There is nothing in the world better than loving what you are. No hiding, no pretending. Simply shaking out your soul and smiling at the world.
Kassidy Elliot loved who she was, what she was. Being a Shifter was the best, finally being accepted, and welcomed, into the Pack officially? That was the goal, and she finally got in! But being Pack came with responsibility, and Kassi realizes that life isn’t as easy as she thought.
And sometimes you must obey the ancient laws of the hidden world to find the light...
**This is a slow burn Reverse Harem novel. One female, three males. It DOES end in a cliffhanger, but rest assured, book two is in progress.**
Francesca is a 30 year old book nerd, hobby photographer, and lover of all things random and weird. She has 3 children, two cats, 3 dogs, and lives in Southern WV with the whole lot and her husband of 14 years.
That was a surprising read, both addictive and overly frustrating. It was different from anything I've read, that's for sure.
The hardest thing to grasp was Kassi. Kassi was the protagonist but far from the focus of the story. She was not a heroine, she was not even a main character. She wasn't bad but she wasn't lead material. Even with thebromance, she was more of a love interest than anything. And sometimes it felt like wasting time. It was not until the very end and the cliffhanger -which was thankfully aforementioned- that the plot finally shifted her way. And for the first time in my life, i'm grateful for a hell of an abrupt hand.
Not what I was expecting! I thought the story line was going to go a different way, but it still was great, and loved the turn of events. Kassi is a young newly shifted wolf, whose adopted parents are witches. Her parents know a wolf pack in which Kassi is able to learn with, and eventually is accepted into. Not much is really touched on the fact that Kassi being adopted, or her even being bothered by it. She is new to the shifter world and has a lot to learn. She bonds with twins her age, Talia and Tyler, and is taught by Alpha Conal. Conal is a rough young very sexy alpha that twist Kassi up inside. We are also introduced to Jake, Conal's twin brother and also co-alpha. Surprise! Each very dreamy in their own right. And both driving Kassi, and maybe some readers **wink** crazy! the predicament: Young, malnourished and abused shifters are being found dead. Conal and Jake send Kassi, Talia and Tyler into another pack undercover to see what they can find out. There's many twist in this book, and it kept me as a reader very much engrossed in the book. I had to figure out what was going to happen next! This book is showing signs of RH, but so far slow burn, and just the two brothers. Cliffhanger ending also! But man did it give me whiplash! Not what I was expecting at all! Thank you to the author, Francesca Vance, for allowing me to read an ARC copy. This is my honest review.
DNF. OK, this book started out well, but then threw in some real no nos for me: 1. CLIFFHANGER EXTRAORDINAIRE; and 2. no timeline in sight for book 2; 3. killed off a character thus taking a dive into frustration and depression; 4. a crap cover.
When I was checking for a date for book 2, I inadvertently ran my eyes over text that indicated what is happening, so this took a DNF plunge.
I might be being mean and petty, but there you go.
Exciting, fast paced, and brilliantly conceived! This is the first book in a new parallel series from the Reaper world! You can expect the unexpected and still not see where the story is going until the end. There is not only a great cast of new characters but old friends who pop in to help out! You will laugh, cry and gasp at almost every turn of the page! One thing is clear you will be cheering for Kassi from the first page! But then some have a natural talent for finding trouble!
I loved, loved Asylum! In my opinion the story flowed beautifully and kept my attention from beginning to end. And oh man what an ending!!! It is a definite cliffhanger, but it sets it up for book two perfectly. We start off with Kassidy on a run with the pack she has been sent to, to adjust to being a wolf. She is learning all about shifter society from sexy alpha Conal. Now Kassi is a fun character, she is strong, funny, loyal, hard working and an open book. She was so easy to love and root for. Conal is your typical alpha. He is patient, good, fair and protective. The opening is all about background for the story and Kassi finding her place in the pack. She has two best friends, the twins, who just so happen to be the alpha's niece and nephew. They often get in trouble together. Things get even more interesting when Conal's brother shows up, Jake. I don't want to reveal much, so that you can read it for yourself, but things take off from there. I can tell you I am really liking Jake as much as I do Conal. And those two together.......I need to be in on that puppy pile. This is a slow burn RH, with three love interests. There is action, mystery, twists and turns, surprises, and honestly a good story. Don't miss this one!!
