The Outer Limits Retrospective is an intriguing look at the 1960s classic science-fiction television anthology series. Author Thomas Baxter does an episode by episode review of the series, providing cast and crew information, opening narrations, plot summaries, and analyses. And as a bonus, he covers several films of the Outer Limits creative team Joseph Stefano, Leslie Stevens, and Byron Haskin; including War of the Worlds, Psycho, and Robinson Crusoe on Mars. As with most independent publications, it’s full of grammatical errors (but nothing too egregious). Yet Baxter has a unique voice that comes through in his writing and his passion for the series is infectious; though it does blind him at times to the quality of the episodes (which is kind of what you want from a fan). While it’s not extensively researched or goes into too much depth, The Outer Limits Retrospective is a light and entertaining guide that will help one appreciate this often overlooked television series that influenced and inspired science-fiction shows for genertations.
