!, Vamp!, Durarara!!, etc.).

Kanji names:

I do have to admit that part of me is happy about this series coming to an end while the other part is quiet sad as it means I’ve been able to finish another series that has been with me for a good 10 years. I still remember hunting the internet for fan translation of these light novels, piecing together fragments of each volume, but never having the full picture as fans tended to only translate parts including their favorite characters.
Now that it’s come to an end, I do have to say that I still love Durarara!! for what it is. It is a very interesting story featuring many characters, questioning many rights and wrongs and delivering a certain entertainment, but I also have to admit that – maybe because it’s been with me for such a long time – I also have to realize that my opinion on certain things has changed rather a bit. For one thing I did think that in the end it got a bit too chaotic, a bit too repetitive (starting at around volume 10 or 11) with events reoccurring just in larger scales or different ways and a bit too unrealistic even for what Durarara!! was to begin with. This definitely took a bit from my enjoyment (though it easily could be me “getting too old” to enjoy it fully for what it is). It also did show me though how much I love certain secondary characters like Kadota and Karisawa which I appreciated from the start, but now absolutely adore for bringing a different (more “sane” at parts) view into the story. I also do have to admit that Mikado still remains one of the most interesting fictional characters that I’ve met in my “manga career”.
I’d still recommend this series to anybody who wants to take a first step into reading light novels as it’s entertaining, interesting and features many different characters you can only find in Japanese light novels or mangas.

And thus the story of incredible chaos has rolled to its end. It's been a long 9-year journey, with so much memories, good or bad alike. I feel kind of somber now thinking about the past days.
Anyhow, Ikebukuro has woven back to its everyday form. We'll still see vending machines flying here and there, the screeching sound of the Shooter the legendary motorcycle, the frolicking buzz of the people whose lives are woven around the abnormal, and the endless moment of happiness shared by our lovely trio. The only thing Ikkebukuro loses is the mastermind Izaya, though I doubt anyone would give a damn about his wellbeing.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for this outstanding series, Sir Ryohgo Narita. I'm looking forward to reading new works from you.

Jeszcze pozostaje jedna kwestia: TO BYŁO NIEMOŻLIWE.

And so ends Durarara!! While the last book is great, there was something about the ending that didn't sit well with me. Would I recommend the series? Most definitely! Even if the ending could have been better, the journey and the amazing characters are definitely worth it.

Won't spoil it for anybody so I can't really talk about the plot.

A great way to end the series. Really makes me want to rewatch season one of the Anime. Then watch season two. It was very sad when they all left the chatroom.

So the series finally comes to a close – and I’m mostly lukewarm about it to be honest. It was, in my opinion, a pretty unsatisfying finale overall. It only sort of ties up most of the stories leaving plenty of dangling ends for the author to be forced to pick up and write spin-offs and sequels with. Such is the nature of light novels.

I think a huge part of what made this volume feel week was that it lacked any illustrations. Light novels usually have a few – it’s part of the genre. Durarara!! as a series has set up an expectation of including illustrations from Suzuhito Yasuda as part of what to expect and we don’t get a single image to break up the walls of text in this book. There were SO many cool scenes and character moments that would have made amazing illustrations so it’s pretty disappointing to see nothing.

The strongest thread in the conclusion is the inevitable grand battle between Shizuo and Izaya. It’s what most readers have likely been holding out for – myself included. Izaya really felt full as a character and I’m certain even those who didn’t adore him might be able to root for him when they see his strange hero complex. It’s too bad we don’t figure out exactly what happens to him after.

Masaomi, Mikado and Anri have their story pretty well tied up but it’s not satisfying. Mikado seems like a character who just does whatever he needs to do for plot convenience. At best he is a monster who’s death would have been a positive for everyone around him. It’s weird to see him praised and go on to a normal life after fooling around with gangs so much.

Celty and Shinra are weird. Their ending is weird, but it’s also at least a touch romantic so I can forgive it.

It just feels like what I wanted is maybe the sequel series Durarara!! SH. Or maybe the Izaya spin-off series. I will do my best to read those if they get published because I truly adore some of the characters in this universe. However, the main series just….started so strong and kind of dipped into disappointing for me.

Also – I thought we’d get through a whole book without the copy-paste Celty paragraph explaining what creature she was but NOPE THERE IT IS AT THE END OF THE BOOK. So close.