I’ve not read many Shifter novels before, and still consider myself a ‘newbie’ when it comes to all things Paranormal. So believe me when I say that this is a great introduction into the genre, which is how I’ve found all of Francesca’s novels, to be honest.
The amount of detail that goes in to describing each character, their thoughts and motivations, is amazing. I actually found myself imagining what it would feel like to transform into a wolf (because, you never know).
This story introduces us to Kassi, who believed herself to be a full human, adopted and bought up by witches. A bloody incident one evening blew that theory out of the water when she found herself transformed into a wolf. Now she is living with the Black Mountain wolves, under the tutelage of their Alpha, Conal.
The story details how Kassi fights for acceptance in this new Pack, having not been born into it. How she must fit into a different society, once again feeling like one of life’s perpetual outsiders.
Drama finds itself on the Packs doorstep, thanks to Conal’s brother Jake. He needs their help to solve several disappearances of young Shifters. Will this be Kassi’s chance to claim her place in the pack?
There is also an undercurrent of attraction, between Kassi and both of the Alpha brothers. This is a plot line that I’m sure will play out over several books.
This book has definitely whetted my appetite to read more of this genre. The book ends of a cliffhanger, which literally made me squeal out loud because I wasn’t ready for the story to stop.
When I finished the book, I had to remind myself that this is just fiction, that Shifters and Reapers and Fae aren’t real. That’s how good this book is. It makes the Paranormal normal.
Blurb: There is nothing in the world better than loving what you are. No hiding, no pretending. Simply shaking out your soul and smiling at the world.

I love shifter books and this one was a pleasant surprise. I was immediately sucked in and stayed up half the night reading it! I’m loving Kassi’s story. Can’t wait to snag book 2! Five glittery stars!
I both love and hate Ms. Vance at this point in time! lol just kidding. Seriously though, this book is amazing. She had me on the edge of my seat and biting my nails, as well as every other cliche known to all. I nearly cried at the massive cliffhanger! I need book 2 like yesterday!!

It has a lot of action and some romance but it doesn't overwhelm the plot. There's many twist in this book, and it kept me as a reader very much engrossed in the book. Cliffhanger ending! I can't wait for book 2. I recommend this book to anyone who loves shifters. (Also I recommend to a few of my book friends)
Thank you to the author for allowing me to read an ARC copy. This is my honest review.
I received this book as an ARC in return for an honest review!
I have to admit it took me a bit at the beginning to get into the story but once I reached chapter 2 I couldn’t stop anymore!
Kassie was adopted and grew up with witches as her parents. One day she shifted into a wolf and her whole life changed. Luckily for her, her parents are friends with a shifter who helped settle her in a wolf pack in order to help her get used to her new life and the shifting. She was put in Conal‘s care, the alpha of the pack. What I really enjoyed about the book is that we get two POVs: we get human Kassie and her wolf! It was so refreshing and interesting to read parts of the story from the wolf‘s perspective. Not only can we see that they are one but we also learn that they have minds and instincts of their own which together make them whole: one could not survive without the other. Kassie hat two friends in the pack: the twins Talia and Tyler who are also the Alpha‘s nephew and niece. The of three are the same age and bond well together. They have each other’s back and support each other which helps Kassie a lot since she is new in the pack and not considered a pack member but rather a visitor. With the help and support of the friends she has a feeling of belonging and not feeling alone. Conal takes her under his care: he gives her private training lessons, lets her live in his house and teaches her the dynamics of how a pack works. At the beginning Kassie sees him like monitoring more than the alpha who is training and shaping her, and he seems to see her as nothing more than another young wolf that needs training. But throughout the book we can see glimpses of more in both them. We than get introduced to Jake who not only is Conal‘s twin brother but also the co-alpha of the pack. He also seems to show interest in Kassie and vice versa. Kassie and the twins get send on a mission during the book in order to help solve why young shifters are being murdered. This storyline leads to several twists and turns that I did not expect leading to a cliffhanger ending! That ending was heart-breaking and I need the next book ASAP! There are indications of RH but so far there are only two “love interests” and it is very slow burn. If you are a fan of shifter, slow burn, RH novels this book is definitely for you!
