Pocket Osteomancy: A Simple Bone Divination Set

Rate this book
Divination with bones doesn't have to be complicated! Pocket Osteomancy is a simple but effective system for using animal bones to focus your intuition and explore possibilities in your present and future. It's great for both beginners who may feel intimidated by more complex systems, and also provides a basic structure for more experienced practitioners to build on and explore. Lupa is a pagan author, artist and naturalist in the Pacific Northwest. She is the author of several books on nature-based paganism and natural history, and is the creator of the Tarot of Bones deck and book. More about Lupa and her creations may be found at

"I am an author, artist, and wannabe polymath living in Portland, OR. I've been a pagan of various sorts since the mid-1990s. My primary focus has always been on totemism and animal magics, though in recent years I've been expanding into the general totemic ecosystem, working with plant, fungus, mineral and other totems. I've written several books based on my practices, and you can read my blog at http://www.thegreenwolf.com/blog as well.

Also since the mid-1990s, I've created ritual tools, sacred costumery, and other meaningful art out of hides, bones, beads, and other organics. It's been a strong part of my spirituality, and I even wrote a book about it, Skin Spirits: The Spiritual and Magical Use of Animal Parts. You can see what's currently available for purchase on my Etsy shop: http;//thegreenwolf.etsy.com

I am very involved in environmental and sustainable efforts. I volunteer with local environmental groups with tree planting and litter cleanup efforts, and I even adopted a small stretch of the Columbia River to clean litter, monitor flora and fauna, and do water testing. At home I do my best to follow Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (in that order), and many of my art supplies are secondhand or otherwise reclaimed, and everything gets used one way or another.

When I'm not creatively working or volunteering, I love to hike, go out dancing, read voraciously when I have the time, and hit the gym a few times a week.

I just received this little book today and am very impressed. I ordered the book along with a personalized divination set from the author directly from her website http://www.thegreenwolf.com/pocket-os.... The author was fantastic to work with, answering my questions and providing suggestions as needed. She has wonderful care toward her work and toward quality customer service.

As for the book itself, it is very short and to the point, as it was intended to be. The author provides the framework for her divination system, how she came about it's development, general symbolism and meanings of the casting cloth and bones, and how to use it. She also provides examples of how to read the bones when you cast them, along with information on how to develop your own osteomancy set or to expand on her basic set if you ordered one from her directly. She also includes resources on further books on osteomancy for additional research, and a list of trusted bone suppliers. For a book with 24 pages, it is filled with everything you need to know to get started with osteomancy without becoming overwhelmed, and the author's voice in her writing never talks down to the reader, which is refreshing as well.

Great book for beginners. The author starts off with four bones and how to use the reading cloth. The cloth as four quadrants representing the four seasons. After giving definition of the four bones and the four quadrants there are sample readings. Great book to help with learning and developing a practice.
