A few years back I won Dannika Dark's Seven series on Audio. Best dang thing that ever happen. Since then I have devoured her backlist and impatiently wait for each new release. Her series all take place in the same world but feature different supernatural characters. If you are new to this author, I recommend beginning with the Mageri series as a secondary character there becomes a key character in Crossbreed.

As soon as I got this audiobook I listened. Despite my best efforts to extend my listening and therefore my enjoyment the events of Blackout, the previous novel, and the beginning of Nevermore, made that virtually impossible.

Raven is visiting her Da. She and Christian aren't speaking and trouble is coming. They say bad things happen in threes and so it is in Nevermore. However, Dark balances it all out with snark, character grow, humor and tender moments involving different characters. I love Keystone and while most of this story happens outside of the compound; we enjoy moments within its walls.

I feared that miscommunication, stubbornness and outsiders would put a giant kink in the relationship between Raven and Christian. Both have endured so much. I admit the need for assurance kept me listening, even as I worried about the threat from the lions and a bitchy vamp. Then the whole thing with Keystone and Victor. Eek gads!

There were funny moments like the barbs between Christian and Raven's Dad or the run in Christian had at a certain BBQ establishment. Hilarious! I am hoping Dark has many more stories for these characters. Fans of Cecy Robson's Weird Girls, Ilona Andrews' Hidden Legacy series and Patricia Briggs' Alpha & Omega series will love diving into Crossbreeds.

I would be remiss if I didn't recommend and rave about the narration of Nicole Poole. Poole brings these characters, the situations and all the emotions to life. This series is perfect for audio and Poole adds another level of enjoyment. She is the voice of Christian and Raven. From accents to snark she makes me giddy. Dannika, Dannika, Dannika.

I just ....don't know anymore. What are you playing at?

The first 70% of this book read like this

The last 30% was like

So what am I left with. 3 stars that's what

Christian - my love for you is eternal
Raven - get over it already I'm sick of your whining ass
Lenore - I will gut you
Switch - Christian will gut you and I will watch
Dannika - You're quids up. 6 books just to get here.

This book was about nothing really. There was no plot to take over the world, no case to solve. Just Raven whining about how her life how turned out, wishing it could all be different and generally wallowing in the past.

It made for a very unexciting plot. There was no ass-kicking, no training sessions, Christian barely even made an appearance until 70% in.

ughhh I swear if he wasn't the sexiest vampire in history and had that beaut of a picture at the end this could have been a 2 star.

One more rant to finish

What the ever-loving effing eff is Saint Patty's day???
I refuse to believe the author who can write an Irish character so spot on as to include language like

Gobshite, eejit and fanny

could go and commit the most heinous of crimes and call it Saint Patty's day!!!!

I hope it's because it was Americans who said it. There is no way Mr Poe would have come out with that shite.

It's been quite awhile since I was able to blast through a book like I did this one. And I am beyond ecstatic that I was able to breeze through without pausing. Be prepared, if you start reading Nevermore, you will not want to put it down. Non-stop from beginning to end, you will laugh hysterically, you will bristle with fury and you will LOVE this book. Dannika Dark is brilliant and there are very few, that I would claim can come close to her caliber. Read the book!

I love this series! Dannika doesn't disappoint her fans with Nevermore. It ran me through the emotional gambit and left me with a smile on my face.
Looking forward to what Christian, Raven and the rest of the Crossbreed cast get into in book 7.

Raven Black is a crossbreed vampire/mage in love with Irish vampire, Christian Poe. This time though, she’s upset with him so she returns home to her father for a visit. Until recently her father thought she had died a decade before when she was first turned. Instead of working with Keystone on a case, she gets involved in her father’s major problems of the shifter lion sort and it’s not very pretty. Why is this the delight for me? Because I think Dark could write anything and I would love it as she is just that good of a writer. Just a heads up, it’s really hard to write a review on the sixth book in a series without spoilers-so there will be some about previous books.

