This book was weird...

Fire Possessed is a reverse harem book but I honestly felt like nothing happened. Usually in harem books, I'm expecting the smut that I know I'm going to get. However, this book just gave me some teasing moments. I hate teasing moments so god damn much.

In it, you will meet Sophie and she likes to banter with Mother. No, not her actual mother like I thought it was. Nope, it was Mother Nature. It was interesting to see how her life and magic would all play out in this book. Plus her relationship with everyone in the harem but the guys were just disappointing to me. I mean, I liked them - a lot, but where was the smut guys?

Overall, I liked it and it was interesting. I might dive into the second book but no promises as of right now. Unless there's smut - then I'll drop everything.

Weird book

Weird is about the only word I can use to describe this. I'm not sure I really liked this book, more like I liked the characters, and yet not them together? Lost? Ok let me break it down, we meet Sophia who mutes out other supernatural magic, a curse to her but a god send to those who are suffering. We meet one who can hear everyone's thoughts, and it brings in serious health issues, pretty much killing the poor guy, so once it finally stops when the brown headed girl shows up he right away connects them at the hip, he does w.e to be near her for this peace he's finally found, now this goes on to the next guy, and the next. You get the picture, what's hard to understand is how they come to a relationship? It's not cause the actually care about each other, but because they can't go back to how bad their lives once we're, and they continue to say this much throughout the book. They all are in it for something and it's kinda disturbing. Sophie is very weird, she starts fires, or rather mother nature does inside her, which is kinda mind boggling since I don't really consider fire starting a nature thing? Anyways, the way it's described in this read translates to more of a pyromanic. I mean she's killing ppl by burning them alive, whoa nature chick, I'm on the verge of considering this women is more demon possessed. Also the crying was to much, the feeling sorry, and the horrible nicknames in the book are just horrible. There is no character build, I have no idea what anyone really looks like, more the lines of cheap descriptions, I need more? Long story short very odd book with odd characters, odd powers, pretty much all around odd.

I'm not sure how I feel about this book. So I'm gonna write this review and then rate it. **This is a no spoilers review.

On one hand, I loved it. The guys you meet throughout this book that are going to be a part of Sophie's "harem" are so intriguing to me that I want to know more about them. I want it so bad that I'm DEFINITELY going to be reading the second book when it comes out.

But on the other hand, literally almost nothing happened in this book. You don't know what in the world is actually going on because nothing happened. Sophie basically met her four guys in this book and that was it. You know a little of each of them and you know a little of her but not much to be able to say "Omg! This was an amazeballs book!".

Sophie is a witch that grew up surrounded by normal humans. But witches have a serious connection to Mother Nature. And Mother has chosen Sophie to be the one to carry out the deeds she wants done. So in the beginning of this book, Mother forces Sophie to start her way toward the city of Twin Rivers; which is a supernatural city. It's filled with witches, shifters, psychics, and vampires.

On the way to the city, Sophie meets Carrigan. Who is a psychic that constantly reads the minds of the people around him. He can't shut it off. Until he comes in close range of Sophie. Who has the supernatural ability to turn off the magic of people in a certain range from her. Well, Sophie's ability is, quite literally, saving Cary's life. So he talks her into letting him accompany her to Twin Rivers, where he's from.

When they get to the city they meet Hagan. Another of Sophie's harem. He is a shifter who can't control when he shifts. Sophie's ability helps him just as much as it helps Cary.

Jonas is Cary's best friend. He looks out for and cares for Cary as if they were blood. Even though he's super prickly, he's a psychic that also finds himself running around town with the trio becuse Cary is involved. And Jonas would never abandon him.

The storyline in this book is that Mother Nature is pushing Sophie to find Elowen; a super powerful mage. The only person who can find her is Valor; a vampire. He's impossibly beautiful. And of course Sophie is drawn to him just like the other three even though he is immensely crass. He is the final piece of Sophie's harem.

