What if you woke up to the end of the world? After losing her low paying job, Gwen Bell didn’t know how she was going to pay for her next months rent. But one morning, when she wakes up terribly ill, her life takes a terrifying turn she couldn’t have ever imagined. The power is out. Her phone doesn’t work. And the sky is blood red. When Jamie, the good-looking neighbor she barely knows stops by, she quickly learns that something has gone horribly wrong. Together Gwen and Jamie need to find a way to survive until help arrives. But what if there isn’t anyone out there to help?
Kellee L. Greene is a stay-at-home mom to two super awesome and wonderfully sassy children. She loves to read, draw, and spend time with her family when she's not writing. Writing and having people read her books has been a long time dream of hers and she's excited to write more. Her favorite genres are Fantasy and Sci-fi. Kellee lives in Wisconsin with her husband, two kids, and two cats.
Meh. I know there are two other books in the series, but honestly have no desire to read them. This was so freaking slow and tiresome. You know something is wrong when you actually loathe all the main characters.
I read this so fast, after finishing The Ravaged Land books. I am now on the second book, Blue Cloud. Gwen is living alone in an apartment, doesn't really know her neighbors, until an event takes place followed by violence in the streets below and in the apartment building. She sees a red sky outside her window and she is very sick. Some other residents join her and they make a plan about what to do. Gwen's estranged brother shows up whom she hasn't seen for three years. He proves a valuable participant and Gwen trusts him but doesn't forgive him. A great start to another story in the world of the postapcalypse.
Gwen’s has anxiety on a massive scale and is antisocial so I found it very hard to like her. She also is leading on two different guys yet opinionated about another girl who is very forward and done nothing wrong. I found the book frustrating because for a post apocalyptic book character she is a week sheep with no prep no idea no way to take care of herself no bravery and that’s not anyone I want to continue reading about. I understand building a character up on a journey but there was no improvement at all.
Very average story, poor development and pretty crap characters! It was extremely slow to start, but then got a bit pacier and more interesting towards the end. I have the other books in the series - had to buy all of them at the same time!! So will continue reading but don’t have particularly high hopes... The Walking Dead with decent characters who have useful skillsets it isn’t 😁
It’s ok. This book goes nowhere. It leaves so many unanswered questions it’s ridiculous. There was so much potential but it fell short. It doesn’t look like there is going to be a sequel but who knows?
Why...just why...I don't understand how that was slow but fast....nor why after so much to e in the apartment, I haven't freaking clue 1whats the appearance! Same with the ppl, I know Jamie was how, Bronx had muscles, in an unattractive but also super attractive way?! Nick could be subbed in by any frat brother themed episodes of intervention. Blair was hot?? Or a bimbo? Or a mean girl? Maggie blended in with the carpet.grandma...existed...somewhere...danny also existed,... And Gwen, whose name was used so rarely I kept having to check who she freaking was! I'm still not entirely convinced she wasn't s moody yet all together not scary a ghost.
This starts out with an interesting red sky and sickness mystery. It bogged down badly with the endless vacillation of the refugees in Gwen’s apartment. Even the stalwart Bronx was not able to defeat Gwen’s angst, lethargy and anger at her brother. There were editing issues (using their instead of they’re for example). I’m curious enough about the mysterious disaster that I will give book 2 a try.
Gwen, 23, loses her job and wakes up ill. The sky is red, the electricity is out and things have just started turning bad. Something has happened that has killed most of the people. She will now, with some others, try desperately to survive what has happened where, now, the main danger is from other humans.
It's a pretty typical story of its type but it's still pretty good.
Was this even proofread? There's no continuity. She wakes up, throws up, worries about the sky, and then starts to jump into a quasi "every man for himself" deal. No electricity, but she takes a shower, not even concerned about a possible lack of water. Has no one even seen a survival movie? Even Mad Max would have known better than these guys.
These are some of my all time favorite post apocalyptic/survival books. I have read almost all of this authors books and have loved EVERY SINGLE ONE! My only complaint, and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5, is all of the spelling and punctuation errors. Otherwise, they are all amazing! Quick, fun and intense!
Felt like it took a while to get started and didn’t feel like it picked up until around half way through. But it ended when I wasn’t expecting it, but it makes sense for the series progression.
The author gave the characters really immature vocabulary and Gwen was pretty slutty. They all needed to grow up. There were a lot of grammatical and spelling errors too.
I bought the four-volume box set in July 2022. EMP and deadly gasses. End of World, people of low self-confidence and less than perfect lives. Bad guys meet bad end. EOTWAWKI.
