Meghan Truman owns and runs a bakery called Truly Sweet in Sandy Bay. Her best friend, Jackie runs a salon. Jackie has developed an money obsession by wanting to have her salon cater to the rich and famous Jackie arranges for a fancy spa retreat asking Meghan to supply the deserts for the retreat. Everyone at the retreat loves the bakery’s King Cakes. Then there is a death. A murder. Add muggings to the mix and Meghan has her hands full investigating what is happening. An uniquely plotted cozy with well defined, creatively crafted characters. This is book # 11 in the Sandy Bay Mystery series. It can be read as a stand alone.
When Jack's away at a training conference in NOLA, all heck breaks out in Sandy Bay with random muggings going on as well as the murder of a well-liked woman. But Meaghan proved that she could take it on, although I know she always prefers to have Jack there as backup and support, and she was just plain missing her guy. Sally Sheridan is always full of surprises, and this book had a good one!
The showdown was good and fairly non-dangerous for Meaghan who was hoping to prove the mugger and killer were one and the same. As a little side story, Meaghan and Jackie were at bit at odds this time due to Jackie's new obsession with money and making her salon the one that rich people flock to, but it didn't take much for her to realize she was wrong. These books are always sweet and always good, clean fun, but sometimes there are some really good personal messages about people in general and friendship, which is what has me coming back to spend time with these characters that are now like old friends!
King Cake and Grave Mistakes (Sandy Bay Cozy Mystery Book 11), my 11th read from author Amber Crewes. Well-written & enjoyable. another cute, clean cozy mystery. At 3-hours 15-minutes, longer than the previous books in the series. I really enjoy the development of the supporting characters over the course of the series. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. I was impressed and enjoyed the vocal variety & inflections of narrator Elena Marino who has become the voice for Meghan Truman. I look forward to reading more in this series & from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
An average cozy mystery with some downfalls and some fun points. King Cakes and Grave Mistakes doesn’t really stand out.
Of course, there is the usual pitfalls of the series such as names all the time (we already know who you’re talking about) and the super-fast pace. There was also the standard took one less and can beat people up scenario.
For good points is that while the murderer is obvious, the lead up and the general story is fun to read. There were points in which multiple characters are interacting and the interplay seems natural.
Overall, while not outstanding it is also not a bad read. The problem is it doesn’t stand out and feels a little forced.
Jack goes out of town for training. Meghan dives into work to pass the time. Their is a mugger running around town and he eventually attacked Meghan. With the help of Jack’s dog she fends him off. In the mean time she works with a web designer to remake the bakery image. His sister hires her to do desserts for a friends event. Then the sister is murdered. Meghan jumps into the investigation and solves it with a surprise ending.
After a spa day one woman ends up dead. Was it murder or a mugging gone wrong? Between bites of king cake the murder is solved. This cozy mystery has no swearing or sex, hinted at or explicit. Peopled with realistic characters that can be swayed by money and status. I was gifted this from the author.
This was an enjoyable, quick read. The small town of Sandy Bay has its share of crime, in this case, mugging and murder. Meghan will have to find out if the criminals are one and the same while Jack is out of town on a training course. A fun read with wonderful characters.
Meghan has made a name for herself in this small, coastal town, as the owner of aAmber Cr successful bakery. Providing baked treats to a girl's spa day for a friend, she is once again thrown into another murder that she needs to solve. Amber Crewes has done it again!
I listened to the audio book. The narrative was like a book written for Jr. High. Very immature. The plot was transparent and the characters were two dimensional. Why would someone go out at night alone when they know there is a mugger about? Why would they do it twice? Just silly.

This is my first 'Sandy Bay' mystery, but is the 11th in the series. I suspect that that series is best read in order so that the characters become more familiar to me. I plan to read the first in the series as my next one.
Another great short read. Meghan and her friend Jackie are hired to provide their services for a high profile event. Tensions elevate amongst the women at the event. A must read if you enjoy Meghan"s adventures.
When I started this I did not realize it was part of a series but its easily read as a standalone. I Liked the characters and the plot of the story , I would read the read of the series .
Jackie, Meghan's friend, owns a salon, and she is asked to have a pampered night for a celebrity and her friends. After the pampered night, one of the guests is found dead outside of the hotel where the event took place. Amber Crewes tells the story to keep your attention to see what will happen next. Read this story to see how it unfolds. Happy reading! 😊
Meghan gets a big break to supply desserts to a fancy spa retreat in town. However a murder takes place outside the hotel where the event is taking place. Muggers may have been responsible. Meghan is missing Jack, who is out of town and he's frustrated that he can't get home to provide help and support when she needs it.
This in another in the series that is well loved. The characters are great and the story is a well told cozy mystery.
This book is suitable for young adults and up.
I listened to the audio version of the book, that is also available as a 3 story version. The narrator does a great job.