Raven is on her own, at least at first, in this sixth book of the Crossbreed series. Her father, Crush, is just as crusty as ever, but adores Raven and is pleased to have her back home. Now that she knows that Crush is a trusted human in the Breed world, she is finally allowed to have a relationship with him again. Angry at Christian for not telling her about her dad’s status, she is on leave from her work with Keystone, the clandestine group that helps guard the world from Breed criminals. It’s not long before she is pulled into her father’s huge mess after his dealings with a lion shifter pride. On Christian’s side, he is going crazy wanting Raven to come back home. When someone from his past enters his life again, it causes major problems for both Raven and Christian.

Raven is the best as a kick ass crime fighter with a twist of vulnerability when it comes to her father and Christian. She might be a killer at times in her job, but she loves Christian, her dad, and cares about the members of her team at Keystone. She’s willing to give it all up for both her dad and Christian and is loyal to a fault at times. Raven’s the epitome of the complex urban fantasy heroine with a heart. Her banter with other characters and Christian is epic at times and she’s not afraid to stand up to the bad guys. Can you tell that I adore her character? Christian is a vampire and Dark’s version of a vampire are that they are not to be trusted, can charm a person to do their bidding, can shadow walk, and while they can eat food, most would rather not. They are fast, have super hearing and are very strong. Most don’t go around drinking human blood indiscriminately, and actually don’t need to drink all that often. So yes, he is a vampire, but he’s also vulnerable when it comes to Raven and actually very trustworthy towards her and Keystone. He uses his gifts in his job and to protect Raven when he needs to. We learn even more about his backstory and it’s every bit as compelling as I suspected it might be. Other members of Keystone are important even if Raven isn’t staying at the mansion. I have so many favorite characters in that motley crew of paranormals that it would be hard to pick a favorite. And I absolutely loved Raven’s father and how much he loved Raven.

I continue to enjoy so many aspects of this series. I love that Dark has kept her world building the same from one series to the next and we learn more and more about Breed with each installment. And while this book doesn’t involve a mystery case as usual, it does involve a murderous lion shifter pride that I wanted to take out myself! Never a dull moment when Raven is around. Dark also continues to add nuances to her characters and I continue to marvel at her storytelling ability. I thought the romance in this one was much deeper and Christian shows his romantic side on at least a couple of occasions. Always nice to see other sides of Christian.

Highly recommended to adult urban fantasy and paranormal romance readers. You’re missing out if you are still not reading Dannika Dark. I’m going to say “I told you so” for after you actually start reading her. If you already read her, then you already know.

Nevermore is the sixth novel in the Crossbreed series by Dannika Dark and it was as exciting to listen to like all the other installments. Dark is not losing her steam with this world and characters anytime soon!

Nevermore starts days after Blackout with Raven saying with her dad Crush. Crush is wanted the Breed world calls a trusted human. A human who knows about the Breed world and is trusted enough to keep those memories. Crush believed that Raven has been dead the last seven years until Blackout.

Once someone is turned into one of the many Breeds who are knot born, vampires, mages, and a few others, they have to leave their human world behind, including their families. Now that Crush and Raven are reunited they are catching up on the last few years they missed.

Christian is also catching up with someone from his past, Lenore. She is a horn in Raven and Christian’s side and I’m so glad that Dark didn’t go the route some authors have in the past with this bitchy vamp. (Swoon-worthy scenes with Christian and Raven!)

While these two connect with their pasts and family, Shepard connects with his lost son, Hunter. The Keystone gang does what they do best, come together as a unit and family to help one of theirs out but this time it’s not on a case but on personal matters with Raven and her dad.

Dark peppers in some clues as to something to come in the continuing series storyline and I’m sure that Raven has not seen the last of her vampire maker, Houdini.

I cannot rave enough about Nicole Poole’s narration on this and all of Dark’s series. Poole is the reason Dark is an auto only author for me. She masterly voices all the characters from the female to the male. Her voice for Christian is perfection. I really enjoyed her bring Raven’s dad, Crush to life as well.

* Beware of spoilers for past novels in this series.

To tell you the truth I tried to make the audio book to this novel last. I didn't succeed very well considering I read it in 8 days but I sure tried to string this along and milk it for all it was worth.

I have to say that I didn't dislike the road this novel ended up traveling. It was a departure from the loose formula past books have established. This was one of the more character driven books and considering I'm VERY invested in anything relating to this series I liked it regardless.