This book was basically just Sophie meeting each of her guys. Which is a little disappointing because you want the actual story on top of learning about the guys. But you don't get it... I can say that I am kind of excited to get into book two to find out what in the world happens to the quintet. I think because I'm intrigued as much as I am disappointed that I'll leave the star review right in the middle with 3 stars. (:

Sophie is a witch that suppresses anyone's magic that is within her radius. Because of this, she has lived removed from the magical world. However, "Mother", as in Mother Nature and the source of all of Sophie's power, has a little quest for Sophie that will take her straight into the magical community of Twin Rivers. Before she even gets to town, she runs into Carrigan, a psychic that cannot turn off his mindreading powers and is constantly bombarded with the internal voices of others.

This first book primarily introduced the characters and gave them a reason to be together. The big picture plot has yet to progress, but we have an idea of what it is. What I liked about this book - and would probably bump it up a half-star rating if I could - is that harem is atypical for RH. Usually, the FMC's purpose is to augment the MC's powers somehow, even is she is powerful herself. In this one, Sophie basically renders them powerless and that is why they are drawn to her. They couldn't be happier to be just normal guys around her. It's just the kind of twist that makes things interesting. Also different, Sophie is scary. She might have a soft spot for wounded puppies, but she has no problem murdering people that she doesn't like. She's not your typical meek female surrounding herself with alphas. I'm looking forward to what happens next with the group.

Well.... this was a pretty decent start to the series. The premise was interesting. I think that, for me, what was lacking most was the world building and the backstory. We kind of got dropped right into the world with no real set up, almost like a sequel where the first book explained the rules. It was a little jarring..

I mean even our FMC, Sophie’s, backstory would have been a little helpful but all we got were snippets here and there. Why is she so special? Why has the mother chosen her? Her mission to bring the waters back... what does that really even mean? We were left with an ungodly amount of unanswered questions and dark avenues. Another thing I wasn’t really a fan of was the insta love, just because our FMC silences abilities everyone gets super touchy freely with her. The chemistry was a little off also because the FMC had a supremely motherly and nurturing vibe which made the different relationships a tiny bit weird. After reading the blurb I was all set for the curses on our males, however, I guess I was expecting something a little different. They all seemed like a helpless mess really. Sophie comes across like a bad A ability wise but also super naive and innocent at the same time. It was a weird dynamic really. Sophie, a witch, sets out after the mother burns her house down to get her to go on a mission. Along the way she picks up some cursed strays, at which point they spend the rest of the book trying to set the strays lives to right.

I think with more backstory and explanation that the reader would have had way more direction and understanding of what was going on. I’m willing to give book 2 a chance to see where this is headed.

Billed as a “full length reverse harem urban fantasy adventure”. What isn't mentioned is that it just abruptly ends with no resolution to the plot. Grr.

Now that that gripe is out of the way. It's really the only gripe I have. Well, that and the cover, which looks like it belongs on a completely different book. I can't even begin to picture Sophie dressed the way the cover model is. Anyway, I used to read a lot of paranormal, and got a bit burned out on it. But the synopsis for this book sparked my interest as it sounded a bit different. And it very much is. In the world of this book, there are magical creatures, most of whom live in Twin Rivers. Sophie is a witch, but her magic is quite different than other witches, in that when she is around, other's magic disappears. Obviously, this makes her presence a bit unwelcome to others in the magical community. So Sophie's father raised her away from Twin Rivers, in a community where magic is unknown.

Sophie has a connection to Mother Nature that I'm still a little unclear about. Mother Nature uses Sophie for her own purposes, and if Sophie refuses her bidding, Mother Nature retaliates by, say, burning her house down in the middle of the night. Mother Nature wants her to seek out a mage in Twin Rivers who can restore a lost river. So off Sophie goes, where one by one she meets up with the four men who I guess make up the “reverse harem”.

I was a little afraid that this book was going to devolve into just a bunch of sex scenes between Sophie and the four men, with some loose storyline to connect them (I'm looking at you Anita Blake!). I'm happy to report that did not happen. In fact, there's not really any sexual action until midway through the book, and did not involve every character. But even then, the story still took precedence. The connection between Sophie and each of the other characters was clear, or if not clear at first, became clear as you learned more about the characters. And the characters are well written. Of course they are all quite different from each other, what with one being a shifter and one being a vampire. A couple of the men do not make good first impressions, but as the author peeled away the layers of their personalities, they become more liable, more vulnerable, and more welcome to the party.

