She was the one that got away. I won't let it happen again, no matter the cost.
In high school I was the brooding boy that didn't get along with anyone.
Then Amber dragged me into the Drama Club, demanding I fill in for a classmate who was sick. She was wild, funny, and stubborn as hell. We became best friends... soul mates.
Until I made a huge mistake and she never spoke to me again.
Now, years later, I'm a full-fledged actor with the leading role in a TV series.
I might be successful, but I'm weighed down by memories of the girl I loved.
Then I walk onto the set and see Amber sitting in the director's chair.
She's more gorgeous than ever. I'm aching to run my fingers through her thick hair.
When she looks at me, her eyes burn with fury.
But I don't care if she hates me.
I'll risk everything to get her back.

This is the first book in this duet and although I am a major Penny Wylder fan this just didn’t grab me the way her other books do. It’s a story of love and second chances.

Amber has just scored the job of her dreams, directing a new tv show this is what she has been working for her whole life, however her past and future are about collide in a way she never saw coming when her high school sweetheart and first love has been cast for the main character. After his betrayal she never thought that she would see him again and wasn’t expecting all her old feelings to still be there. Can she hide her true feelings and work with the man who has always had her heart or will her feeling overwhelm her and destroy her future career.

Peter’s career is finally taking off as an up and coming actor the last person he expected to see when he arrives for his first day on set of a new tv series was the girl who put him on this path and the one person who claimed his heart the very same day. Can Peter really put his feelings behind him and focus on the future and not the past?

This was a really good read my only complaint was the jumping back and forth between the past and present and it didn’t tie together as well as it could but I cannit wait to read book 2.

ARC received by author in exchange for an honest review!

It was a good book, it ended with a cliffy.. Normally I would'nt read one without the second one at hand. But with an ARC I make an exeption, also it was mentioned that the second one is in the near future.

Amber is an easy girl/woman to like. But to be perfectly honest I found the reason for the fight/hate a bit much.. Maybe because I'm not that invested in such situations.

Peter was a very nice, shy person when he was younger. When he grew up he became sure of what he wants and goes for it.

Honestly, the reason for their falling out was ridiculous and is crazy to even think it's what kept them apart for ten years.
When Peter and Amber are eventually reunited, Peter goes on to talk about how he's always thought about her, is it for him, and is in love with her - yet, he's never once googled her? Tried to find out what she's doing? Learned she's his new director before showing up to set?

And even with all this, Amber takes a step back from their healing relationship because of a scandal that happened with a different director. What happened to the Amber who was blunt, said and did whatever she wanted, and didn't care about PDA?
Peter talks on and on about how things are going to be different this time, and how he won't let her go without a fight, but when it came to it - when he saw Amber retreating out of fear for her job and reputation - he lets her.
Their characters were too inconsistent for me.

Oh my F’ing crap!!

That’s it!! After part 2 of this comes out and I’ve read it I’m not reading anymore of Penny Wylder books again!!!

PW’s writing is wonderful. She sucks you in every time. However, her story synopses are sooo incredibly STUPID!! They almost never make logical sense. Situations that in real life only idiots would make the choices her characters make.

Her book “SEXT” is a prime example of being utterly ridiculous that to this day I can quote its massive stupidity to any that asks what was the worst book I’ve read, and trust that I’ve read some doozies!

This book started off somewhat gripping. I wanted to know what happened in the past and I wanted to see where the present took them. But as per PW’s M.O., the reason for the drama is so minor as to make it an “are you serious right now?” kind of moment. It makes you question what was the point of reading the book!!

Also, there is NO HEA HERE!!

The book stops in the middle of the story on a cliffhanger, I assume for book/part 2. I was wondering why it was titled as a Duet. There was no warning that you needed to wait for book/part 2 to get the full story. Look, I understand it’s a publishing ploy to sell more books, to keep readers wanting and looking for more. I get it.

What I want publishers and writers to get is we the readers are being jerked around. I want a completed story. I don’t want to spend my money on HALF of a book! Personally, I don’t care for dragged out anything’s. But mostly, I don’t like this new thing where sections or episodes of a story are released as a full book when they aren’t.

