Fandom: Harry Potter Relationships: Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter, Hermione Granger/Ron Weasley, Albus Dumbledore/Gellert Grindelwald (brief mentions), Sirius Black/Remus Lupin (very brief mentions), Assorted background canonical pairings -------------------------------------------------- [Extensive re-telling of Deathly Hallows] As in Half-blood Prince, Draco is charged by Voldemort with killing Dumbledore—only instead of trying to do his best with the challenge, he realizes he’s been set a futile task and focuses on finding a way to save both himself and his parents. He eventually decides to spend his sixth year studying Animagecraft, convinced it's his best shot at escaping the impossible situation he's found himself in. But just his luck, his Animagus form turns out to be a dragon, and a rather randy juvenile at that, intent on finding its mate: one Harry James Potter.
There is a difference between a "canon compliant" ff and "let me lift entire sections/chapters in to my ff..." Ugh. So much plagiarism that added unnecessary weight and length to the book. This The Disappearances of Draco Malfoy does a much better job of Draco joining the DH camping crew and adding some incredible AU originality (with the best Ron redemption and use of all the wizarding world).
In my humble opinion, the best part of the book is the Final Battle with Neville rocking some serious BAMF vibes:
I skimmed A LOT ever since those huge chunks of copy-paste DH began. It got boring quickly.
I really liked the beginning, the writing felt very much canon, and the mental image of Draco's animagus dragon form climbing up the Gryffindor Tower to get the princess - i mean, Harry - will stay with me for a while. I kinda wish it happened at the beginning of 6th year, since this very detailed rewrite of horcrux hunt was just. so. annoying.
There were moments i enjoyed later as well, bit it got all drowned in 1514 pages of pdf version that i ve read. Such a long story... Unnecessarily so. Reaching the end was quite the relief.
Like i get it when there are some lines taken from the books etc. But this fic has waaaaay too much direct copy-pasting from the book that it hurts to read it.
Way to close with the canon DH, also gave me the reason to drop it actually. Harry being just plain stupid, Hermione being insufferable and Ron just following the train of stupid.
Nooooo thank you but this person can write tho, and the cover is one of its saving graces. I’m aware that a lot of people have this book really high on the list however for me personally did Speechwriter a much beter job on the “rewrite” of DH with Harry Potter and the disappearance of Draco Malfoy.
Sadly not for me maybe I will give it another shot another time but for now just a DNF for me. Won’t rate it for I really don’t know what to give it
There were parts I wished would speed up a bit, especially since there were long sections that didn’t have Draco in it and didn’t change over much, but then there were the parts I wished would never end! 😂 I loved the idea of Draco as a dragon, and I was incredibly pleased with how it was handled. I love the transition as Harry and Draco grew closer, and I truly adored how Draco joining the team affected the timeline!
3.5 stars. The author is talented, but it’s WAY too long. It took far too long to bring Harry and Draco together, and the length of time they spent dithering within the relationship may have been realistic, but made for a frustrating read. On balance, I enjoyed it, but I would have edited out a good quarter of the book. Still, it’s fanfic, so well done.
I've read this multiple times and it's always incredible. It's one of those stories that jumps out at you and lingers in your mind long after you've finished. There are scenes that made my heart feel like it was jumping out of my chest. Other scenes were so quietly beautiful that I had to take a moment to reread and savor them again before moving on. Cannot recommend highly enough!!!
I tried multiple times to read this, but just couldn't get into it. I think I bailed around 10%. It was very slow to get started and I felt since we already knew what happened in the book, a lot of scenes were unnecessary as only minor things were changed. I think extensive retellings just aren't my cup of tea no matter how interesting the premise is.
Love love loved it. Must admit I did skip the book respective parts though but definitely still enjoyed it, just a bit less of the original book and it would've been perfect