I read this book in two sittings. I probably would've read it straight through in one sitting if company had not shown up at my house. It did start out a little slow, but once Sophie met the first two men it picked up with some of the dialogue making me laugh. Also, I was on page 75 when it suddenly hit me that the narration is in present tense. My least favorite tense, and I didn't even notice until 75 pages in! Score one for the author, and I look forward to Book Two.

This book was alright. Their romance was way too fast and the vampire incident was akin to rape and really flavored my dislike for the story because they never even acknowledge it. Sophie is too hard, she has no soft sides that would make someone want to get to know her. She’s too old to be this stubborn and I know what the author was trying to do but they did too much and the character came across as unrelatable and therefore I didn’t connect with her like I wanted to. Hagan the shifter was an odd one. I don’t know why the author kept referring to his penis being the size of a donkey’s and how he wouldn’t be able to have sex with his mate. It was mentioned like 5 times. Overkill, we get it, he’s huge. Guess what? I didn’t really care. I did like Carrigan and Jonas characters the most. They were relateable and flawed in ways that were still redeemable. Valor can go jump off a cliff for all I care, that vampire is evil and irredeemable in my eyes. I won’t be reading more in this series because I felt that the driving force in the story (mother nature) was too ambiguous and I don’t really care what happens to Sophie anyway.

I really wanted to enjoy this one, but I was so annoyed by the MC. I understand the pull to be near her because of the whole absent powers thing, but I don’t see why everyone is falling in love with her after only knowing her for like 24 hours. And this whole journey in the book seemed never ending since we didn’t even get to the destination by the end.

DNF, there is just a lot of STTL, making it really hard to like the FMC. You feel dumped into the middle of a story making things confusing as to what is happening. To top it off the FMC has an exaggerated naivety that makes me roll my eyes. Overall I just can't make this one work for me.

Oh Sophie…
“Drawn to Sophie, these irresistible men find themselves caught up in a dangerous whirlwind of magic that runs deeper than they can imagine...”

Well its certainly deeper than Ms. September Stone can image too because… this book… just… It is so atrocious that it’s funny. This book will be someones cup of tea, it just wasn't mine.

1) Let’s start with the basics. The cover means NOTHING. Don’t even look at it. It’s Lies.
2) The characters and the world. Crazy. Just crazy.

Sophie: a Silencer, who mutes the supernatural power of those around her. Let’s just say I had to REMIND myself repeatedly that this chick was a 30 something year old woman and not a 17 year old crazy child… I mean…really… This woman contradicts herself within seconds and she acts younger than all the teenage heroines I have read in the last year. This girl is crazy and impulsive and not at all in a good way.

As for her “Irresistible men”: These guys are laughable at best and their nicknames only make it “better” – or worse… your call. Sophie compares her “irresistible men” to lost puppies ALL THE FREAKIN TIME. So there's that to warn you.

Carrigan “Cary”: an odd, adorable physic who is forced to constantly hear other people’s thoughts… and is dying (at least in the beginning???)… His attraction to Sophie makes the most “sense” to me.
And their relationship started off the most genuine.

Hagan: a bear shifter who doesn’t have complete control of his shifts. I will say I ended up enjoying Hagan. He may have been the saving grace of this book for me. However, I love me some Shifters, I can’t deny that so I am biased. He is a pack-less Bear who falls for his mate – Sophie. So now he has to determine how much of her he can “share”. Because… You know…a bonded/mated bear shifter would totally be part of a romantic reverse harem……..

BUT DON’T WORRY! There’s only some mild fooling around in this story… some lude comments, but the scenes are on the verge of innocent even if the language is a bit vulgar in parts. If you read this book and make it through, you will see what I mean.

Jonas: A douche bag of sorts…with what powers? Physic I guess…It’s barely hinted at that he has powers outside of being a rude A** MF.
Valor: a remorseless, cursed Vampire…. Let's just stop now.

So I took notes for this book.. and my notes get nasty on the writing. The contradictory thoughts, and the impulsive actions and the random acts of “romance” during the most improbable scenes just made this book so hard and annoying to get through.
Nightly, I would laugh about what I had just read.

Sophie spends way too much time being a whishy washy woman in absurd situations with horrific clichés that make me moan in anger… and she doesn’t take responsibility for anything she does because “Mother” is forcing her hand.

