The Pickup is coming February 2019!

~ Synopsis~
Somebody once said we don’t decide who we love. The world decides for us. But I disagree.

I believe love is a decision.
Who we love, how we love.
It’s in our control--in our hands.

I grew up having no clue about the true meaning of love. Money. Cars. Houses. Status. Fame. That’s what love means to the people around me.

It wasn’t until the woman I picked up in a bar came back into my life and showed me love can be so much more.

So, what’s the problem?
The woman I’m falling in love with believes in fairytales. She compares everything to a storybook and wants the happily-ever-after.

So while she’s stuck on recreating stories that have already been told, page by page, I’m showing her it’s time we write our own book.

Nobody ever said the journey of falling in love would be easy, just that it would be worth it.

Welp... Nikki has done it again! She gave me yet another favorite read. Not that I'm surprised. I'd probably read the woman's chore list, and give it 5 stars. Her books just do it for me.
The Pickup is a sweet second chance romance, that will just make your heart happy. Nick's a pro ball player, who's coming into his own when he meets Olivia in a club. Both know that their chemistry is off the charts, but both give false names to conceal their identities. After a hot as hell one night stand, whoopsie!... Liv runs out, and Nick yet again feels completely rejected.
The Pickup is low drama with a whole lot of heart. It's one of those easy reads that keep a smile on your face. I obviously adored it, and I would recommend it to everyone I know.

Nikki Ash is my go to author and I am happy to say she delivered another touchdown with this book! I am so in love with this book and characters! Nicholas Shaw will make you fall in love with him, even when you’re mad at him for being a typical guy. He’s a sweet, sexy football player who has had a heartbreaking history with love (in any form of it). And Olivia Harper, our female lead, is a hopeless romantic who refuses to settle for less and who could blame her for that! The chemistry between Nick and Olivia is sizzling as they try to figure out if it’s ok to go after what they want vs “what is right”. It’s impossible not to get completely hooked by the other people in this story and Nikki Ash leaves us desperate to hear their story! Another fantastic 5 stars for this author!

A one night stand.
An exchange of names which may or may not be right.
She believes in fairytales and happily ever afters
He believes love is a decision.
Olivia and Nick hook up after meeting in a bar. Unfortunately he left something behind neither one of them expected. An accidental meeting has them coming face to face again, will she make him see fairytales are for everyone, Or will he follow the path of money and fame? Nikki Ash once again captures your attention with this story from page one. Olivia, Nick and all their friends will keep you entertained and begging for more.

DNF at 37 % . I can’t believe it took me that long to DNF it. It’s like I knew it was terrible but I’m just trying to get through it. What kind of fairytale nonsense is this. Usually I’m screaming that the females in the book need a backbone - not that Olivia had one , it was barely there. Nick on the other hand was annoying me - he didn’t want his parents controlling his life but yet there they were controlling it. It started off when he’s in college so it makes sense , he still wants to prove himself to his parents but then literally after the first chapter we fast forward and the guy is 30 and still trying to impress his parents like why ? And don’t get me started on how immature he acts and the rude comments he makes. Yea this is a no for me.

CUTE. But the OW had me FUMING. I personally thought what she did was UNFORGIVABLE and I HATE the way it was handled.

I gave this book a chance because reviews were saying by the end they didn't mind the OW and were excited for her book (I adore a redemption story) so I thought she'd win me over but that did NOT happen. I'm clearly in the minority here so don't come after me.

See detailed spoilers below or TLDR here:

So it took me a while to warm up to Nick. I was really wondering how he was going to dig himself out of the hole he drilled himself into. He basically accused Olivia of being a liar/whore then called her a gold digger. But I tried to put myself in his shoes. He's been burned in the past by not only his exes but own parents too. He was neglected so naturally, he doesn't think parenting is for him.

Plus, he was truly upset when Olivia left the next morning bc he was so into her. So when they run into each other's he's anything but graceful. And while his response was harsh, I totally get it. He's a pro athlete and knew this girl for one night, it's not outlandish that he'd question the paternity. I think he 1000% could've done this more respectfully and he didn't have to repeat over and over how much he did NOT want to be a parent, but as the story progress it was all rooted in fear and trauma. While that's no excuses, most people would have time to process that they are about to be a dad but he did not. I loved that he started watching Disney movies and taking notes to be a better partner for Olivia and father to Reed haha.

