ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BOOK : Before We Were Yours weaves a compelling tale of politics, scandal, adoption, and love, spanning the years from 1939 to modern times. Vulnerable yet ultimately strong Southern female characters who come from several generations hold the story together, and the mystery behind how their lives intertwine keeps the reader turning pages. Although elements slowly unfurl and leave the reader questioning and perhaps solving part of the mystery, it is not until the very end that all aspects are brought to a satisfying and emotional conclusion. Former journalist and now multiple bestselling novelist Lisa Wingate turns truthful and painful historical events into a novel that explores love and family in an intriguing way, while paying tribute to the unfortunate children and their parents who suffered through this scandalous and dark time in American adoption.

for the audiobook. An amazing story blending historical fact with a mystery of a political family and their aging matron suffering from dementia let's slip a possible embarrassing family secret. As they investigate they uncover a tie to a major scandal of depression era children harvested by an infamous orphanage and brokered to rich and powerful patrons.

A jaw dropping and sad read. Well worth it, though.
