Clues begin to appear, and Skye realizes the weather is tormenting her family above all others and has been for decades. This book is fabulous! It has a strong young female protagonist and a suspenseful plot involving terrible weather and family challenges similar to those many young teens feel. I loved the setting on the Oregon coast (one of my favorite places) and the ending was wonderful. It was delightful to see these teens in action and the courage they exhibited. Great role models for young readers!

Read this book! It is wonderful!

Heidi B. says...

Kim Cooper Findling and Libby Findling’s The Sixth Storm beautifully captures the story of Skye Clancy and her quest toward finding the cause of the storms that have been tormenting her family for decades. This novel has a strong, young female protagonist, and it shows that no obstacle is too big to overcome. I had assumed that this novel would have a suspenseful plot involving eerie weather and captivating family history. The Findlings not only showed that, but they also conveyed a bittersweet story of persistence, familial love, and hope. I was deeply intrigued by the events in The Sixth Storm, and couldn’t put it down. The story of Skye and her quest will both fascinate you and make you want to keep reading until you finish.

The paranormal curse in the Findlings' The Sixth Storm resonates precisely because the other elements of the story feel so real. Starfish Cove may be fictional, but I've driven through a dozen towns like it on the Oregon Coast, and Skye may be fictional, but we've all known a tenacious young person who refused to give up in the face of difficulties adults couldn't fully understand. This novel will make you feel like you're trapped in a house on the Oregon Coast during an epic storm, and the story is so intriguing, you'll be glad you're there!

(I got to read an advance review copy so I could provide a blurb.)

When is a storm not just a storm? When it's a multi-generational curse, sowing death and destruction on the small Oregon coast town of Starfish Cove. Skye, the most recent family member to gaze on a mysteriously glowing starfish, finds herself at the eye of both extreme weather and intense family drama. With careful plotting, rich detail, and twists and turns like an Oregon country road, The Sixth Storm will have readers quickly turning pages...and making sure they have a good raincoat on hand.