I kept reading this book for the insane amount of humor I pulled from this story. It’s probably not meant to be a cheesy rom com, but boy is it ever.

I thank Hidden Gems for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book for my honest review.

Interesting

Paranormal. Rh. 5 guys. Slowburn. Sophie has the power to cancel out other super natural's powers. So when 5 guys come along that need to have there powers cancels they stick to her side. Sophie's direct link to Mother Nature has her going to a twisted wizard for help finding the Lost River. End with a minor cliffhanger. Not your everyday everything falls into place Rh.

Written like a teenage watt-pad story. The timeline of the relationships happening within like 3 days of meeting everyone just makes it so juvenile and hard to get into. Take my review with a grain of salt bc I DNF this book

Interesting but...

I wanted to like this, it's got a unique plot and it's well-written. Personally I just didn't like some of the personalities and character dynamics. I realize that some of that is just personal preference, which is why I gave it 3 stars.
Sophie is a reluctant badass action whise, with the typical self-deprecating/self-doubting traits a lot of heroines have. She seems far too easy going and nice in some parts and doesn't seem to have much backbone personality whise, which is why I said she's only really a badass in her actions.
The guys are sort of unique because of their faults. Hagan has that typical overprotective/possessive vibe most shifters have and there was just something about him I didn't like. At first I liked his character but the closer he gets to Sophie the more overbearing he seems. If Sophie didn't actually like him, he could turn into a creepy stalker quite easily. His possessiveness is explained away by his being a shifter but I didn't like how Sophie barely seems to argue with him. I could easily see him making decisions for her in the future.
Cary is smart and I feel like his character would've been more interesting had he been more calculating instead of boy-next-door and just overall too nice. He seems like a doormat.
We barely get enough time to get to know Jonas or Valor to even really form an opinion on them, in my opinion.
It also seems to be missing a sort of comraderie that most RH books have. There is a lot of referring to Sophie as solely one person's that kind of annoyed me.
I feel like the overall plot is just very fast paced and it could've used a lot more character development.
Slight spoiler in the next part.

I also don't like how Sophie basically went from wanting to get rid of her abilities to it suddenly seeming like she's going to do what Mother wants her to do. Also in quite a lot of ways it seems like the only affection the guys have for her is because of her ability. I know they talk about how sweet she is, find her attractive etc, but they haven't known her long enough to have reality gotten to know her and it just comes across as sort of fake to me. Their main interest stemmed from her ability. And it's like they're willing to keep her around in any way possible, because of it, and even tolerate one another for it. Near the end Hagan even refers to her as a cure for Cary when thinking about how he wouldn't want to take her away from him, annoying enough that he didn't even seem to consider in that moment that she might not want him over Cary, but to refer to her as his cure, it just rubbed me the wrong way. And again when Valor is being invited to the house, Hagan flat out says that she won't have a relationship with him, again ignoring what she might want. By the last few parts with Hagan I found myself gritting my teeth and hoping that there wouldn't be much more interaction with him. He was probably my least favorite character in the book. Its like she's this perfect new toy to then instead of a person with her own wants and thoughts. It's almost assumed that she will plan a future with them and move in with them, ignoring that she was wanting to go back to her old job before.

Like I said, a lot of this was personal preference/pet peeves. Overall it's not terrible and the world building is pretty interesting and unique. The characters grated on my nerves, but that's just me. I'd say at least give it a try. I might try to read the next one just to see if I like the characters any more than in this one.

I received a free copy of this book from Hidden Gems in exchange for an honest review.

Overall, this book was fairly interesting. The characters were likable and introduced at a rate that wasn’t overwhelming. You weren’t slammed with character after character to remember the name of rapidly. I didn’t find myself drawn or attached to the main female, Sophie at all but since this is only the first book I’m willing to give it a little wiggle room since it’s character building and world building.

I did find myself attached to Carrigan fairly quickly. I enjoyed how sweet he is. I suppose there’s just something about him that I found endearing. Hagan I was neither here nor there about. He wasn’t my favorite but I didn’t dislike him either. Jonas grew on me and made me more interested in him the more you saw him. Valor immediately made me curious but I think that’s simply because he fit into the category of characters that just automatically steal my heart. I’m hoping we learn more about Mother Nature as the series continues, which I’m sure we will.

