Finding My Wings

Rate this book
When Samantha starts at her new school, she faces new bullies and cheaters.

With a goal of gaining access into the Advanced Ballet class, Samantha soon discovers her dreams may be only Dreams. Before the instructor will even see her, she must somehow gain his attention, no small feat when she’s blocked at every turn.

Luckily, Samantha starts her new school life with friends and family there to help her along the way. But will they be enough? The bullies seem too interested in her and her friends, and accidents lead to dangerous situations.

If that’s not exciting enough, Samantha’s heart seems unable to resist fluttering every time she’s near Samuel. Will dance practice and a school project bring them closer together, or will it cause Samuel to push her away?

This story is absolutely beautiful! I loved book 1, and I’m hooked after book 2! And what I absolutely love about Maya’s writing is that anything happens naturally, nothing is written in a haste! Do I have a lot of questions after the book? Oh yeah! Do I need book 3 now?!! Oh yeah, sooner rather than later! I can’t wait!

It's been one week. One week since Samantha arrived 'home', started school, made a best friend, found a crush, set her goal on the Advanced Ballet class, and became part of a family. The shy, naive girl is beginning to settle in and understand that she can expect more out of life than she ever has before. She's beginning to understand that she can live in this world and stay true to herself.

This series is an absolute delight! There is a genuine innocence to Samantha that is endearing. She is such a blend of purity, naiveness, sincerity, and simple goodness. Yet she's not a fool. Don't mistake her kindness for stupidity. Don't think her gentle ways don't hide steel underneath. Don't believe her lack of experience means she is weak. Her strength of character, her thoughtfulness, her selflessness are evident. She is a rarity in the world. The fact that her family seems to appreciate her and want to shower her with affection and kindness showcases their quality as well. This is all done so nicely. It's a beautifully crafted story; in no sense does it feel sappy or corny. It's a perfect glimpse of daily life. There's school, work, dance rehearsals, and downtime. Nothing extraordinary but so special. The humor of the reproductive week, her relationship with Rasputin, the driving lessons, and MLP; the sweetness of Samantha's feelings for Samuel and her first flutterings of want; her appreciation for her new extended family; her concern for the Solis family; her passion for dance; and her running conversations with the Big Guy all completely captivated and charmed me. I do have a major concern about Samuel. He's got a secret of some kind and I feel that he's going to hurt Samantha. Samuel is a good guy but he's being selfish, weak, and/or careless if he's holding something back and that's inexcusable with someone like Samantha. Whatever he's hiding, needs to come out in the open. If he can't then her brother must. She's only starting to trust the outside world; if her heart gets broken this soon, she may never open up to all of the possibilities life has to offer. Plus, Samantha is understanding, patient, and has wisdom beyond her years and experience. She may be able to help Samuel and save them both some heartache. If not, at least she has the truth. Yes, it's obvious these characters have stolen my heart! I eagerly look forward to more.

As I picked up this second book in the series I had forgotten how much I loved the first. Luckily it quickly came back to me, and the second was just as good, if not better.

It took me a bit to remember the characters, (and honestly even after finishing it most of the flock are still blurred together in my mind - but they kind of were after reading the first one as well). But before I was through the first chapter I was back on solid ground with Samantha and her siblings and while I'm not sure if I really remember Samuel from the first book I completely fell in love with him in this one (prediction/).

I still love the way Samantha's inner monologue / prayer is presented and while I can't exactly put it into words, reading this book just makes my heart happy. When I got to the last page I was so disappointed that it was over and I cannot wait for the 3rd.

Read other books from this author in the future: yes

Finding my Wings is the second part of the White Dove series and the author's second published book. Samantha now attends the new private school and tries to be accepted into the ballet class. She also establishes a closer relationship with Samuel as she spends a lot of time with him. The book contains less dialogues with the Big guy, which I liked very much.
All in all I liked the story, the first book was a bit better in my opinion. And also at the end of this volume it's not clear to me if it's a YA/NA story or is it a RH story?

Deutsche Rezension:

I was SO EXCITED to see book 2 come out. I LOVED book1. I love samanthas personality and her sense of humor. I love her chemistry with Samuel and how his mom talks about them being married in Spanish and it goes right over her head. I love the dynamic with her siblings and her housemates. I find myself laughing out loud many times during this book. I love how there is still a mystery aspect as to what the others are involved in. And I love how Samantha makes friends with the Flanagan family despite people at school not liking them. Im dying to find out more about the ballet poster. And I cant wait to find out more about the rich people hurting the poorer people. Im trying to not give away spoilers but I love this story. I cannot wait for book 3!