Raven just had the rug pulled from under her by a person she trusts. The events in this novel shows how she deals with that while still trying to solve a problem that's come up later on. Things eventually work out but it's a long road to get there. The outcome of everything though was totally worth it!

Christian kind of proved himself worthy in this novel. I don't want to come right out and say it but OMG IT FINALLY HAPPENED! I'm so happy and yet skeptical of everything at this point. I'm scared this may be the calm before the storm just like Gaslight was the calm before the ending to Blackout hit.

I loved the new characters that have been introduced in this novel! So much fodder for even more spin-off novels. If only writing books were an easier and faster process. I'll take cliff notes at this point just to get a possible glimpse into what happens to them in the future!

The ending was so sweet! I can't wait for the next book in this series. It sounds like the next book may resume with the pre-established formula of solving crime and developing characters in the midst of it all.

The Audio Book:

Nicole Poole is at the top of my favorite narrator's list. We got off to a rocky start but I've learned to appreciate her voice with its beautiful range of accents and realistic male and female voices. This narration was no different!

I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Nevermore was one of the releases I was most excited for in the New Year. After the suspicious and kind of up-in-the-air ending of Blackout, I was dying to get back into the Crossbreed world.

Our story mostly focuses on Christian and Raven, but we do get glimpses of the Keystone crew which I wanted to mention because the stuff going on with Shepherd and Hunter is so great to watch. So much growth and change for Shepherd. He made my heart swell a few times and I'm glad that he made the decision he did.

Throughout the first part of Nevermore. I was frustrated with Christian for his lack of communication with Raven. Raven's trusting of a cunning vamp truly had me freaking out. I wanted to warn her so bad before she got in too deep, but she just wouldn't listen to my screamed attempts to contact her through my stereo!

Most of the action boils down to Raven's attempts to get her father out of the financial peril he is in. She must deal with shifters who are pretty powerful. Raven comes to learn how important her Keystone family truly is to her.

I was so pumped throughout most of the story. I was dying inside for Raven and Christian, but Christian really shows a side to him that was unexpected. Raven's dad was a hoot and just as stubborn as his daughter. Rush's reaction to Christian was hilarious and I'm eager to see how their relationship develops.

The Crossbreed series brings the drama of a romance in the works, with some pretty great action and just wonderful world building. Every character plays such an important part, and they all work together to make such a great team that goes beyond just professional relationships.

I cannot imagine missing out on Nevermore in audio. Nicole Poole is the voice of this series and she truly brings it alive. This is one of the best author/narrator pairings I've heard yet. I can't think of these books without thinking about the greatness of the audio. The wonderful writing and amazing narration bring the Crossbreed series to the next level and keep me coming back for more.

Do I really have to wait another year for the next one? Someone tell me I'm going to get another installment this year! This review was originally posted on Rantings of a Reading Addict

Nevermore was a very good story, but I was sure it was going to be the last in the Crossbreed series - and I don't really understand why there will be more books. Don't get me wrong - I love the characters, the world, and everything going on here - but it just feels like it's being dragged out a little bit now.

There was a lot going on, especially because Raven was able to spend some time with a special someone she hadn't seen in a long time. And that was definitely balm for the heart (both hers and mine!). With some new players on the scene, there were also some drama that couldn't get avoided.

First hour a bit slow. Not that I'm not happy to add Ravens father to the character list, but their reunion was a bit tedious when all you want is to see her and Christian.

This book should've been one of those In between books like #5.5 instead Book #6. It's all filler and stuffing. It focuses on Raven reconnecting with her father and making a final decision on what to do about her feelings for Christian. It's not what I was expecting when I curled up under my electronic blanket and put on my head phones.

At this point in the series, I've gotten use to the change in Point of Views. There are multiple POVs in Nevermore. I appreciate a chance to get away from Raven making one dumb decision after another. Though its stated over and over how Raven is brave and loyal, they never call her smart. Thats because she's not. Listening to her make bad bargains right behind each other... well, it's a bit embarrassing for me. I expected her to be more cautious and have better street smarts by now. Another example is the fact that Raven comes across a breed nanny who teaches school and then later in the book learns that a friend's breed kid can't read and needs a baby sitter. At no point does the thought lightbulb go off for Raven... poor child. All she has to do is recommend this nanny for the kid and two problems solved with one solution. But not Raven.

