Portville Omegaverse #1
His Biggest Secret
Sometimes the biggest secret is the one we keep from ourselves.
Tough beta cop, Mark, wakes one morning with a hangover and some very vague memories of the previous night. One of those memories is something that Mark believes can’t be possible.
He sees a flash in his mind of his best friend, Landon, who also happens to be his partner at work. Someone he’s always had a crush on. The thing that Mark can’t believe is what Landon is doing in that memory. And why Landon doesn’t have any clothes on.
It isn’t until Landon brings up the event that Mark realizes what is happening to him. For the last forty years, young beta men have been turning into omegas. Some as late as their twenties.
Mark is filled with shame when he realizes that's what's happening. He went into heat. He threw himself at his partner. He's now an omega.
And he's carrying Landon’s baby.
Mark’s whole world comes unraveled as he struggles with the changes his body is going through, as well as the changes in his perception of the world around him. He’s no longer the tough beta cop he thought he was, but Mark starts to realize what true strength really is.
His Biggest Secret the first book in the Portville Omegaverse series. It is a friends-to-lovers romance of 37k words with some bad language, hot sexy times, exciting and suspenseful moments, and a super cute baby to cuddle and tickle. It is intended for readers over the age of 18.

🤨???
So many unanswered questions, and nothing mentioned near the end so I’m not sure I can say it’s a cliffhanger. So confused, and story is underdeveloped.

This was an ok read. I got tired of Mark’s attitude. I also thought there was too much inner monologue. Other than those things the story was cute and the Alpha/Omega world was an interesting concept.

I loved this....but it has a few inconsistencies, women haven’t been able to have babies for over 4 decades. Mark has a momma and poppa, although his age isn’t mentioned, he doesn’t seem to be older than 40. Then later on in another chapter Mark has to dads. Not cool. So which is it? It’s not a deal breaker but it is annoying.

Picked this up as a freebie, read it, and immediately went to purchase the next three books. I might have fallen down an MPreg rabbit hole. Help me!!
I've not read this author before, but obviously I've been missing out. Remedying that now.
Last I checked it was still free (11/26/19) so give it a shot.

✔ Letto!
Chi segue questi libri come una fanatica come me, sa che ci sono certe cose che secondo me devono essere rispettate, nei libri devono dire come fanno a partorire i maschi, spiegare bene per evitare che io pensi male... Spinge, spinge! Cosa? Ma il bambino, l'autore non ha specificato da che buco sia uscito. 😵😶😯

4.5 stars. I always want to see more and the birth was very vague as was the pregnancy. I absolutely love Mpreg, but it’s more than a guy having a baby it’s the entire experience!
I will however continue reading this series.
Started 6/30/2021 and finished 7/3/2021. My original review still stands. Plus as far as the crime they were investigating there was zero resolution. Does it continue into the next book(s)?

“You,” he said in his deep, commanding voice, “are the man of my dreams. And I will always be madly in love with you.”
I interested in this book because the blurb totally intrigued me. The idea of a tough beta cop who suddenly changed into an omega really grew curiosity in me. So I decided to pick the book and read it in one sit.
The premise of the story give an impression that the story gonna be 'something'. And it is really start with 'something' that I thought was really good.
Mark's emotional conflicts in facing his sudden change from a beta to an omega and the thought of transforming from a tough beta into 'a second class citizens' for being an omega with all the 'weaknesses' and 'breeding class' stereotypes had put Mark into huge stress.
Afraid of what people will think about him and losing the respect from his colleagues at work make Mark keep denying the fact that he's now an omega and carrying a child from his alpha cop partner, Landon.
While Landon keep showing his care for what happen to Mark and offering his 'help', Mark keep pushing him away and hurt Landon's heart without even knowing that all these years Landon had secretly in love with him.
I love what Landon trying to do to make Mark see the good side from what had happen to him and patiently trying to be on Mark's side during his struggle and confusing moment. He's totally a good alpha with tender heart who can see the bright future for him and Mark can make if Mark could see what he'd seen.
I wish I could 'hate' Mark for his rude behavior to Landon, but I can't. Because can you imagine being in his shoes? Sure, it's definitely not easy to cope. But when he finally can see the good side from all that happen to him and accepted it, things start to changing for both of them.
Well, it's a very rare thing I like this kind of omega-Mpreg-non-shifter story, but I can make exception for this one.
And now I can't wait for Mark's brother, Stephen and Dr. Jake Livingston story. I'm curious what exactly happened between them back then?