So yes, it was a very interesting story. Yes, the reason for the drama was atypical PW usual “STUPID”. Yes, I will buy book/part 2 to finish it and get my closure. But after that, I won’t waste another dime or minute on a Penny Wylder book. It’s been too many misses then hits for me and I don’t want to keep giving bad reviews. I gave it four stars because she is a good story teller. I’m just not happy with the end results.

Let's start this review (I have read both books in this duet ...just so you know!) with books that I love totally from heaven and back ... by Penny so you get what & where i am coming from okay??! She has a style I am sort of use to and The Pool Boy, Quickie, Rockstars F#*k Harder, Drink Me Up, Her Dad's Friend, Getting Her Back, Caught Together, Selling Out to the Billionaire, Falling for the Babysitter these are my ultimate fave so far ... not saying that will not change ... but so far ... so this seemed more tame or calm??! I wanted to read book 2, first before I did my review for both of these books, a duet ... why has that become popular with author lately? I am so curious?? I did enjoy this book a bit more than the 1st?? just my humble opinion now. u make or have your own thoughts, it's all good!! for me ... i felt it was a different side of Penny ...that i've never seen before??! now it is not like u can no see a similarity to what she has written in the past ... but like this was way different? a light size, more calm? but in a great way. Not that I have ever met Penny face to face ...but I know what her writing has and I always come back ... when I have been reading another reads .. I know I can always come to back this old friend ... she writes well developed characters ... steamy hot spicy moments ... great book covers. she just rocks!! plain and simple. i have to come up with a way to write this without it taken the wrong way ...but know that pair of shoes (scarf, t shirt that makes your boobs look good? gosh, i know what i mean? come on book folks u have to know what i mean?? right??! we need girlfriends and boyfriends that agree, and get us ... deep down ... they hear us out. she has a way with her stories, she just knows??! how about a nice pair of jeans that make your ass look oh so fine??! an author that u will always read 'cause u never know what she might share, never a dull read, she is so fine ... okay ....now i feel like i might sing ... LOL!!) that you love wearing, that make you feel like yourself ... Penny is that like ... I don't mean any disrespect from that ... i am trying to give meaning ... she just gets in your ears and u feel like u have missed her when u have not read one of her books in a while ... i have a few authors like that ... Gosh i hope they know I love them dearly. i feel like i now them and I hope to one day give them a big old hug and say GIRL ... u make my life better, thank you for your entertainment!! THANK YOU! i'll always read more from Penny ... i would say ... u gotta read both books ...without them both u will lack in the understanding of these great characters??! Amber & Peter. must read. great duet! is it my 1st duet yet? i think so. tell me authors why the duets? why not a series? so curious??!

For Her by Penny Wylder is book 1 of the duet which is a two part romance about high-school sweethearts, second chance at love, and glamorous world of Fame and its partnership with celebrities.
Peter and Amber reconnect on the set of a project that is extremely important for both main characters to both their careers. Peter is a well known actor and Amber is a rising yet in demand director. Both of them have more on the line than their careers- It's their hearts. The story is intriguing, intense, passionate steamy and ends on one hallo of a cliffhanger. I can't wait to read the conclusion to this duet to find out if Peter and Amber do get their well deserved HEA. Ms. Wylder has written a really good story that has a great plot and the characters will have you clamoring for more. The steam and heat is really hot. I can't wait for book 2.

Amber and Peter were high school sweethearts until they broke up. Years later Peter is a well known actor and when he walks in he sees Amber is the director for the next project. Amber is an upcoming in demand director and determined not to let anything or anyone stand in her way. Peter is determined to get Amber back but will she give him another chance? A good second chance read that I recommend.

This is the first book in The Girl I Loved Duet and starts the duo off on a high note. Amber and Peter have a second chance at love. A chance to rekindle what ended on a bad note back in high school. Plenty of drama and an abundance of chemistry will keep your Kindle alive. Well written with lots of twists, surprises and a cliffhanger. I read an arc and voluntarily chose to review.

Peter is the new kid at school and he’s being by himself most of the time until A,ver comes along and convinces him to audition at the drama club.
Peter agrees and so begins their relationship, a first love where they will share all their first times and where Peter will fall in love with acting.
But it all ends when Peter endangers Amber’s career, trying to do it with good intentions.
Now 10 years later they see each other again since she is the new director of the series in which he works.
A single glance will suffice for Peter to know that Amber is the one for him, he’s still in love with her, but first he will have to get her to forgive him for the past.
It’s a ok read, entertaining but I’m hoping for some angst and drama.