With Sophie, Carrigan, and Hagan’s relationship I’m hoping that the author keeps with the track that she has going with their relationship and doesn’t turn it into a triangle of sorts. Those are overdone and drawn out, there’s no need for it. I found what she had going with them to be a refreshing thing to see.

This is certainly a series that I would continue to read, one that I would pay to continue to read as well. It interested me from the beginning and I didn’t realize how fast I was going through the book. There didn’t really strike me as any dull or boring parts. Things flowed smoothly for the most part. There were a few contradictory bits but nothing that was a glaring, “Hey, that doesn’t make any sense.” Kind of deal. The end of the book came faster than I expected it to, which surprised me. No cliffhanger like I was expecting but I'm curious enough to want to know what happens next.

Overall, it was a pleasant read, one that I enjoyed and would recommend to someone that was looking for an easy read.

Surprisingly, a pretty good read.

Sophie is a witch who has an interesting relationship with Mother Nature. By interesting, I mean she talks to her and does her bidding. Anyways, Sophie has spent her life avoiding the supernatural community because of her 'defect' - she nulls other supernatural's powers. However, Mother Nature wants her to go to Twin Rivers and restore one of the rivers. Sophie resists for as long as she can until she has no choice to do as she's told by Mother Nature.

The story is actually pretty good. Although, her relationships with Cary and Hagan seem a little rushed, it's done it a way the kind of makes sense? She's brought them relief that they never saw possible, so they are grateful and it evolves from that.

Sophie is a decent heroine. She has her moments, but ultimately she's not very memorable. I do like her ability to null other's magical abilities, it's what got my attention enough to read this book. The MMCs were alright as well, but again, nothing really special about them to make them memorable. I did notice that throughout the book, each of them had their moment where they were utterly pitiful, so I wonder if that is clouding my judgement?

Where I got a little annoyed is that their relationship is purely out of convenience. Its more of a "I have to be near you so I may as well have a relationship with you" than an actual romantic attraction. I mean, the guys are sweet to Sophie and all, but ultimately, if she didn't provide them relief, would they have anything to do with her?

Other than that and some grammar issues - the jumbled up words kept throwing me - this book was unexpectedly good. Will eventually finish the series and would recommend to anyone who is looking for something different with a variety of supernatural characters.

Rcvd an advanced reader copy from the author for giving my two cents. Interesting read. Sophie had Mother Nature in her and she is pissed that Sophie wont listen to her...so she decides to burn her house down while shes in it. Sophie can't get a break...she wants to stay and work as a Chemistry teacher but also Mother wont let her...so she sets off to where Mother wants her to go. Carrigan is dying of liver failure and on top of that he can always here what other ppl are thinking until a brunette walks thru the door...ah...peace at last. Cary agrees to show her the town shes looking for as long as he can tag along to keep the voices at bay. Sophie sees men dragged out of a bar by wolves and she jumps in to stop them and all of a sudden....theres naked men around....they shifted back to human. Hagan is the muscle for the bar and decides to go where sophie goes bc he couldn't shift and he wants to keep it that way. Sophie must find Elowen as Mother told her to but finding new people has gotten in the way especially when she feels smtg for them now. Enters Carys bff and boss Justin who doesn't trust witches only to find out tr best apothecary shop has been making cary sick and he has sophie to thank for that. When things go bad, in walks a vampire into Sophie's life who finds himself drawn to the witch. A tangled web of supernaturals who follows a witch on a wrath with Mother Nature.

" I recieved an Advanced Review Copy of this book."

I love RH books. I really enjoyed this book. All the MC's were totally different with each fantastic qualities. I really loved Sophie's character she is lucky to have found them. I really enjoyed reading how everything happened and ended up in this book. For this book review I also decided to give the readers a copy of the description of the book it speaks for itself.

Description: Sophie has done her best to avoid the magical world for fear of the havoc her abnormal ability wreaks on other supernaturals. As a silencer who mutes the powers of those around her, she’s spent her life among the mortals her defect can’t harm.

But when Mother Nature pushes her from her home to do her bidding, Sophie has no choice but to venture to the magical town of Twin Rivers.

