“The main theme of the Bible is Christ. He’s the hero of the story because His sacrifice on the cross provided salvation for mankind. The ‘scarlet thread’ of redemption is interwoven through the entire story and can be seen in the many accounts of biblical history that tell His story.”

“The Old Testament anticipated the New. The two testaments are like pieces of a puzzle that fit together perfectly…the New is in the Old contained, and the Old is in the New explained; the Old predicts and anticipates the New, and the New reveals the mystery and wonder of the Old. It takes the whole text of Scripture to complete our understanding of God’s plan of redemption—to see the entire tapestry through which the scarlet thread is woven.”

“A deeper knowledge of the scarlet thread of redemption provides the perfect remedy for apathy. At His first coming, Jesus came in peace as a sacrificial Lamb to take away the sin of the world. When He returns, He will come as a Lion to execute wrath and judgement, make war on His enemies, and rule and reign forever. Living with the awareness of God’s ultimate plan of redemption for the world, we can see, looking around us, that the Lion of the tribe of Judah is on the move. And because Scripture shows us the ultimate end to which the whole world is moving, there’s no better time than now to step forward, speak up, and tell everyone you know that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and through Him, you can go to heaven.”

Heitzig tells the big story of atonement in his easy going ways by drawing on each of the 66 books in the Bible. And he does all that in less than 300 pages! I think the work was hampered by the low page count challenge. But if you must get all that in a short book, then this is the one for you.

I absolutely loved the detailed explanation of the bloodline of Jesus. So many times attempts were made to extinguish it. It came so close and down to one baby that was hidden away. God truly does triumph over the forces and principalities of the unseen and seen evil. We can see it in recent history with the Nazis and now with Islam still vowing to wipe God’s chosen people off the face of the earth. We know how this ends. Fascinating read.

While I normally like Skip's views on the old testament, here they seemed to drag. The new testament offered more insight for me. Maybe it was just something in the new testament that I needed to hear. Definitely would recommend nd this to anyone who is interested in bible stories and how they could all connect.

A wonderful book that ties Jesus Christ's redemptive work all the way through the Bible, old testament and new testament both. If you have an interest in how Jesus's redemptive work is seen throughout the Bible, this is the book for you. AKA the scarlet thread of redemption.

Great read. It is easy to understand and opens your eyes to the prevalent theme in the Bible. Of course, as a Christian, we have a head knowledge of these things, but our heart knowledge is sometimes lacking and our understanding is as well. Skip Heitzig presented the information in a clear way.

Very interesting and informative. A lot of this I had heard before, but never all laid out together like this. Plus there was some new information for me. I listened to it this time, but think I will need to actually read through it again to really catch it all.

A really great Bible overview for me. Lists verses throughout the Bible to focus on, reminders of basic truths about Jesus. Heitzig gives a conservative and literal reading of the Bible.
