Berry's point seems so much like common sense you might have expected that we would have heard more about this idea prior to now. That is, community is at the heart of mission. The Trinity model community and forms the basis of our understanding of community. The basic strategy is to make community as porous as possible so it is natural for people to become part of the community quite easily. The harder it is to become part of the community, the less accessible the church is to become part of the community and therefore less missional. The essential quality is grace. This is reflected in hospitality and inclusivity, when a guest becomes part of the community. Berry's point to make needs to be reiterated and employed effectively in all we are and do. A welcome contribution.