My favorite character in the whole series is Christain. Nevermore has a lot of Christian. Finally we get a bit of insight into our Irish Bad boy. Definitely the best part of the book for me.

One thing I really appreciate from the author is that she steered clear of an easy cliche trap. There is a point in the book where Raven is faced with a relationship challenge that could have easily gone in a dreadful direction. However the author has Raven react in a way I can respect of a grown woman who is confident in herself. Thanks for that.

The narrator is excellent. Her accents and voices of the characters realty fit for me.

On a last note, does anyone else think that Blue maybe in love with Vicktor??? That would be juicey!

My Rating:
2 Stars 🌟🌟- Decent. Has Potential. Possibly a good idea for a story but something could have been better. Sometimes it's because the author put too little or too much into the wrong parts of the story. New authors sometimes fall in this ranking and move up as their series progresses. Doesn't mean I hated it. Just means it was missing something to push it over the hump.

3.5 I have a love / hate relationship with this series

This series started out strong for me, but I’m having a hard time in liking a lot of the character’s decisions and motives. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

The first half of the book was rough. I understood the relationship between Raven and Christian would be rocky (they split up in the last book) but I didn’t realize how non-existent they would be. There was zero interaction until 30% of the book.

The parts where Christian and Raven didn’t interact were a drag but when they did interact, it was really great. I was glued and sucked into the story. I just didn’t like the pace at all.

The second half changed for the better but I don’t think it was enough for me to change my review to 4 stars. I felt like there could have been a better lead-up, to me, it felt flat and a little forced, you will understand when you read the book.

The main story in Nevermore was the relationship between Raven and her Dad, Crush (it took me FOREVER to figure out she called her dad Crush). I didn’t care for their story at all. I felt like it could have been a side piece story, not the main story.

I commend Raven’s love for her father, but goodness, it was a struggle in reading how much she loved her father and how much she was willing to take on for him. She did a LOT. It was too the point where I was just really annoyed (like I was in the last book).

I didn’t understand a lot of the reasoning for many actions in the book and the whole point of the ruby necklace was insane! Christian bought it for his ex! Anyhow. I already purchased the rest of the series on audio and I’m not the type to return books so on I go.

Can’t get enough!

The Crossbreed series is one of my all time favorites and Dannika Dark didn’t disappoint with Nevermore!

If you’ve gotten this far in the series there’s no reason to recap the fantastic world-building, or how amazingly well developed each of the characters are. They are honestly so real that finishing a book is like leaving family behind. The term book hangover doesn’t do it justice, it’s more like homesickness.

So, in Nevermore we’re really delving more into the lives and history of Raven and Christian. We learn about the events and people of their past, and who played an important role in determining who they are in the present. Some new characters are introduced, and some names mentioned in previous books are brought to life of these pages... some deliciously good, and some I would rather throat punch than read about.

Houdini makes a few appearances just to tease us, and I love every second of it. I know we’re supposed to hate him, but he’s wickedly intriguing to me. I slurp up his snippets like a Houdini addict.

I wish I could pace myself so the books could last longer. But I cannot. I can’t get enough.

It's funny, when I read this book back in 2019, I felt like it was one book too many in the series, and now, I'm actually happy to know that there are still more books to be had :)
I think this is a series I enjoy much more in audio than when I read it myself, too! So if you're into this series, I recommend listening to them as well.

So I have been anxiously awaiting the release of this book. Finally the day came!!!! And it was so very worth the wait. Lines were drawn in the sand. Questions were answered. Secrets were revealed and put to rest. Declarations were made. Raven helped her dad out of a dangerous situation. Friends from the past were introduced. Such a great book!! This series just keeps getting better and better. I absolutely loved the book and series!!!!!! A must read......over and over and over again!!!!

Another Bingable Book

I waited months for this book to come out, and of course read it in a single sitting. While there was less action than the last two books, this one was full of emotion. And when I say less action, I mean Keystone is on hiatus/vacation and yet trouble always seems to find them.