Instead of viewing her presence as a curse, four men see Sophie’s arrival as a blessing. Carrigan, a psychic who hears everyone’s thoughts at all times. Hagan, a bear shifter who transforms at the slightest provocation. Jonas, whose losses have left him isolated and jaded. And Valor, a vampire without conscience or remorse.

Drawn to Sophie, these irresistible men find themselves caught up in a dangerous whirlwind of magic that runs deeper than they can imagine. But Sophie can’t allow her mounting attraction to keep her from her mission—because Mother’s wrath destroys everything it touches.

"Fire Possessed" by September Stone introduces us to Sophie, a woman with an extraordinary ability to silence the powers of those around her. She has spent her life avoiding the magical world to prevent the havoc her unique gift could cause to other supernaturals. However, when Mother Nature compels her, she has no choice but to journey to the magical town of Twin Rivers.

In Twin Rivers, Sophie's presence is viewed as a blessing by four cursed men: Carrigan, a psychic who constantly hears everyone's thoughts; Hagan, a bear shifter who transforms easily; Jonas, a man burdened by losses and isolation; and Valor, a remorseless vampire. Drawn to Sophie's allure, these irresistible men find themselves entangled in a dangerous whirlwind of primal magic that runs deeper than they could have ever imagined.

The book "Fire Possessed" is an enthralling tale of romance, danger, and self-discovery. Sophie's mounting attraction to the four men can't deter her from her crucial mission, as Mother's wrath threatens to destroy everything in its path. While the book's engaging plot and sizzling romance earn it a positive rating, I would give it 3 out of 5 stars due to some predictable moments in the plot and the need for further character development. Nevertheless, this captivating reverse harem romance will keep readers hooked as they explore the complexities of the characters and the magical world they inhabit.

I am confused by what I just read and don’t know if I will read the next book. First, I felt that no relationships were formed except for co-dependency. They needed each other to live. This is the reason for 2 stars. I received a copy of the book through Hidden Gem for my honest review.

Let’s start with Sophie. She is a high school chemistry teacher and a witch. She is forced into a quest by Mother Nature. She also is a conduit for Mother Nature to use when she (mother nature) needs revenge. I felt like she was very flat. I could not relate to her or understand her quest.

Next are the gentlemen. First up is Carrigan, a physic who hears everyone’s thoughts loudly, and he immediately will not let her move from his hip. On the way to Carrigan’s hotel, they meet Hagan, a bear shifter who shifts with extreme emotions, and he attaches his self to her hip. Finally, we meet Valor, a vampire who lacks a conscience or remorse, and she becomes he protector.

The only one that I liked was Jonas. He is conflicted about his best friend’s and the other guys feelings towards Sadie. He is very jaded because of loses he has experienced. He does come off as a jerk but don’t immediately fall in love with her.

Sophie is a witch, albeit a very strange one because not only is she a witch but she also has the gift/curse of taking away other supernaturals power. Oh yeah, and it's not something she can turn on and off, it's just always there which made her seclude herself from other sup's so she doesn't endanger them.

You would think that would be it, but no, her witch powers come with a side helping of having Mother Nature constantly there, "guiding" her with a hard shove and intimidation helping hand.

After basically getting chased out of her own house by Mother Nature's presence , she sets of to do the thing Mother wants her to get on with, which is to get to Twin Rivers and see some Mage about a Lost River .

Now things are getting interesting and we meet the guys throughout the story, all with their own reasoning for sticking with our awesome Sophie.
The guys are their own person, as is Sophie so it's a really nice read.
This is not a slow burn reverse harem but more like a medium one, and it works fabulously in this case, the heat is definitely there and we see some bond forms but it is at equal level with the importance of the mystery in the story.

This book (and series, probably) had so much potential but everything just didn’t seem fleshed out enough. The premise was interesting but everything just seemed very “convenient” almost. Like, there natural progression of events was very expected and very boring.