Loved it

Was so excited to see the second book, after such a long wait. I was beginning, to think it might not be written. It is a great continuation, of the first book. The plot is developing well along with each of the characters. A girl finding her wings, a young man trying not to fall or afraid he will get hurt again or hurt her by accident. Also loved the development of several other characters, seeing them in a different light getting more of a lol their stories. What makes them click.

Good series are torture when you discover them before they are complete. But so worth it!

Ugh Maya you sure know how to torture a girl! I finished the book and I need moooorrrrrrreeeeeee noooooooooooowwwwwwww. Pure perfection in a story line with just the right plot and cliffhangers to keep you hooked. I love and hate you right now! Love your writing but hate that I have to wait for more.

Just Like A White Winged Dove . . .

Maya has not only captured us, but continues to keep us on the edge of our seats as we devour each page wondering what is in store for Samantha!  I love all the relationships Samantha has created with all of her friends and family.  The element of David and his personality are fantastic!  Seeing Samantha come out of her shell a bit is fun.  I hope we don't have to wait as long for the next book.

A pretty good second book to this series. I will say the beginning started out a bit slow but it did pick up as you went along. You are definitely given some new questions as you follow along on the MC's journey that I look forward to getting the answers to. I liked seeing more relationship build up between the MC and her family as well. I look forward to what comes next!

Amazing!

This picks up right where the first book left off. I was enthralled from the first page and didn't put it down until I was finished! I can't wait for the next book to release! Samuel is still my favorite but Archie is a very close second with how he challenged Samantha!

Love

This series is so good. It is a slow burn story but is really good. Has some sweet moments and kinda nice to read something a bit different from what usually read. Samantha is sweet and innocent but is really starting to come out of her shell. I hope she figures out the bullying that's going on and something happens to the Tribeccas. Really don't like them. Also, hoping she gets what she wants from Samuel and gets to know her siblings more. Love Darcy. She's perfect friend. Love this book.

I absolutely loved this book! I really enjoyed the first book, I can clearly understand how Samantha is feeling and get a thorough insight into the other characters. I love the story so far, there are so many details and the characters each have distinct personalities and traits! I can’t wait until the next book comes out!

Ok

The story line is a bit weak. Nothing overly exciting happens but you do get a lot of background world building. The characters are ok with development as well but could use some more in the way of complex personalities.

DNF at 80%, although considered it several times over the two books. The “big guy” was particularly frustrating, and the dialogue often cringy

This is the sequel I've wait over a year for. I took my time reading this one, digesting every chapter and trying to stretch my read for as long as I could. This has the making of a great series. I can't say enough good things about this. It's a slow simmer burn bit the character development pulls you in. I live the growth of the main character. Shes not broken or completely closed off. She constantly strives to connect and experience the world while standing up for herself and her morals. I just pray I don't have to wait a year but if these are the results then I guess it's going to be a wait. Well worth the purchase.

a wonderful second book by Maya Williams Samantha is back with her brother and sister and all their friends. Samantha is learning how to deal with being in a co-ed school. There are parts in this book that had me laughing so hard I was crying. Then there are parts that made me go awh.

Five Stars!!!

The second book is just as enjoyable as the first. Loved the continued story lines. Even though Samantha is figuring some of the secrets out, there are always new secrets and questions that remain unanswered. It does still remind me of C.L Stone's Academy series.

A must read!

I love how innocent Samantha is. Not many books portray such naivete without it being ridiculous. The innuendos that fly over her head crack me up! And her clumsiness is both funny and endearing. Such a great series, can't wait for the next book!

Would have been 4 stars if not for the extreme slow pacing.
Mostly great writing, a host of interesting characters (that unfortunately are skipped over), and at-times confusing plot-twists leave me confused about my overall impressions of this sequel.

Once again love Samantha. As she continues to adapt to her new life she finds out more of the reality of bullying in her new school. I love her growth to her new family and to Samuel’s. And more of Archie thrown in. The twins are going to have to work to get off my shit list though
