L'orgasme sans tabou
Did you know that women can orgasm in 10 different ways, and a man in 7 different ways? A new book from sex educator Lou Paget is always a delight. Her frank, positive attitude and sprightly style make her books a pleasure to read. Her other books have focused on the total sexual experience--this one zooms in on the "Big O": orgasm. Of course first you have to understand how your body and your partner's body function sexually, how to build seduction and foreplay into your lovemaking (no matter how long you've been together as a couple), the importance of communication, and myths you need to dispel, so don't expect a whole book of lovemaking technique. In chapters 5 (women's orgasms) and 6 (men's orgasms), she gets to the techniques: lots of them, and clearly illustrated with line drawings.
Paget also includes spicy and amusing facts, such as, "Back in the Middle Ages, straight pubic hair was a sign of too much masturbation, which presumably accounts for the wide popularity of miniature pubic hair curlers at the time," and "In 1930 there was a nude indoor bicycle race in Paris in which each woman's goal was to be the first to orgasm from rubbing on the seat."
Lou Paget is also the author of How to Be a Great Lover: Girlfriend-to-Girlfriend Totally Explicit Techniques That Will Blow His Mind and How to Give Her Absolute Pleasure: Totally Explicit Techniques Every Woman Wants Her Man to Know. Though some information from earlier books is repeated in this one (who minds a reminder about our differences, or an illustration of Ode to Bryan, AKA the Penis Samba?), most is new, or presented in a new way. Do I even have to state the obvious on this one?? .. it was a very educating book, gave a different outlook on something I thought there was nothing more to know about but, OH! was I wrong ... in a pleasantly surprised kind of way.

Some good tips and makes you feel comfortable about private things you may worry about, but I can't say it helped a great deal.

It took time to finish this book. I read a part and after some time I got back to it again. I did not really enjoy reading it (it is not very well written), but still was curious if there is something new for me.
The book is interesting both for beginners as well as experienced or those who want to know details about everything around sex, orgasmus, illnesses, etc. etc.
I have not read all, as some parts were boring/not interesting for me (already known or too detailed).
It is not bad, but it did not meet my expectations. Nevertheless, it showed me that I am lucky and there is nothing I would miss in my life. 😃

This book is poorly written. It feels like it was slapped together without much thought, which sucks considering it starts out talking about what an expert the author is because she's read so much and is so deeply interested in the subject. Really? Well, you've failed to prove that's the case, but thanks for telling me about it.
Also, There are these frustrating "tip" boxes and "historical facts" sections sprinkled throughout. They break up the text in a way that's very distracting. What she's interjecting has nothing to do with what you're reading, and a lot of that stuff isn't interesting in the least. I wish she had nixed about 80% of it. To make matters worse, there are "historical facts" that aren't historical or factual. Awesome work. Way to show you give a shit man.
I feel like maybe the publisher was like, "We have a three book contract...give us a third book damn it. Also, it has to have this shitty format." And she just phoned it in. That's my theory. Based on the way it feels when you're reading it.
It felt like the author couldn't figure out who the target audience is. She talks to the reader like a beginner who's never before put down her bible long enough to wank off for the first time, then BAM, suddenly we've moved on to anal sex and toys within the span of like, a sentence. It feels all wrong. Shit is missing. If you're going to address these different groups of people, you really need to, you know, take a second and address them.
It also has this disjointed feeling, almost as if there are multiple authors or it was written over a very long period of time, because the tone contradicts itself, or something will be stated without explanation and then not revisited again for 60 pages leaving you to wonder, "What in the fuck?"
I think what irritates me the most is that it says a lot of really progressive things, but then completely destroys that by saying shit that's gross. Was this book written in the 90's or the 50's? I can't tell. (For the record, it was released in 2001, but it doesn't feel like it AT ALL.) The author should've perhaps read less about tantric sex and a little more about feminism before writing this book because it gets in it's own way. "Liberate yourself!...Do what's expected of you!...Be your own woman!...Be what your man needs!" Maybe it was just poor word choice. But it's like, hey, if you're trying to address people who are afraid to try masturbation for the first time because it makes baby Jesus cry...you need to be more clear. They're likely never going to get off with this confusing advice.
I don't know. Maybe 2001 was a shitty confusing time for female sexuality and I'm just not remembering it all that well because that was 11 years ago and I was in high school. But that doesn't really change the fact that this book kind of blows.
Maybe it's not a total throw away? It seems like if you don't take all the nonsense to heart, and bad writing doesn't bother you, maybe you could get something out of it? But honestly, I wouldn't bother.
And if you're as much of a beginner as this book tries to address, throw this book away and get S.E.X. by Heather Corinna. It might conflict with conservative values a little (it addresses homosexuality! Holy shit), but at least it wont scramble your brain like this mess might.

Somehow I ended up with this book in my jacket pocket after a drunken party with a bunch of friends. I vaguely remember having a conversation about it. The book was ok...I guess I wasn't really looking for anything in it, so I didn't really get a ton out of it. A fun read, though, with some creative ideas should you need them.

I love any open and honest discussion of sex; this was a fun read more for the reaction I would get reading in public. If you do read this in public expect people to interrupt and ask you about it-- I always got a positive reaction but typically people kept their voices down.

Some very good and new info in here, but it's few and far between. A more appropriate subtitle would have been "How to Turn a Few Pages Worth of Very Useful Knowledge Into an Entire Book and How to Use a Clever and Enticing Title to Make that Book Sell". Maybe it's a bit too long....

I found this book to be very enlightening. It is full of useful information with precise details and visual aids.
She is very clear in getting the information across to the reader and does so in a way that makes it easy to read.

This book is a lovely compendium of the many different kinds of orgasms. I had no idea men and women could experience pleasure in so many unique (and sometimes outlandish) ways. For the sexually curious, this book is a must-read. According to the author, women can experience 10 different orgasms while men can experience 7 different kinds.
It's important to mention that orgasm seems to be - to an extent - a matter of interpretation. Some online articles suggest women can have as many as a dozen kinds of orgasms, while others list less than 10. I'm not a sexologist, so I can't explain how experts arrive at such varying conclusions on the human capacity for getting off. Whatever the "true" number of orgasms men and women can experience, the book offers useful pointers for the sexually curious, as well as appendices that list STDs and popular stores that sell sex toys across North America.
The advanced sexologist may not learn all that much from this book, but neophyte kinksters and explorative couples may find it entertaining.

This is a good all purpose book about exploring orgasms. It isn't great for someone who isn't straight. The standards of the missing female orgasm are all here. The issue is that if you are a man with delayed orgasm, there isn't much that you haven't found out already. Or at least that has been my experience.
Given that is a rarity, there are still things for me to try and I have. Some of them are just techniques but at the end of the day, the basics of listening, trying and taking it slow without orgasm being the goal, is the best way to get to an orgasm.
It is part of my purge and I will probably find a way of offering it to my teen boy before getting rid of it. It would have served me well as someone starting out. Sex is learned.

Very informative. It includes everything from breathing properly to tantric and becoming in tuned with your body as well as your partner's body.

It basically made me want to have sex every time I read it haha. Every man should read this book so they can understand a woman’s body and how to please her. Most things talked about I already knew but it was still an interesting read nonetheless.
