An elite tactical unit is chosen from the most expendable source in the Empire for a rescue mission against a virtually unknown enemy, as well as a known one. Set deep in the Orion Nebula, TIAF: Unit Zodiac is Military Science Fiction meets Space Western with a sense of humor.
I am a Geek. I've been a Geek for nearly 50 years. I am a Writer. I write Science Fiction and Urban Supernatural...among other things. I am a student. I am a Graduate Student University of North Texas and working on my Doctorate in Ancient History. I am married to Santa Claus...no, really...*smile* I have 6 amazing children and 1 phenomenal grandson and about 100+ "Kids" that I love very much. I believe in everyone's right to love who they want to love, be who they want to be, live how they want to live, and make their own choices about their life. Your life is not my life...therefore, your life is not mine to judge. Just as my life is not yours to judge. And...I agree with Gandhi: "BE the change that you want to see in the world."
There are at least three (3) more books in the TIAF universe - two of which are Unit Zodiac. The other is not. There are so many stories that can be drawn from this open ended universe that I likely haven't even touched on a full percentage point of them!
I hope you enjoy the stories that I want to share with you.
I will say that I have known Cat for a few years, but I paid retail price for this book. I'm going to give an honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters were well-written and well-developed, with their own quirks and shortfalls. The characters are Forgotten soldiers, who forged a bond based on the shared hell they lived through. They are brought together for a mission to rescue some VIPs, serving the very Empire that ignored them and forgot them. Forced align to stop them from completing their mission. Politics and intrigue are present.
Overall, I did quite enjoy the book. The first edition that I bought had a few minor formatting issues. My only concern was a bit of the pacing of the chapters. Some felt way too short, and a few drug on a bit longer than I anticipated. But the plot was great, the characters well developed, and I enjoyed the time I spent reading the book.
To start with let it be known I have known Cat for many years. This book was bought by me, though.
The story is set in a interesting universe, with room for many stories. The hints of the wider universe that is given in this action filled tale, lend a foundation.
This one follows a military unit sent to rescue VIPs.
Anyone who has been in or with military units will see at least one person they recognize, in spirit if not deed.
Good characters and a well-told tale! It's refreshing to read Sci-fi that's complete all in one book. There's a rich universe waiting to be explored in any future books but this one stands alone and does so well.