Asylum, the first in the Shifter Society series, is a slow burn paranormal RH. There is a lot going on in this book and because of this it does start off quite slowly but then kicks into overdrive toward the end. Mind you I don’t believe it could have been written any other way due to some of the complexities going on in the background. Kassidy, adopted into a witch family, finds out she is a wolf shifter and has been sequestered away to a Pack so she can learn her heritage. Con and Jake are Alphas and obviously they become quite attached to Kass and she them but there is unrest within the Pack that needs attention, not only that but bodies of dead shifters are popping up and it’s the packs job to find evidence of this underground network behind the deaths. So whilst there is a lot of sexual tension there they can’t drop everything and explore where their attraction could lead. And if that’s not enough the story ends in a cliffhanger, omg so good though, I enjoyed every bit and anticipate the sequel!!
Supernatural. Slowburn. Rh. 3 potentials. Wolf shifters. Spirited, candid, a tad bit naive, shifter heroine. I'm liking where this is going. This book was a good setup for the action and scenarios to come. Kassidy has found want she needs. A pack. As she is initiated, the Alpha's twin shows up with some news. There have been several deaths. Authorities want Kassi's Alpha to sent people to investigate. Her and her two friend are chosen and they gladly except. I really enjoyed Kassi and her struggles. Shifters are my top favorite reads. I love Vance's views on shifter hierarchy. One thing that got to me was the spaces in between paragraphs. My reading brain has been trained for that space to be change of scene and it totally wasn't. Other than that loved the story and characters. Can't wait to see what happens next. Happy Reading.
I enjoyed this story. It was a good start to the series- I like all the characters, their personalities really show through. Kassi is cute and funny and naive. She's also headstrong and loyal. I felt her shifter nature really showed through- while 22 in human years, she was a very new shifter and it gave her an innocence and childish playfulness that was appealing. The world building concerning shifters was very well done in my opinion. I got a real sense for what they were like and it felt believable.
However, the writing felt a little immature and there were some villain tropes that were over used or over the top a bit. I also felt the ending was kind of cliche with Talia blaming Kassi and Kassi blaming herself. It made me roll my eyes a bit.
That said, I enjoyed the story and will read book 2.
That said, I enjoyed the story and will read book 2.
Oh where to start…this book has taken me on a roller coaster of emotions. At one point I almost threw my kindle across the room as my heart was breaking. This book has you hooked from the first chapter and hanging on every word until the very last sentence (when again my heart did flips)!!!! The author has such a way of vividly portraying wolf pack life through the eyes, trials and joys of Kassi, our heroine. Kassi is sarcastic, stubborn and doesn’t always like to do as she is told. She is joined by supporting characters that are amazing and each one so much fun to learn about as they are developed beautifully: Talia, Tyler, Conal, and Jake. I can’t say much more as my heart and mind are still reeling from the cliffhanger. Book 2 better come quickly.
This book was amazing completely well written could not put the book down for a minute. Right off the begining it has you trying to figure out whats going on. Kassidy was adopted and raise by witches, yet felt like she didnt belong. Then she turned wolf at age and joined Conal wolf pack. The story line was well in depth with the history and laws of the shifter Society and completely loved the relationship between the Twins, Kassidy and the Alphas. There were times i was so involed in a scene i was truly tempted to quickly read ahead to find out the outcome and the ending truly got me screaming and on my toes. I would truly recommend this book to everyone that is into shifters and slow-burn romance also some mystery. There are 2 men possibly 3 in this book, cannot wait for book 2.