Olivia. I adored Olivia. She's richer than Nick and Celeste for starters, but that's not why I love her. I do love that fact that they can't accuse her of gold digging. She was so sweet and SELFLESS and really deserved the world. She was way too nice. If anyone acted the way Nick and Celeste acted while I was giving birth, I would've done something violent.

She was an amazing mama and had an amazing support system between her dad and Giselle. Motherhood agreed with her and despite the obstacles Nick threw at her, she pushed on and knew she was going to be fine with or without him. She accepted with her head held high that if she had to be a single mom, then so be it. Did she have body betraying syndrome? Yes. But whatever we're not all perfect haha.

More on OW aka the garbage can that is Celeste because I have shit to say:

Another top favorite of 2019! Must-read author!

I recently discovered Nikki Ash and have been obsessed ever since. She’s become one of my favorite authors. Everything she writes is amazeballs and this book was no different!

I FLOVED it so much that I read it in one sitting! I won’t give spoilers, just know it’s not an overly dramatic storyline. 😉I loved Nick and Olivia.😍 I’m sad the book ended, but I’m very excited for Killian & Giselle’s book. I’m also hoping the author writes a book for Celeste.

4.5 Sexy Stars*****
Very sexy, and entertaining as hell. Can a one night stand turn into a fairytale or a nightmare? Read this book and find out. I highly recommend it.

Sports themed plot, low angst, great writing style and very sexy chemistry between the characters. I also enjoyed the secondary characters very much, and I’m very happy to find out that there’s more to come in this series.

I've read a few other Nikki Ash books and figured I'd start this series.
I'm not finishing this series.

This starts out with Nick in college playing football and finding out his girlfriend is cheating on him. Shortly after finding this out, he makes a pact with his best friend, who happens to be an unapologetic gold-digger (own it, I guess?): if he's still single by the time he's 30, he'll marry her and accept that love is irrelevant in the face of money.
Skip ahead ten years, he's still struggling when it comes to love and after a one night stand and intervention from his coach, Nick decides to follow through on the pact he made with Celeste.
Skip ahead another 9 months and he finds out he's gonna be a daddy.

So, from the start of the book, my opinion of Nick is already pretty low. To me, he came of as a little bit of a whiney lil' b*tch. Sorry (but I'm not). Then he finds out Olivia is pregnant and what little I liked him went down the toilet. Like seriously, that is probably the douche-iest response I've read where a guy finds out he knocked someone up. And the idiot just could. not. shut. his mouth.
He just kept making it worse and worse. At this point I'm secretly hoping the his best friend, Killian, falls in love with Olivia. OR Nick gets hit by a bus, Olivia moves on and finds her a different guy.
Alas, that does not happen. sorry folks.

Aaaand it only got worse from there. He was so damn oblivious to everything. I'm sorry, but no one is that stupid.

Anyhoo. Nick was just an idiot. Nothing swoon worthy about him. I was half tempted to just skip all of his chapters altogether.

I'm still kind of regretting not actually skipping them.

So, then we have Olivia, the h. I liked her... and then I didn't.
After his response to her showing up 9 months pregnant, I would've been like "bye Felicia," thrown up the peace sign and left him to be the asshole he clearly was.
What does Olivia do you ask? She marvels over how handsome and how attracted she still is to him and has her internal debate over what her heart feels and what her head is saying.
Umm. NO. The way Nick spoke to her when she was at her most vulnerable was unacceptable and I guess a hard line for me.
So, I stopped liking her and saw her as a weak doormat heroine which is my kryptonite. Can't stand that shit.

Anyways. The only character in this book that wasn't terrible was Reed. He was an infant.

I'm ranting at this point and no one wants to read my angry jabbering about why this book left me annoyed for wasting however long it took me to read it and now I'll get more rec's for books from this author or books Amazon deems as 'similar,' which sucks... for me.

I'm done.

