One minute Robert is fighting Demons in the pits of Hades and in the next he's standing in his old office at the local P.D. He's back in Vegas and wearing a badge, only something isn't right. He's human again and this isn't the Vegas he grew up in. This is somewhere else.
It was good to be a God, even if he was only the God of Hades. It wasn't exactly glamorous, but there were worse things a person could be. All in all, things were going just fine for ex-cop and P.I. Robert Hoskins. Hades was getting a makeover and his side gig as Gaea's Hero kept things interesting.
But Goddesses can be fickle and Gaea is no exception. Especially when she's feeling underappreciated.
Now Robert will have to navigate a world where magical creatures live openly with humans and magic spells are something you can buy at the corner store. If he can’t find out why Gaea sent him here, he could be trapped forever in a place where he’s mortal, and the constant target of Demons and other nasty creatures. That could be hazardous to his health!
But Robert has one thing the other humans lack, and that's knowledge. He may have lost his ability to make magic, but that doesn’t mean he's lost his edge. Vegas is still Vegas, and an edge is all a player needs to beat the odds.
For Robert Hoskins, it's good to be a God, or at least it used to be.
Mixing mythical creatures and ancient gods with an alternate Las Vegas and intriguing police procedural action, Tom Keller is the author of thrilling and fun fantasy adventure. He’s back… and so is his iconic creation, Robert Hoskins.
Books in the Vegas Fae Universe:
The Vegas Fae Stories
Book 1: Return of the High Fae Book 2: Of Gods and Fae Book 3: Twist of Fae Book 4: Not Just Another Fae Book 5: Night and Fae Book 6: Jewel of the Fae
Tom Keller is a retired cop and former computer forensics expert and Federal Public Defender investigator. Back in the early days he was a busboy, a cook, and a shoe and real estate salesman. He's taught courses at the local Community College as well as lectured to others in his field on a variety of topics. He lives in Las Vegas, Nevada. A place he's called home for over 40 years.
He had a website design business back in the days when you still accessed the Internet by modem. He's sold model airplanes and electronics on the web and eBay. He even had his own TV show for a season or two (okay, it was really low budget, better call it no budget, and it was on UHF for those of you that remember those kinds of things. But, hey, it did snag a 2.0 share one episode). He collects toy space guns, lunch boxes, and coffee cups, among other memorabilia. If he had a personal card it’d probably say something like ‘specialist in generalities,’ or as his brother would say, polymath.
Tom is still married to his college sweetheart and spends his free time with his family and spare time writing. He is a member of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America.
OK only issue with this book is that it is part of a 2 or 3 book arc and it leaves our hero kind of mid-story. I'm now dying to see what happens. I couldn't put this book down so I burned through it fast. Should have saved it for a long flight, or until the next book was published...
Not sure what to say. I still really like the MC. I was kind of put off and not really sure I got past the seemingly uber powerful capriciousness of Gaea. Her "love you" but there's an absolute faith requirement is "typical" alpha God stuff. This is the second time Gaea has elevated him and then dumped him down. She has a huge case of Lucy's footballitis. Sending Robert off to a potential permanent death just seemed unnecessarily petty. Amazing he doesn't have some totally justified cynical trust issues. I guess she doesn't have to be a likeable character to be well written. It is what it is.
Read the book in one sitting and haven't stopped rooting for Robert. Hope this doesn't just turn an alternate version rewrite of the original series.
It was an enjoyable read, but the cliffhanger ending disappointed me. I will still read the next, but I may not be as quick to when it is published. There were also a number of typos which bothered me.
I really enjoyed the latest twist in the world of the Vegas Fae. The fresh take Mr. Keller has given to the Fae world had been a wonderful change from the normal story lines. Never a dull moment with Robert in the worlds that have been created for him
First I must say that I really enjoyed this book. Even though it wasn't enough action for me I liked it none the less. Even Generations ( stories about our hero Robert's children ) could not take the place. I think everyone would enjoy this book but I recommend going back and reading them in order.
Gotta love a temperamental goddess! This was another amazing twist in an already awesome series. Though to be completely honest, my favorite character, was not in this book until the last page, and I may initially have wished Tom Keller a horrible fate, but he redeemed himself with the honor of a true master by writing what has become the most interesting book in the series.
This is probably my favorite book in the series so far. Robert is being taught a lesson and we get to see what he would be of he was still a police officer and a much different ancestry. The Fae, magic and political intrigue are all around while Robert has a huge learning curve helped by his own knowledge and experience. While the book ends abruptly, it is an enjoyable alternative world urban fantasy.
Nice save, Tommy. Things were getting out of hand.
Robert deserves all he gets. I like alternate universes. Since the stories are already set in an alternate universe, this is an alternate to that one. Have you read Fredric Brown's 'What Mad Universe'? Robert needs a few more smacks. Sequel promised.
Wasn’t sure I would like the direction of parallel setting for Robert. He is my favorite character so any setting I enjoy, I found. Not sure when or if it will loop back but will continue to read any book with Robert. Always fun and engaging.
This is the first book of the series that I’ve read. Obviously I’ve got a lot to catch up on. And, believe me I will. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and I’m looking forward to the sequel.