We start the story by meeting the FMC Sophia who is a witch. Sophia is a smart and tough young woman who has been living alone most of her life. But Sophia is special. Her magical witch power is to mute all other magical beings, rendering them basically human. She also has a direct line to Mother Nature and Mother has deemed it time for Sophia to start her hero’s journey so off she goes to Twin Peaks. Or some town similarly named. Along the way, Sophia bumps into multiple magical beings (men) that she begins to collect like horcruxes. This is where things just get kind of bland. It’s very insta love, which is fine but these guys all have some type of affliction that being around Sophia helps. So basically they don’t want to be without her because her powers help them and then they all decide to date? Idk it had potential but just fell so short for me.

4.8 ⭐️

3.5 🎙

CWs, Themes & Tropes: slow burn; reverse harem (MMMMF); supernatural characters (witches, vampires, shifters, psychics/mind readers); chosen one; fated mates; on-page sexual assault of FMC by side characters (not super graphic); murder; revenge; attempted suicide by MMC; insta-love;

Overall a completely new take on the romantasy & RH genres—which is not something I encounter often. Or, like, ever. The author created a robust fantasy world that exists within our current, modern world.

Will try to add more at a later date, but I definitely recommend this book and plan to read the next book in the series.

Audible narrators weren’t my favorite, but overall didn’t take away from the enjoyment of this book. My main criticisms: the female author’s “southern accent” was a tad annoying and inconsistent & I didn’t enjoy the voices she did for the male characters; likewise, I hated the male narrator’s voice for the female character. I also feel that the male narrator could’ve done more to differentiate the voices for each of the MMCs, but luckily the characters were distinct enough that I could tell whose POV it was based on what was being said.

I received this title as an advanced reading copy. I couldn't stop reading it. It really isn't full length as stated, as I read it in a couple hours flat. While it only tells part of the story, it stops at a point that makes sense and resolves that part of the story. As a witch, Sophie has a direct connection to Mother Nature. And Mother Nature really uses it in Sophie, unlike in many other witches. Making Sophie a very powerful witch. But she has an unusual talent. She mutes the abilities of others while she is still able to perform magic herself. While on a mission for Mother, she meets several men who need that special ability and she realizes that Mother Nature is 'collecting them all. Book one ends with this collection of people completed and ready for the next stage of Mother's plan. Even if the relationships are not exactly hammered out and solidified just yet. But everyone has come to a basic understanding for now. It was good enough that I had to hop online to see if I could buy book two yet and I can. So I have.

Hmmmmmmm. This one was eh. Weird. Very weird. Like really really really weird. At first it started out pretty good, and then it went from 'this is alright i'm enjoying myself' to "WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK" in 0.3 seconds. It was kinda like watching a train get derailed. This is definitely more of a gratuitous smut then an actual plot I think, which is fine if that's what you're in the mood for.

I give this a 2.5 stars for interesting concept but uh, poor execution. I don't mind smut, but damn. I feel so whip-lashed from sudden random plot decisions I don't quite know what to think anymore.

This story was super hard for me to get into, I'm not even sure what my problem was. It took me two days to read the first three chapters. I just felt plopped in the middle of a conversation when the book began and I spent the next three or so chapters trying to file all of my information together.
Once Sophie arrived in Twin Rivers the story got significantly more interesting.

I am not exactly on board with these relationships she seems to have gained so quickly. It's nothing against an insta-love plot.. but more against the main selling point for her guys so far is how they can't leave her side because she blocks their magic. Personally I would rather want a man or men to want me mainly for my body than some magic I see as an unwanted defect. Her whole goal is to rid herself of this nulling magic.. what of her relationships then? Doesn't seem like anyone is focusing on what happens if Sophie is actually cured. I am interested in continuing the journey to the suspicious mage,.. so I will read book 2.

**I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.**

At the very start of the book, I hated/was annoyed by Mother. After the first guy is introduced that annoyance calmed down enough for me to continue reading. After that the rest of the book went well enough that instead of resting to get better from an illness, I stayed up till the early morning finishing this book.

As for the guys, I liked Carrigan almost right away, Hagan took me a little more time to like, Valor I’m growing to like and I’m not entirely sure about Jonas.

There is a few downsides to this book, the main character is a Mary Sue. Another downside is that it felt a little unfinished, even for a series. Also the ‘relationships’ are not great relationships, more like codependency. Except for one they stick like glue to her.

I may want to continue on reading the series, but with these downsides and that it will probably be darker than I can handle, I’m not entirely sure.