I read a lot of omegaverse manga (and some fanfic), but never a novel, so this one was my first.
I liked it, it was short but nice and sweet, focused on the mcs' love story and it shows the mcs grown, Mark's in particular.
I'll keep an eye on this author!

It is okay to be a new version of yourself 👬👮🏻♂️👮♂️👨❤️💋👨👨👨👦
This is such a super quick read. I enjoy the omegaverse. For a very long time I did not understand how males can have babies but the more I read this type of genre the more I understand that certain authors let you know about the nitty gritty and how a male pops out of baby. For me that shows an author understands that they can't just gloss over a major life event.
I am new to Xander Collins and I appreciate all the attention to details that I was given within this book. There are times where this book seemed to not flow properly and places but when it did flow I enjoyed it.
Landon and Mark have been partners at the police station for a very long time. Both of them had feelings for one another but neither of them acted on it until Mark went into heat. I can understand why Mark freaked out and shut Landon out however I felt like he was being a bit melodramatic at times.
Xander did not state that Mark was seeing a doctor for his pregnancy until the very end. I went through this entire book thinking that Mark would be a bad father because he wasn't taking care of himself but that was not the case. I just wish that little detail was mentioned because when an author makes one of the main characters reckless it just makes the reader not like that person. Like I stated before, when an author misses certain details it hurts the over all story however when certain details are added it flowed great and made me happy.
I cannot wait to read more about Stephen, Mark's brother, because I think it is going to be interesting. Also I really wanted to know more about Landon and his background but it is a short read so I understand that a lot of backround information did not happen. I do hope in Stephen's book we do get some type of background when it comes to Jack. We have a vague background when it comes to Stephen but only because of Mark. I really hope that it is dived in more in depth about not only Jack but also Stephen.

Talk about outside the box. I loved the concept of change and how it affected these two. And the little surprise at the end of the rainbow? Just fabulous.
I can say that I will be reading more from Xander Collins. But by jolly I encourage you to check out this author who has come on the scene in omegaverseland and put a whole spin on things. And I feel another story coming on set in this universe, cause hey...that reaction between Mark's brother and Mark's doctor was just too sweet an opportunity to miss.
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.

Highly recommended 💖
This was a great addition to the mpreg genre, the author took a well established genre and introduced a unique element into it. Mark was devastated when everything he thought himself to be was turned upside down but Landon was with him every step of the way. Engaging characters and an interesting storyline made this a page turning read. I'm hoping Stephen and Jake have a book next because I really want to know what happened between them.

This was my third time rereading this book . Once again I had a great time with this novella . Mark and Landon are amazing and really hot men . I love that Landon will do anything for Mark . He really cares about him and Mark is his world . Trevor the baby is so precious. I am excited to read Stephen’s book when I get time to get to it .

So Many Problems
This book has so many problems with both the premise and the details. The following contains *Spoilers *.
Fifty years ago women became sterile and male omegas appeared and only they can have babies. Where do they carry a baby? Did they suddenly grow uteruses? Do they have periods? How can they not be able to tell they are an omega if they have them? How can they have babies without?
How did Mark's mom have him 24 years ago?
Why do they suddenly mention female omegas at the end of the book?
Why are male omegas treated like 2nd class citizens by society? Without them humanity would die out. Why aren't women the ones treated like dirt? They are a genetic dead end. Who would even want to have girl children who could never give them grandchildren?
After the shooting in the warehouse Mark and Landon just leave and go home. Then the next day the chief tells them to go to a robbery in progress. They fight and then Landon takes off without his partner and doesn't see him again all day. I don't know if either of them even went to help save lives at the bank robbery. How do they even keep their jobs if they just leave whenever they feel like it?
Mark tells his brother he will set him up with Landon and then he dodges him for 5 months. They live in the same city. Why would Mark avoid his brother all that time and why would his brother allow it?
How does a newborn giggle when it's tummy is tickled? Has the author ever seen a newborn?
They went from 2 full-time cop saleries(Not the best paid anyway) to one. How do they afford the house with the huge backyard and all the massive amounts of stuff they buy?
And so in and so on...

Interesting concept - 2.5 stars
I think this book had a lot of potential, but needed some more work (and editing) to get it up to par. I loved the world building, however, a lot of the plot contradicted what was said before (did a pandemic make women sterile or not?) and so it threw me out of the story. Then, Mark turned into a whiney omega constantly going back and forth about whether he wanted Landon, so I had difficulty liking his character. If you are looking for a quick summer read, you might like this, but if you want something more substantial in an omegaverse book, this probably isn't for you.

