When an Elephant Cries

Rate this book
I was looked after by a witch doctor and endured the shame of being

named Odur (which means “rubbish pit”) after my parents failed

to dispose of my umbilical cord and the placenta in the traditional

manner. Then one day Mr Lakor turned up and gave me another

name, Munu, which means “white man” in the Acholi language. His

simple gesture helped free my mind from shame, and I began to

imagine the possibilities out there for me as Munu.