I have read and enjoyed all the authors books, and while the Magori will always be my favourite series I do like Crossbreed. I have come to love all the funny eccentric character's and the great stories. This one was really good and I liked the ending a lot.

I love following the story of Raven Black. I love the relationship between her and Christian.
With this one, I was very happy to have a big part of her past slide into place. I think her dad is a very cool character and I adore the fact that she was essentially raised in a pack without ever being aware of Breed.
I’m not excited about the appearance of Lenore, but since it seems there is a 7th book in our future, I am sure it is not the last we will hear of her. I also hope that we hear more about Switch and the role he will play in the life of Crush and Raven. I keep wondering if he will be a new member of Keystone, but his love for teaching pack children may be what wraps up his absence in the future.
I also love the side story of Hunter and Shepherd and the development of their father son relationship.

Side note: I totally geek out that Christian’s last name is Poe, that his old flame is Lenore, that our main character is Raven, and that this book is titled Nevermore. If the author doesn’t loved Edgar Allan Poe, I would be deeply wounded.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

AudioBook Review:
Stars: Overall 5 Narration 5 Story 5

Taking a bit of a break from the non-stop action and information uncovering, this story focuses more on Raven and Christian, and how they came to be the people they are. Raven is visiting with her father and taking a break from Christian – they aren’t speaking and she needs a break to regroup and relax. But, this is the Crossbreed world, and ‘relax’ isn’t a word that fits well in this world. Again, Dark has managed to build the expansion of the world to fit with the one so well-detailed to this point, and Raven’s Da is pretty much what you’d expect – a bit snarky, a touch tender and of course he’s being threatened by something ‘more’ than what is apparent. The moments between Raven and her father are clever and feel plausible, and her father’s reaction to Christian with the barbs they exchange and the conflict that really isn’t – as they both want only the best for Raven.

Poor Christian though, as we see his life and what brought him to this point, and both he and Raven have endured so much to get to where they are and aren’t, it almost felt as if we all needed this break to better understand them both, and thus their connection. And it’s most certainly there – full of light and funny moments, some awful events and threats from the outsiders who felt as if they could influence, for the worse, the connection he and Raven share. When you add in lions, a bitchy vamp and some funny asides from other members of the team, Raven’s Da and even from Raven and Christian themselves, this is a story that provides a nice interlude from the non-stop questions and action and allows everyone a moment to breathe.

Nicole Poole, again, performs the story and becomes a highlight with her deft voicing for both Raven and Christian. It’s easy to pick them out from scenes as her voicing has remained consistent, and her performance never falters – introducing new and familiar characters, giving them life and form, and adding moments to ‘breathe’ where laughter or tension is the only response. She’s brought these characters and this story into an ‘experience’ as nothing of the author’s intention is lost in this performance and keeping listeners hanging on her every word.

in this series, I think this was the book I was anticipating the most and it turned out to be my least favorite in the series. It had all the right pieces, romance, angst, the ex factor, family issues and work. But they didn't come together for me.

The blurb! So excited for this one (and a little scared at how emotional I will be if when (?) Raven pawns off the necklace 😬😬).

January can’t come fast enough.

This is the 6th book in the series and you will need to read them in order. This one steps away from the Keystone clan for the most part. It follows Raven as she tries to come to terms with who she is and where she came from. She spends time with her dad and gets caught up in his dealings. Rather than calling her team for help, she tries to go solo and of course meets up with some nasty folks.

Meanwhile, Christian is pining away, wondering if he can make things right between them again. It takes most of the book to get these two to the point of talking things out and coming clean.

We see lots of familiar folks, good and bad. I think this book was a nice fill in. But, I missed the crime fighting/sleuth business of Keystone. And although we got a peek at some of the political mess that is ongoing, nothing was really resolved on that front.

I love this author and am always happy to read what she puts out. Not my favorite of the series, but will be a necessary read in order to understand the next books.

Apesar de ter uma resolução importante, esse foi o mais fraco até o momento. Não avança em quase nada a história geral da série...

Dannika did it again!! This is one of the best in this series!!! The kaleidoscope of emotions is unreal. At one point I felt the shock and betrayal as if it was my own.
