I loved book one of this and was excited to see where the author would take it, but I have to admit that I was disappointed with this!
This one starts slow, the gets good, then fizzles out at the end! There were a lot of things I found to be unbelievable and in my opinion, quite silly! It's hard to talk about some of the things because they are major spoilers, but I'll do my best with the non spoilery parts.
Anna and Sam are coming to terms with her mothers death, and the end of life as they knew it, but their life isn't too bad. Her grandfather seems to have everything and she's not wanting for anything. They have a fence around his place, and bars on the windows. In fact, the whole town where they live seems to be doing good. There is a bit of unrest when the town is told to hand over all their weapons, but that fizzled out way too quickly.
Annas' grandfather is a piece of work!! What he tries to do to Sam was.... I don't know, I was shaking my head because I didn't think the character he asked would have done it and Sam wouldn't have been so naive when the shot came near him. I think he would have put two and two together! But again, that little story line fizzled out and never got a resolution either.
Possible spoilers!!!! Another part of the plot that annoyed me and seemed unbelievable was when Sam was sent on a certain task. A certain character comes to their town and tells them he is responsible for everything! He is the hacker, and he knows that the group responsible for making him commit the act is about to undertake something even worse..... Why would he turn up in a small town and blab his sins!! Why would they not inform the authorities and get qualified men to save the world!! Instead Sam and a few others go.
To me, the whole plot felt rushed. The ending definitely felt the most rushed and I did not like it at all!!!! I wanted to give up a few times but I also wanted to see what happened because I did like the characters!!
In all, I really think this should have been one decent sized book, instead of two. I feel like the story could have been great, but instead it just felt rushed and suffered because of it. 2.5 stars!!
Kevin Pierce is the voice of Post Apocalyptic books. He has read so many of them!! He is clear and easy to follow and has plenty of tones and voices for the characters.
I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.
While I had already come to grips with the reality that this book series was the equivalence of a popcorn movie, fun but forgettable, I really was expecting more from the ending. I won’t give any spoilers but I am not sure if the publishing company stopped paying the author or he just got bored with this book because it wrapped up in about 5 minutes worth of reading while there could have been an entire another book of happenings. The author spends nearly 2 full books building up the problem only to end of the book and series in about 3 pages. I literally flipped through the Kindle edition a couple of times to see if I have possibly missed a chapter. Very disappointing.
I liked this second book (apparently the final one for this series?). There is a lot of action but it is consistent with the plot and the degradation of the manipulative actions of one particular person. I am surprised a former military man like Sam would thing that No Trespassing signs would be very effective in counteracting any ill intent. This also intersected rather nicely with the persons responsible for what had happened and their plans to cause worse disaster. The ending wraps up somewhat quickly and a bit too neatly, but this was overall a very fun series to read.
Seems oriented toward Youth market. Clean, minimal language problems.
The good guys win...but at considerable costs in pain, anguish and life.
Pretty clever "bad guys" sub-plot, a different take on threats.
The story ends on an improbable positive note...but still good to see.
Not sure if there's another in this series, or not, but I hope there will be. Sam is a great hero, Anna has much more room to grow, and Mason & Chase have the makings of a great road trip team.
One-day writers may realize that they don't have to use fowl language to write a good book! There are many that I don't read simply because of their language. It takes more talent to not use fowl language than it does to use it. Otherwise, it was a good book! See if the lack of fowl language doesn't help you gain more readers!
Very unbelievable! And not in a good way. Phrases such as “what are you on about? “ leads one to think that the author doesn’t have a very good grasp on American conversational English. I would recommend performing much more research about a location before trying to use it in a published book. I can’t recommend this book to anyone that follows the apocalyptic genre.
This story line has less over the top action that many do. It made this a better read. The DEAL was not superman hel L bent on shooting everyone in his way. It was a good read. As I've said before, thank a law enforcement officer and a veteran for your safety and way of life. Without their sacrifice, we'd lose it without a doubt. Pressure the powers that be to pay them fairly. They truly deserve it.
A JH. SYFY. Novel (AAOB - 2) / Colorado Here We Come
JH. has. penned a SYFY. Novel About a cyber attack against the US. In the second novel of two we begin to see the pattern that the Cyber attackers have made. Two men were trying to engage a war between Russia and the United States. They attempted to take over a nuclear solo to use against the US and USSR. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
Sam gets his daughter Anna home, but no one is safe yet. Between people acting crazy and Richard who hates Sam, the book is full of action! A community tries to stay civil two weeks after the lights went out. The characters were easy to care for or despise, and the action never stopped. Excellent Series!
I liked the characters. They fulfilled their potential and stepped up to the plate. They weren't stupid. I hate stupid protagonists. Jack Hunt did not have to lobotomize them in order to create tension and hard hitting action, conflict, and suspense. Well written and much enjoyed.
Oh my gosh i couldn't put it down. I loved the characters. Even the bad guys. Very well written. Lots of excitement. Can't wait to read more about chase and mason. Anna and Sam. I realy hope another boom co.ez out. I am not ready to say goodbye to these characters.please write another book about them.
This second volume keeps the action moving as the interest group of characters struggle to save themselves, their Colorado town or the entire world. My one issue is the premise that the national Grid could be switched in and off with a few keyboard strokes. Thank you Jack!
This is the final book of the two book series. I am breathless after just finishing it's reading. That was some action packed story! Will Mason return from California? Will the Minuteman security system be upgraded to keep us all safe from nuclear disaster? Liked both books. Mr. Hunt really spins a great yarn! Highly recommend in this genre! !
I am not one for outright murder which Hunt uses freely. He writes well but I wasn’t caught up I the story . There were times where I thought I might put it down and stop reading as I didn’t care but I pressed on to the end
Unlike so many zombie and other apocalypse stories, this one was more realistic and not so dark and hopeless. Well written. Good all the way through both books of this series.
After reading book one I thought I knew the plot & how it would end, I was so very wrong! The power going out was much more personal; just a couple people seeking their twisted revenge and the evil opportunist that go along for the ride.
Interesting characters who are surviving as best they can while not causing harm to others. Sadly this is not the case of several of the other characters who are willing to do whatever is necessary to survive including kill, maim & torture.
I grab anything new by Jack Hunt, because I've read all of his previous books and I'm never disappointed. The ending to this book had a refreshing twist, that isn't the usual for these types of books. I think you'll like it too!
Very enlightening and confirming! Interesting series and probably spot on in the reaction to such an apocalyptic event. Makes our current lifestyles questionable.
It's a good story, though I wished for more details and more character development. For me it just didn't hold my attention. However, anyone to sit down and write a story is a better man than I. Look forward to more of his creations.
I've read many books regarding the Apocalypse and this one seems to be one of the more believable. Although the bit about the nukes seemed a little off. Otherwise very good reading.
This was fun to read and quite accurate. Although a two book series, I hope we get to see if the end is the end...I’d like to know where it goes with Sam and Anna. Read the series!
Another great post apocalyptic mini series by this author Great character and plot development but just one little thing .... like all the others it needs a proof reader.
I have recently started binge reading Jack Hunt and so far this was my favorite series of his. I'm going to be continuing through his novels and recommending them.
The flow of the series was good, timeline was steady. The characters were interesting and flawed but good people, no one likes to read about perfect characters! Very enjoyable. Thank you!
Great read. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to reading more from this author and what I see on Amazon, he has written quite a few! Entertaining!