My third book by this author and I'm happy that this one has more of a story developed.
Peter seems perfect. His dynamic with Amber is great. The big mystery of what he did to break them is revealed (and honestly, he didnt do anything wrong) and all seems well. And then it's not and ends in a cliffhanger.
I liked both characters a lot. I loved them as a couple. The storyline of him being an actor and her a director both working on a new show works well.
The sex was more innocent and sweet (I guess since they were in HS). I definitely want to know what happens in book 2.
Glad the author decided to write a better developed story for this one.

For Her

Oh Peter’s got his work cut out for him. Peter an up and coming star in LA can’t get his high school sweetheart off of his mind. So when he finds out that she is the new director for his new show he knows that he will do whatever it takes to get her back. But, Amber won’t make it easy for him. With the painful past between them and now her position she just doesn’t want to hurt the future that she has worked so hard for. I hope these two can work things out. Can’t wait for book 2.

Is the second time always easier

Penny has started This story with a bang. I am on pins and needles to find out if Peter and Amber can find their love again. Amber started peter 's introduction to acting and first love but because of circumstances beyond control their love was split apart. Can that love survive new adult problems when an actor and director come together? I guess we will find out, and I am on pins and needles for book 2. Something that is very different for Penny Wylder.

Good story

Peter and Amber were high school sweethearts who now could have a second chance at a relationship together. It's been 10 years, but neither have stopped thinking of the other. Will Amber ever forgive Peter for what he did? This was a good story, but not a huge fan of the constant back and forth between past and present. It does tell the back story and what happened to their relationship back then. This is a cliffhanger as it is a duet.

Not again

I stayed with the story, struggling & hoping that it would get better, then realized at the very end it was 'to be continued' - to say that I have been highly disappointed in the PW books recently is a huge understatement. Not the original author I had previously enjoyed through the years. Sorry to see you go.

Too hot to Handle and couldn't put down.

This is another successful hit for Penny. She made going back to high school worth it, in this book 😉. I felt like I was on an emotional rollercoaster, but I don't want to get off this one. I can hardly wait to see what happens in the second book.

Different

It's not classic penny wylder, it's more adult, realistic storyline. A nice change but I wish it wasn't a serial. Cliffhangers are aggravating.

Hollywood hunk!

Format: Kindle Edition

Let me start by saying I can't wait to dive into the second part of this duet when it's available because the beginning of this story was too good to forget and now I need the rest of it!

Up and coming actor, Peter Holleman, is finally getting the recognition he's been working towards in the form of his own TV detective show. The icing on the cake is the director he admires and wants to learn from is attached to the show until he arrives on set and sees who's sitting in the directors chair instead. Peter's world is rocked when Amber Dwyer, his former high school girlfriend, the beautiful, strong girl he loved, also the one who accused him of ruining her life, is now in charge of his new gig. This is going to be very awkward!

This sweet but sexy second chance story is told from both Peter and Amber's POV's and we are pulled onto the past now and then to see their beginning, which added dimension and insite to their younger lives. She takes the new, quiet kid in school under her wing and into the drama world where they star together in a classic play..can you say Mr. Darcy? I loved seeing how they fell in love and stayed that way until...let just say, Amber never got over 'IT' and sadly, Peter hasn't heard a word from her in all these years.

Then we are back in present time and watch the story continue to unfold. The past and present transitions are smooth and I never felt like..what is going on? It added depth to the story and you find yourself cheering for Peter to win back his girl. But will he?

This is yet another of Penny's great storylines, loved the Hollywood/LA setting and who doesn't love a gorgeous, but sweet and sexy star with his heart still pining for his 1st love. Amber is is a force in her own right, smart, sassy and strong enough to stand on her own. Will they ever stand together or has that door been shut for good?

I hope the next book, For Us, will give me all the answers as this one ended with a cliffhanger. If you love a good romance with a Hollywood twist, give For Her a click and enjoy.

An advanced copy was provided for me to review.

