The art style is somewhere between the movie Yellow Submarine, Terry Gilliam's Monty Python cartoons, and Native American murals. Which is to say it's very 1970s counterculture, and the story follows that trajectory. The characters are finding themselves, learning that they are great the way they are without caring about their reputations. It could almost be a religious theme (learn you are God's beloved), but the religious implications are absent, more of an emphasis on "dig yourself, man."