A strong storyline and likeable characters in this book. I would have given it 5 stars but for me it was too long. I can’t say there was one particular scene that dragged it just took ages for them to leave and visit the other pack. It dwelled on puppy piles and used a slightly confusing conversation with the Reapers (who are the most fascinating of all the characters) to finally get them to leave and get to the other pack. The author has spent a lot of time world building the Shifter’s society and the writing is strong. With a really tough edit (it would be tough deciding what to take out) this would be one of the best books ever written for this genre.
This was a truly enjoyable take on shifter lore. Kassi was an interesting main character. Very strong, and yet naive to the world around her. It was a refreshing view into shifter society through the eyes of someone who is just learning what it means to be pack. The two alphas were very intriguing. I cannot wait to find out what happens next. I have really enjoyed watching these relationships develop. They hold so much potential. This was definitely a slow burn. I cannot wait to find out more as things progress. The story definitely did not go in the way I was anticipating, which was nice. The twists and turns definitely added to the overall feel.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters are great, and the story line is solid. Kassi grows up thinking she is a failed witch with her adoptive family, but discovers she is actually a werewolf. She meets up with the alpha twins that accept her into their pack, and feels she's found her proper place in the world. With a bit of adventure, danger, and heart wrenching occurrences ... get ready for a shifter story that may take you by surprise. I'd recommend this book to fans of the paranormal, reverse harem novels, and werewolves.
While reading Asylum, I had murdering tendencies toward author once or twice. But in the end I let her live. Primo, because it's illigal to murder people around me, and secundo (hey, I know some latin words thank you very much) because I need to know what is she plotting for book 2 in this series. I like Vance's Shifters. I like Kassie, her female lead character for this series. I do love her Alphas. And I like that plot has twists that it's interesting to read. Nothing is obvoius. I def recommend reading this book. Because it's worth it. Even if it end on massive cliffhanger ;)
I’m really happy I read this book. It was different and so interesting. Exciting with just enough drama to keep you interested. The writing is good and the characters likable. The journey Kassi and crew take is well you just have to read. I definitely recommend. I will warn you it you will be left with a cliffhanger that will haunt you. I requested and received an arc copy of this book. I also read again via subscription. This is my voluntary, true, and honest opinion.
This has to be one of the freshest and best shifter stories I have read in a long time! How can you not love Kassi, Con, Jake, Tyler and Tallie?! Everyone struggles with wanting somewhere to belong. Kassi more than others. When she finally is able, she risks losing her bourgeoning love(s), her brother and sister/best friends and even her life. The book was well written, fast paced and left on a killer cliffhanger. Kassi is a loving and friendly personality but takes no sh*t from anybody, Alphas included. Can’t wait to see how Kassi deals with the latest blow.
Oh my! What a fantastic start to a new series. Kassie is a wolf shifter, bought up by witches, her adopted parents, she is reasonably new to the shifter life. She feels bound by her alpha and has no idea why she is kept on a short metaphorical leash, but she has no idea what is coming
With great characters that I fell in love with and a fantastic storyline which is exciting and well paced, this story gripped me from the start and kept me glued to the page, I am very excited for book two
This book started out strong and I was really enjoying it. About halfway, I started to lose interest and the story seemed to have gone on another track. I made it 3/4 of the way through before I finally gave up and put it down.
I do want to mention that the writing and writing style were awesome. I guess the new plot is what threw me off. I will be checking out other books from this author.
So Kassidy might be the worst wolf shifter ever...and one of the most annoying. But the biggest issue I had was that I felt like the story went in circles. The characters had the same interactions with each other constantly and Kassidy must have "felt like she was in heat" like every other page. I get it, you're attracted to the alphas, you don't need to describe it the same way every single time you see them. This was definitely not for me.
Mercy! This was really good but the ending will leave you a broken mess. You’ve been warned. :) Well written story about a girl that’s never felt like she had a place in the world until she discovered what she was and found a group to not only accept her but teach her all the things she didn’t know. A sweet slow burn RH.
WOW!! This book is soooo damn good!! Seriously! It has everything you could want in a book. Fantastic characters, an engaging plot, slow burn romance and sooooo many secrets!! I literally did not put this book down once i started. It completely sucked me in and spat me out the other side. I am super excited to see what happens on book 2!!