What an amazing book and start to a duet about Peter and Amber's story. I absolutely loved their story and can not wait to see what happens in For Us, the send book in their story. Peter and Amber first meet when they meet in high school and Amber befriends the new kid in school. They start off as friends and soon become more than that. Amber is everything to Peter and he wants to make a life with her after high school. Something happens their senior year and Amber thinks Peter has ruined her dreams. Peter never meant to do anything to hurt Amber and doesn't understand all that has happened. Fast forward 10 years and the two meet up again. Peer is a successful actor and Amber is the director brought in to replace the original one to direct his show. Peter sees this as a second chance to prove his love to Amber and that he meant what he said years ago that she is the only one for him. Amber has a hard time believing him and forgiving him for what he did years ago. Though he doesn't know what truly happened and why Amber has never forgiven him; Peter is determined to make her fall in love with him again. Amber and Peter can not deny the connection they had is still there and finally give into their feelings. Amber is also dealing with fears she has of being a woman in a predominantly male world and wants to make sure she is taken seriously. This first book ends in a cliffhanger when Amber pushes Peter away. Will they be able to get past everything and find their way back to one another? Peter vowed to never stop until he is back with Amber again. Will he keep his promises? Will Amber finally stop running and let Peter in? I can not wait to find out. This is one of my favorite books by Ms Wylder and I fell in love with Peter and Amber.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Penny Wylder is a second chance romance writing genius!

This story blew me away. I can't wait for the second half. Peter and Amber's story has so much depth and complexity - I was living their lives right along with them from cover to cover and am completely invested. I need more! I need to know how this unfolds.

Not only is this storyline scrumptious, we get these brilliantly written time hops that takes us back to their relationship from the day they meet all the way until they part ways. Creating a backstory full of vivid detail and ALL the feels. Meanwhile the present is beginning to heat up. So much push and pull. Their attraction and chemistry is undeniable. Their love is so true, the very essence of what anyone would dare hope to find.

Both of these characters have a lot on the line once again. Not just their hearts but their careers. Will they juggle keeping the spark alive while protecting their secret past and present OR will they too become the topic of gossip rags and Amber's professional reputation be forever tarnished?

This duet is my favorite book so far by Penny Wylder and I've only read the 1st installment. I have not doubt the 2nd book will exceed my lofty expectations. Definitely her best work in my opinion. I have read and loved a lot of this authors work. A lot were insta loves or lust with delicious take control alphas that just make my panties melt. This duet proves how truly talented and diverse Penny is.

For Her by Penny Wylder is book one of the duet and this book has a prequel feeling. Peter and Amber reconnects on the set of a project that is extremely important for both of their career. Peter is a well known actor and Amber is a rising director. Both of them more in line than their career. It's their hearts. The story is narrated from dual POV and in two timelines. That was really interesting to read! Amber makes the same mistake she did years back and end up pushing Peter away when he was only trying to do the best for her. Can they overcome this again?

I have a weakness for second chance Romance. There is something hopeful and epic about finding way back to true love from childhood. And Penny Wylder has written it beautifully! I would love to know more about Peter and Amber's character in next book and I am looking forward to it. Peter is handsome, talented, gentle and so caring. Amber has a big secret in her heart but she is an amazing lady and a brilliant director. I loved reading their school day story as the young love was truly amazing! The chemistry was burning yet soothing. My only regret was that it finished too early! A lovely second chance Romance you would totally fall in love with!

Blazing rekindling of past youthful first romance…so good
Although this book, one of two, ends on a crushing cliffhanger, get it! This is an amazing second chance romance. The book is written moving smoothly from current events to their past in high school. In this way Ms. Wylder answers many questions I had about their 10-year estrangement.
In current times Peter is a semi-successful actor embarking on a new series which could mean the beginning of great things for his acting career. His director is none other than the girl from his youth, Amber, who he can’t forget. She likewise has much to prove. They were each other’s “firsts” and those scenes are beautiful and HOT. (Ms. Wylder can write the best and most delicious sexy scenes.) Many of these settings occur between a youthful Peter and Amber as they play the parts of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy in a high school performance.
Currently, she’s the director, he’s the talent and never the twain shall meet, right? Until they do! In a blaze they rekindle their high school romance with an adult edge but can they get away with it in this town with all the gossips ready to take them down? This book is highly recommended and I’m having a hard time waiting for book #2. I volunteered to review an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
