What I very much liked is the fact that this book is not a "eat this to get slim", "get slim fast" type of book. It concentrates a lot on the psychological side of things. It won't give you a diet plan, but more an suggestion towards a healthier way of living and of seeing food for more than calories.

"I thought I should lose weight to be happy, and for the first time I realized that perhaps I had it completely wrong. Maybe I needed to work on getting happy so that I could finally lose the weight."

"Instead of driving ourselves crazy trying to prove our worthiness, why don’t we just decide we are enough, just because we get up every day and try to be better versions of ourselves?! End of story."

"Our negative thoughts are very often illusions falsely presented to us as absolute truths."

"We have to sit down with clarity and decide how we are going to spend our days, or else the days will happen to us, and the result is not one that will ultimately fulfill us."

"You have to be careful when the way you eat becomes part of your identity."

"Remember, your brain doesn’t care if you look great in a bikini; its only job is to keep you alive."

Borrowed this book from the library but had bookmarked so many pages to revisit that I had to buy myself my copy(:
This book is really about feeling good in your body, celebrating it as it is and in recognizing all the good in your body you will want to treat it with love by making healthy choices leading to weight loss.

I like that this book does not tell you how many calories does your pie have, what to eat and what not to eat etc, so if your looking for that kind of book this is not for you. This book addresses issues of a struggling eater, its about root causes and wake up calls. Ending my review with an excerpt from this book

"We think that if we look in the mirror long enough in disgust, it will get us to avoid the bread basket at dinner; but disgust is an uncomfortable emotion, and you know what feels comforting? Warm bread and butter. The reason your punishment tactics don’t work is that deep and lasting change happens only through love, not force. You have to love and respect yourself enough to empower change."

“A clever, engaging, and truthful read.”
— Psychologies

“Pollack says that what most people call ‘comfort foods’ actually make us feel worse, that willpower comes from the energy of fear, that food prison is a state of mind, that the goal shouldn’t be weight loss but learning to love foods that love us back, and that dieting without spiritual tools is utter chaos.”
— Anna Jedrziewski, Retailing Insight

“Finally, a book that takes you past the diets and to-dos, to the heart of the matter of what’s going on inside when it come to loving and nourishing your body and feeling good in it. I really really loved this book. It’s so much more than a “weight loss” book, the title is very apt. Will be picking it up in book form so I can study it closer (read it as an audiobook- the narrator was good!) there are so many good tips and work to do, i can tell I’ll be coming back to it again and again.

Empowering

Really speaks well to those of us that have been on the damaging cycle that is managing weight and stress. Focuses on the mental work, removing “food prisons” and other negative forceful tactics. Focuses on being gentle with ourselves and learning how to motivate with positive loving vibes, not shame and restriction.

This is NOT a diet book! This is a book exploring a mind, body, and soul approach to eating. I picked this up after hearing an interview of Carly Pollack, and even though I'm not looking to lose weight, I gained a lot of insight and thoroughly enjoyed the journaling prompts and mindset tips she shares. This is a must-read for anyone who needs help with their relationship with food.