This was just an Ok read. A very short story with underdeveloped characters. I like mpreg, m/m and shifter stories but this one just felt rushed and one dimensional.
I felt the baby delivery method for the male preg was kind of strange, it just read weird to me.
And I'm sorry but I really disliked Mark, the story was short, so I never warmed up to his character who seemed whiney, whimpy and definitely not a macho cop.
I'm not sure if I will read the next in series or not.

No Choice
This is my first book by Xander Collins and the First Book of the Portville series. I enjoyed it immensely. Read it without reading the book's description so I was blown away by what the premise of the book was. How entertaining and such a twist of fate. It was a knife to Mark's heart - a big tough Beta policeman who prided himself on keeping up with the Alphas. He kept his crush on his Alpha partner a secret, but he still admired him greatly. Landon optimized the definition of a man an Alpha who was large, perceptive, kind, but no nonsense when necessary.
When Mark began to recover his memories & then his partner Landon finally told him what happened - he denied it or played off to drunkenness what occurred. When in actuality a momentous thing had happened. He denied it as long as he could, the stomach flu, food poisoning, whatever excuse was handy, until he couldn't anymore. When the cruel realities of his situation could no longer be hidden or denied.
He was a mess figurative & literally and luckily Landon was there to help clean up the mess. His protective and caring Alpha nature made him impervious to all the hurtful actions & words from Mark. He was instrumental in assisting Mark to finally realize that he'd internalized most of the negative stereotypes about Omegas so the thought - shame of transitioning to one was even more traumatizing.
Mark had built such a public image of himself as a self assured Beta who was completely in control of his emotions, he was at his wit's end when he could no longer do so. It was frightening, terrifying to lose control of his careful constricted persona. And the thought of his colleagues - his fellow police officers finding out was even more frightening. Most terrible there was an excellent chance he'd lose a job - a career - he not only enjoyed, but was very good at.
That loss on top of everything else was demoralizing & debilitating. He never imagined himself relegated to the role of baby producer and house husband. He kept so much locked in - still trying to control emotions he wasn't capable of doing anymore. Cracks were appearing in his dam. It was just a matter of time before everything he'd been holding back came crashing out - not a little leak, but a catastrophic bursting of that dam.
Would Landon be able to put the pieces back together? Will Mark allow him? You will really enjoy this mpreg story.

His Biggest Secret (2018) by Xander Collins is a wonderful short read.
The story follows the romance of Mark and Landon who are two cops. Landon is comfortable in his alpha status but Mark is feeling suddenly unsure of whether he is a beta after all and goes on a journey to discover that he is an omega. After a night of passion, Mark becomes pregnant for Landon and feels under pressure to figure out his omega status before he gives birth in two months. Omegas face discrimination and oppression on a regular basis and Mark is scared that he will lose his job and face further bigotry as well as a sense of who he is.
Full disclosure: I know a little bit about alphas, betas and omegas in books but I need to do more research. I get slightly confused. But that doesn’t take away from the book. It is a really good read. I think the writer does actually a very good job of showing what it means to be an alpha, a beta and an omega in the actions of the characters. I like Mark a lot. He has his flaws but I really liked him. He seemed alright and he went through a bad time in much of the book and showed he was a survivor. He had great strength. I didn’t really like Landon. The details of how he got Mark pregnant is dodgy to say the least. Also on a regular basis, I find him very controlling. Now, he’s not all bad. He has many sweet moments where he is looking out for Mark and I liked him in those scenes. But it did feel like I was reading two separate characters but they were the same person. If he changed over time, ok but from one scene to the next, I wasn’t sure which Landon I was getting. We also have a second couple who feature in the book. Stephen, Mark’s brother, runs into his ex Jake again under unexpected circumstances which I won’t spoil. But this book is the first book in the author’s Portville Omegaverse series and the second book is about Stephen’s and Jake’s story. There is a bit of the story at the end of this book to give you an idea of what the book will be like.
The story of Mark’s realisation of who he is and of admitting it to himself is very well-written. You feel like you are on the journey with him and are rooting for him to get the happy ending he deserves. Trevor, Mark’s and Landon’s baby, is adorable and they both are super fathers.
I really liked the book. It was a really enjoyable read.