3 ⭐⭐⭐ - OK decent reads
======================
Great Review Here

“No, I mean what do you want in order for me to sign over my rights? How much? You’re right, I don’t want to be a dad.” My heart breaks when he says this.

“It’s all over social media! Do you not understand how bad this looks? And I’m your fiancée! A phone call to let me know would’ve been nice.”

“I don’t want or need your money, and if you don’t want to be this baby’s father then I don’t want you to be. If you want a paternity test, fine. I know he’s yours. Now both of you…get out.”

After I was told I needed to settle down, figuring I had nothing to lose, I called up Celeste and agreed to go through with our pact. At least with her, I knew what I was getting myself into. A business arrangement. We dated for a couple months and then announced our engagement. Celeste let the lease on her apartment go and moved in with me once I purchased a place in Lower Manhattan near the stadium—and directly above Killian.

Celeste wanted to make sure we were both on the same page. She told me she didn’t want to have kids and I agreed.

“She probably wants to trap you.” “Did you not see her in the hospital? She can barely stand to be in the same room as me.” “Then she’s doing it for the money,” Celeste states. “I don’t think so,” I say honestly. “She said she doesn’t want my money.” “There you go being all naïve once again.” “I’m not being naïve,” I argue.

“Yeah, okay, Nick. We both know you think with your heart. It won’t be long until you’ve ditched me to play house with your baby mamma.”

“All I want to do is find out if that little boy is my son.” “And what if he is, Nick? What then? What will that mean for us?” “I’m not breaking off our engagement,” I tell her.

Celeste was right in that regard. The tabloids and gossip rags are all talking, and none of it is projecting me in a positive light.

Celeste may think I’m going to end up with Olivia, but she’s wrong. Olivia chose to walk away that morning after. She’s one of the reasons I agreed to the pact with Celeste in the first place. No emotions.

If he’s filed because he wants to be a dad, I’m going to have to share my son…our son with him—as well as with his soon-to-be wife.

“My dreams are finally coming true.” She looks at me with a watery smile, and before I even know what’s happening, her mouth crashes into mine. I back up quickly, confused. “What are you doing?” “Kissing my fiancé,” she says, hurt evident in her tone. “Since when?” I ask.

“Do you not understand how bad this all looks, Nick? You’re going to be raising another woman’s baby.” “No…I’m going to be raising my baby.” “That you had while engaged to me!” “No,” I repeat. “He was created before us. He was born while engaged to you.” “Everything is about to be destroyed.”

“You’re my fiancée.” “Exactly! So can we maybe…try for real?” She gets up from the bed and approaches

Letting go of my cock, I feel a sense of relief for about a minute, until it hits me that I just got off to the visual of Olivia, the mother of my son, the woman who isn’t my fiancée. And with that thought comes the sobering realization that this engagement isn’t going to last.

What I’d like to know is what your baby daddy is doing here and not at home with his fiancée.”

All my life I watched my mom and dad live in a fairytale. I imagined one day I would have that. Instead, I’m a single mom with a baby by a man who’s engaged to another woman.

“He’s a freaking pro football player who’s engaged to a gorgeous, successful supermodel. I bet they jet off on his days off to the Caribbean or some shit. Nick probably lives an extravagant, over-the-top life while I prefer mine to be more…low key. Sure, right now he says he wants to be a better parent to Reed than his were to him, but that’s only because Reed is like a shiny new toy. Once Nick gets bored of playing dad, I’ll be the one who is left to pick up the pieces of our son’s heart when I have to explain to him why his father doesn’t want him.”

Important information....

ITS A NIKKI ASH BOOK!!!

That's all you really need to know, right?! Nothing else really matters. Plain and simple. Lol

Ok, I guess you want more!! Geez, greedy boogers!!

So this book is about the guy, trying get the girl. Said guy is Nicolas Shaw and said girl is Olivia Harper. Or was the girl Celeste? I WILL NEVER TELL!!!

Either way, no matter who he was chasing, or should I say picking up.. 😉...Nick was clueless the whole damn time. I loved him, he was awesome, when he wasn't being an asshole that is. Haha

The girl...she was something fierce. She was determined. She was everything a good female character should be. I instantly wanted to become her best friend.

