It’s spring, and yet private detective, Mimi Capurro, still hasn’t faced the proposal she received from homicide detective, Nick Christianson, at Christmas. She knows she should be making plans, but business is good, and she’s short an investigator. She’ll think about it later. Just as things are getting on track, Mimi’s mom brings a case to Gotcha Detective Agency. Lydia’s good friend was found dead in her car almost two weeks earlier, and the police ruled it a suicide. Both Lydia and the victim’s husband think the police are wrong. While Mimi and Lydia investigate, Charles has an investigation of his own. One he’s not sharing with the Gotcha crew. Do Mimi and Nick have a future together, or will Charles’s investigation change their lives forever?
USA Today bestselling author, Jamie Lee Scott, loves killing people, ehem, writing a good mystery. When she’s not writing novels, she’s writing screenplays and making indie films. Her first produced screenplay can be seen on DirecTV’s ShortsHD channel. No One Knows is an “Editor’s Choice” on the channel for short films. Jamie lives on a farm with her husband, two dogs, two cats, and three horses. Aside from writing, Jamie is a competitive barrel racer.
I absolutely love the Gotcha Detective Agency books. They just get better as they go. Although this one had more of a cozy feel to it than the others.
Mimi and her agency is going through multiple changes. She has agreed to marry Nick, but is doing everything she can to delay it. Cortnie has left the agency as she is on bed rest during the last of her pregnancy. And Mimi replaces Cortnie whit a former cop who she was extremely jealous of.
Lydia brings a new case and throws a severe hissy fit when Mimi tells her she can't have the lead. It's a suicide that the husband insist is a murder.
There are lots of laughs, several Red Herrings in the story, and lots of distraction to keep Mimi off her game. Also a great ending.
The characters make this series one I look forward to reading! Oddly, Mimi is my least favorite though she is the centerpiece of the story. Charles is full of intrigue & Nick is a smart, tough homicide detective with the patience of Job. Anyone who can put in the hours his work requires & still be patient & loving to the impatient, selfish, insecure, workaholic Mimi adds a lot to the flow of the story. Wild but not unexpected ending as clues were left leading up to the final act! Definitely a Gotcha!
I’ve read them all except the last one and I’m about to read it. I love the characters and the plots. The amount of snark is just right considering the murders in this series are so dark, it just makes them palatable. Read and enjoy, I plan to take a look at what else Ms. Scott has written, she’s done a great job with this series I haven’t been able to put them down, just binge read them all.
What an awesome book! The plot was definitely intriguing as were the subplots! I really enjoyed how Mimi & Charles take turns telling the story from their perspective. The ending, both of them, btw, was phenomenal!
Excellent as ever! So much is going on in Mimi's life and at work. A suicide investigation just doesn't make sense but that doesn't slow Mimi down. A new but familiar face graces the detective agency and it looks like a good fit. A good as the book it, it is the triple whammy ending that will keep it in the readers mind for a long, long time.