The first half of this was actually pretty interesting. I liked the premise, the friends-to-lovers setup, and the idea of the omegaverse world. There was definitely potential here, and for a while I was enjoying the story.
But then Mark started to seriously test my patience. 😂
For SO many chapters, he seemed embarrassed, ashamed and almost resentful about becoming an omega and being pregnant. I completely understand that finding out your entire identity and life are changing would be a shock, but the constant whining, internal monologue and back-and-forth about whether he even wanted the baby became exhausting. It honestly felt like he didn’t want the baby or even Landon for most of the book, and then suddenly everything was basically fine towards the end.
I also really struggled with how underdeveloped the world-building was. The premise that women have been unable to have children and that some men are suddenly becoming omegas is actually really interesting, but so many questions are left unanswered. There are also some inconsistencies around Mark’s family and the history of omegas that pulled me out of the story.
The pregnancy itself also felt strangely glossed over. Considering how huge a part of the story it is, I expected more attention to Mark’s health and pregnancy rather than having important details seemingly appear right at the end.
And honestly, I agree with a lot of the other 2-star reviewers: there was too much inner monologue, the characters felt shallow, the story was rushed, and the ending was quite abrupt.
Landon was probably the highlight for me, and I did like the basic concept, but Mark made it very difficult for me to enjoy the second half. I kept waiting for him to pull himself together, and by the time he finally did, the book was basically over.
2 stars because I think there was a genuinely interesting story buried in here, but the execution just didn’t work for me.

I received this book from the author for an honest opinion.
This was a new to me author, but I liked the promise of the the book description so thought I'd give it a go and I'm glad I did, I enjoyed this story.
This story was about Mark who is a tough beta cop, that after a night out is completely unaware of what happened the night before but for the fact he's awoken with aches in unchartered places in his body before.
Landon is an alpha who is friends and partners in the police force who has always had a soft spot for Mark even though he's made it abundantly obvious that he doesn't date alphas. After Mark goes into heat suddenly and they mate, it leads to a spiral of confusion, sadness, anger and embarrassment.
The story is set in the world where after females were left infertile due to an unexplained anonymity, males have evolved to carry on the species by being able to have children. Betas can up until there late twenties evolve into omegas though they don't know why and Mark seems to be in this category.
This book was sweet and I enjoyed the flow of writing as well as getting the prospective point of view from both characters. This book had a crime mystery plot of clinics being targeted and vandalised though it's more just a passing mention, and instead the book was mostly centred on the character's relationship and coming to terms with past expectations and now. I'm hoping it will explain more in later books of who these arsonists are and why they are doing these crimes. This book explored the feelings and grievances of having your life being turnt around and how you expected life to pan out while it zooms off in another direction. I liked the character's and there happy ever after and am looking forward to the next story.

His Biggest Secret by Xander Collins is a pretty good read. It does have a few problems and for me, that took away from the overall experience of reading this one. I do feel I would pick up more from this author, there is potential here just it is overdone. There are places the author needed to move on from and seemed rather stuck. However overall a decent read. Liked it very much.
Mark is a beta and a cop. He is a little too much tied up in his social standing. When he turns into an Omega and get pregnant well he does not take it well. Not only does he have a self-image problem, but he has a problem with his baby’s dad… his work partner and best friend Landon.
Landon might be Alpha but he does not act like a typical overbearing male. He is a cop with mad respect for Mark and all he has accomplished. He has been in love with him for a long time and it shows.
I felt Mark really had some identity issues that kept the story a bit on the stuck side for me. I get he would have them but his back and forth attitude was hard.
I also have a problem when Omega and Alpha terms are used with no explanations of what they mean to the world they are in. I have no clue what it means to this world other than Omega’s can carry children. I would have liked more world building and explanation to how the world works.
The ending to this story saved it for me super sweet and I LOVED it so much. Overall would love to see more from this author in the future and see more happy endings.