Now the other female who was mentioned above, I hated. I wanted to slap, punch, kick, and maul her. But now that I'm done with the book, MAYBE...and that's a HUGE MAYBE...I might of KINDA been too tough on her.

I loved this book, plan and simple. It made my heart melt. It made my blood boil. It made me smile. It made me laugh. This book, I couldn't get enough of. Now I need the next book, and the next. I can't wait to read the next ones in this series.

I was instantly hooked. Which shouldn't surprise me, because like I said...its a Nikki Ash book. Its amazaballs...plain and simple!! I love her mind. I love her words. I love the worlds she creates. She always leaves me in my feels, both good and bad. I can't get enough of her!

The Pickup is the first in a new series by Nikki Ash and will leave you completely caught up and wanting more. The characters in this story are absolute perfection. This story will have you swooning and praying for fairytales to come true.

Also, with that extended epilogue, I don’t know how I’m going to wait until April for The next stand-alone!

Why is it so difficult for me to find 4-5 stars books?😭🙃
But this one is totally my fault, I should've left it. So... here we go again.
This was just bad and frustrating AF. It kept me entertained the first haft of the book, but it was bad...

description

The writing wasn't great, I felt no chemistry whatsoever between Nick and Liv, and idk but everything felt incomplete... bland drama maybe?

I hate Nick for not doing anything before about his parents, I know, I know they are his parents yara yara yara. NO. Those people were not parents, horrible human beings that only care about themselves and what other people think about them. Not once they were good to Nick.

Liv and Nick. Plain characters to me.
I liked Nick's coach aka Liv's father.
I want to know if it is just me because I am in the minority here.

description

Again, I was really entertained at first, even when I knew it wouldn't work for me, foolishly thinking I might like it. The other half of the book? not even entertaining, just bad.

Another book in the -I should have dnf it, but i am dumb enough not to do it- shelf.

That's it for this episode of Mila ranting about another failed book.

Por esto es que releo mucho los libros de siempre, mis libros seguros, los fieles que nunca fallan... Buscando oro me tendre que topar con mucha trash. it is what it is.

5 Stars!
I am so in love with this author. Nikki Ash writes another home run with this amazing book!

Once again I am blow away with how much I enjoyed another one of Nikki Ash’s books. I have read many of her books and have never been disappointed. Her writing has every aspect that makes a perfect book for me. From the very beginning I am hooked and her characters have been some of my all time favorites. For me this author has given me the most amount of book boyfriends than any other. Her heroes are sexy and alphas with a softer side that makes me swoon even more. Another aspect I love about her characters is that they have flaws, are relatable and her premises are believable. You will not be disappointed if you read her books, I promise. If you are already a fan, than you know what I mean.

The hero in The Pick Up is flawed for sure, but not by his own making. Nick has had everything given to him growing up, but his life has been full of stipulations forced on him by his parents. Nick let himself be manipulated by them because he hoped it would make them love him. My heart broke for Nick. All he wanted in his life was to be loved for himself and not for status. Nick all but gives up until Olivia blows into his life. Their road to happily ever after is not an easy one. Trust will have to be earned. To be honest I’m glad that Nick and Olivia didn’t move too fast.

Without giving anything away, I'll tell you there is a bit of angst and Nick’s parents are antagonists that you want to stomp on. But in the end all is well and everyone gets what they deserve.

We get a brief teaser of what’s to come in the next book. Thankfully that will be out in April. Nikki, you just keep these amazing books coming!

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. :)

This was a win in my book.
I was hooked from the beginning.

The Pickup is another great book by Nikki Ash! Nick and Olivia’s story gives readers all the feels! After a one night stand and a note- that’s all- Nick feels connected to Liv but doesn’t think he will see her again! When they finally meet up again in the most unexpected way- their story begins from there and he wants to create “new chapters” to their story!
Nick is a great character- complex, caring, wanting to make everyone happy but has lost himself along the way! Olivia- I love her- she wants the fairytale. She’s loyal, caring, wants to take care of those around her!
Their journey is filled with other amazing characters who I loved. Core friendships which is so important in life. Nikki Ash does such an amazing job developing a story, making you fall in love with her characters and making you want more!! A great read!!
