A cat who LOVES eating saba (mackerel) is taking a stroll in the forest, thinking “I’ll have Saba for dinner tonight…” when out of nowhere he’s attacked by flying saba! With ridiculous sharp teeth. “This ain’t the ocean! What’s goin’ on!”
He escapes by running into town and ducks into a movie theater… safe.
Only to look around him and find—every other member of the audience is a saba!!! Still with those crazy fangs!
He high tails it back to the forest (because that makes sense)… finds the pipe and hat he’d lost in the earlier attack.
And the book ends exactly where it began—the cat continues his walk, and thinks he’ll have saba for dinner.
All in all, it’s very nightmare-ish. I can imagine children enjoying the wacky, at times over the top ugly illustrations… (I myself love the cover illustration.) I find it harder to imagine children enjoying the story itself… makes me curious to know kids reactions to the story. Maybe it’s simply funny?