I absolutely loved this book it had a uniqueness to it that made it a captivating book with some different ideas that gave it a refreshing and enjoyable read. The writing was great and the plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. Although it did leave me with a few questions. A couple in which I hope will be answered in a sequel. I found the story and characters charming. The characters were developed and thought out. Landon and Mark are the MC’s of this book. There was humor, police, arsonists, a pregnancy, changes, a brother, hiding, emotions and so much more in this book. There is a part at the end about last names that I love.
Here is a quote from the book, “As I stood there and watched the water spiral around in the sink and down the drain, I realized that what I really wanted, more than anything in the world, was for Landon to come up behind me and wrap his arms around me. I wanted that big, hulking alpha to make it all better. But how could I ask him to do something like that when it had never been apart of our relationship?”. There is more but you will need to read the book which I can highly recommend. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

The blurb attracted me to this one, but sadly, it fell short of the mark.
What I did like:
Transitioning of Betas to Omegas. This could've been so interesting with background and world-building, but very little information is given to the back story.
What I struggled with:
The timeline was completely out - if woman were sterile 50 years ago and that prompted omega-change, how did Mark's mother have him 24 years ago?? And what was that scrap of idly tossed information about female omegas right at the end?? - are woman on the decline? Do female omegas not reproduce too? Is this turning to an all-male world? Why are omegas treated so appallingly in society? Only being able to work in certain jobs, looked down on? Not treasured - without them, the population would screech to a halt!! Mark's brother - what was that all about??
What I didn't like:
Mark. He was whiney. OMFG, he was so whiney!! Going from a tough Beta cop to an Omega seemed like the worst fate ever! He moaned about everything and even joined in the belittling of omegas and had several tantrums about it....really? Just no.
I know this was a novella read, but it felt rushed, not enough world-building was given and the characters seemed to be shallow and underwhelming. Sadly, not for me.

I love this book and the new take on the Mpreg genre. It is well-written with great characters and the world building is excellent. In this world women are no longer able to have children and only male omegas can get pregnant. There are also men that appear to be betas when they are young but end up being omegas as they get older. Mark realizes that everything he thought about himself and the rest of society is wrong when he presents as an omega at twenty-four. He is in turmoil and tries to push away his best friend Landon who is an alpha. They have always been attracted to each other but never pursued a relationship outside of being partners at work and friends. Now after a crazy night of hot sex with Landon Mark discovers that he is pregnant. Landon wants to make a family with Mark but he has to be patient while Mark comes to grips with his new reality. This is an action packed and entertaining love story. I can't wait to read more books by Xander Collins.
I was given ARC to review by the author.

New parts, not a new person
A very well rounded story about coming to terms with change and embracing it. Mark has been a beta since high school when he tested, but as he always believed his family and society wanted alphas, he has been tough like one. As a cop he is tough as nails and relies only on his partner, Landon, an alpha. Then one night Mark goes into heat with Landon; it turns out he has turned omega and now everything is changing.
Mark really has to work with thisn change. When he hears he is an omega, he foresees many changes, none of them good. Being an omega can only mean being a weak, subservient, second class citizen. He'll lose his job, his friends, and the respect of Landon. But these fears are based on misconceptions and societal preconceptions, both of which he has to take a lot of time to work through. Mark realizes some of his own prejudices, as well as things he has hidden for many years. Now is the chance to change, but change doesn't come easy. This book is a journey that Mark and Landon take together, a lovely read.

A Good Read
I didn't like two things about this book which why got 4 star. First for over half of the book Mark got on my nerves. He had one idea how omegas where and used that to go by how things would go when was found out He was pregnant. He was wrong of course, but it irritated me how negative he was. It was like he didn't want to ever have a child with Landon if it meant he had to be n omega. That opinion changed by the end, but drive me nuts.
The second thing hated was mentioning breastfeeding. Hate it altogether and I'm female.
After Mark pulled his head out of his rear it got better. I wished there was more actual sex scenes though. It would have been better with them and more time with baby Trevor. Landon is a wonderful man and best friend. I loved that by end they got married.
This book had a twist on the alpha beta omega world. Only men could have babies which was another twist. An epidemic made all women sterile after certain year. One these days be nice read Mark brother's Stephan book.

Holy Cow! I freaking loved this book it started out so intense then it got funny and loving. I adore the chemistry between the main characters and found myself wanting to know everything about Mark's brother.
Character breakdown;
Mark: I didn't think I would have found a more frustrating omega than this one lol. Even if he had started out beta and misinformed and shit lol. Eventually though he grew on me and I understood his reasons well enough to excuse him for it.
Landon: an alpha not so alpha? What!? Lol I liked Landon he was fun and so loving towards Mark no matter how hard the omega pushed him away. He stuck by and tried again and again, Landon is definitely one of those book boyfriends lol.
Favorite Quote: "I love you, Landon", I said as I felt him whipping the come off my stomach. "But where's that lo mein" -Mark (lol)
Loved this book can't wait to read the next one in the series!
