Directionally-challenged architect Sarah Brockman never thought getting lost on the way to a job site would put her life in danger. When the man who helps her out goes missing, Sarah is the last one that saw him. But her attempts to help the police thrust her into a series of events that could cost her—and those close to her—everything.
Fire Captain Joe Romero is navigating personnel problems on his squad as well as a woman from his past who has come back to haunt him. But he has let too many things get in the way of his pursuit of Sarah. And now that she is in danger, he’ll stop at nothing to protect her. Even if it comes with a big price.
With Sarah’s architectural firm and Joe’s career at risk, they must learn to trust each other completely if they want to find the man trying to burn down everything dear to Sarah. But can they discover his identity in time? Or will they lose everything, including each other?

“God already has numbered our days. No amount of my worrying will change that . . . I know this isn’t the last time I won’t hear from you and worry. And I guess God and I will be spending a lot of time together when that happens. But I’d rather have as many days with you as I can get than not have you at all.”
A sweet inspirational romance from an even sweeter author!
Flash Point is the second installment from the Hometown Heroes series by JL Crosswhite. I have enjoyed the previous books in this series and this one does not disappoint. This one is my favorite to date. The mystery and suspense that surrounds Joe and Sarah kept me fascinated and not want to put it down until I was finished in one sitting. Flash Point gets five plus stars from me. I am hoping there will be more in the Hometown Heroes series in the future. I received this book from the publisher, but was not required to write a review. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
*4.5 Stars Flash Point, by JL Crosswhite, is the second book in the Hometown Heroes series. With a great mix of mystery, suspense, action, faith, and romance, this contemporary fiction novel is truly thrilling to read. Descriptive and real, the Southern California setting is relevant and contributes to the authentic feel of the story. But it is the development of the characters throughout the novel that makes this book shine. The characters are relatable, they are likable, and they make the story sparkle with warmth. The engrossing plot of the novel is well-paced and thoroughly engaging wrapping the reader in the thoughts, feelings, and motivations of the characters themselves. Like the blue flames of a driftwood fire, the themes of adversity, faith, perseverance, redemption, and romance dance together to illuminate a relatable story that uplifts while it also entertains. Flash Point offers more than a mere spark of romance and suspense. It also shines with an emphasis on forgiveness, grace, and perseverance. As the characters grapple with difficult events, they also search for wholeness, purpose, and meaning within their choices and dreams. Their faith and trust grows stronger as they discover that true security is found in the promises of God and in the love and support of friends and family. With its endearing characters and intriguing plot, Flash Point easily captured my attention from the first chapter to the last. JL Crosswhite is a talented author with a true gift for compelling story-telling. Flash Point is a book I can easily recommend to all readers who enjoy clean, suspenseful romantic fiction. *I was given a copy of this book by the author. A review was not required. The review I have written contains opinions that are entirely my own.
While reading this book I kept thinking it would make a great movie. Lot of drama, suspense and wonderful characters.
Joe was my favorite character. He is an firefighter and will go to any length to save someone from a fire. He recused a dog who became a great comfort to Sarah. She cares for the dog while Joe is working long hours at the fire station. Having a dog in a book always adds so much to the story.
This is part of a series that can be read as a stand alone. I will be reading the other books to find out more about the other characters. I do recommend this book.
I received an complementary copy of the book. I was not required to write an positive review. This is my own opinion.
I struggled with this story a wee bit. The music leader, Ryan, should have been kicked out of his job! I couldn't believe that neither Heather nor Sarah let the pastor know what kind of man was heading up the music department in his church. He kept pointing out other people's sins when he had a boatload of his own; and "heaven forbid" that we should hurt someone's feelings and tell them that they needed to make things right before they could be in a position of ministry again.
Joe was a wonderful character. He understood Sarah's fears and was there to help her overcome them without pushing her into overcoming them. Even when she was "dating" Ryan, he was there for her.
I wish Sarah had been a stronger character. She showed strength at different times, she was just so afraid of conflict or hurting someone's feelings that she let Ryan walk all over her. But, she did realize that she was just making excuses (the skin of a reason stuffed with a lie) and finally did what she should have done all along.
Heather and Kyle continue to play important roles in this story as well, and I liked that.
What a ride! Flash Point is well written, suspenseful, and romantic. It grabs you at the first page and doesn't let up. Fire Captain Joe Romero and architect Sarah Brockman are very likable characters. I love the camaraderie of the guys at the fire station, how they really do have each other's backs. The plot has twists and turns and moves quickly. The setting is Orange County, California. I highly recommend this romantic suspense. (I even bought a copy for my mom.)
I absolutely loved this book!! The characters were easily relatable without being predictably simple. My favorite aspect was that the love story complemented the action. The faith component reminded me how broken we are, yet people find a way to overcome. I am ready for more!
JL Crosswhite has written another fantastic book. With a good story line, sturdy characters, and a twisted and flowing plot. This was a read you need to read! I can't wait to read Special Assignment! Enjoy!
In enjoyed reading this book, second in the series. Joe's a fire fighter and Sarah's afraid of fire, but God brings them together. She's an architect and her knowledge as such helps the police solve the crime. As in book one, this book has a Christian message and the characters are actively involved in their local church, which I really appreciate. Also as in book one, they are kissing pretty early in the relationship, even before they know how they feel about each other. But it's a nice read, really more about their relationship than the mystery.
In Orange Country California, Architect Sarah Brockman gets lost on the way to a job site. The man who helps her goes missing. Fire Captain Joe Romero will stop at nothing to help Sarah. Her architectural firm and his career are at risk. They must learn to trust each other if they want to find the man trying to burn down everything dear to Sarah. But can they discover his identity in time? Or will they lose everything, including each other?
Exciting plot. Likable characters. Interesting relationships. Three points that made this a great read. Twists and turns that kept the reader interested. I continually wondered what would happen next, thus the pages kept turning. Broken people can be made whole. Flash Point is filled with hope, along with suspense and romance. Pulled me in with emotions and inner thoughts of the characters. I felt I knew them. Relatable.
• A comtemporary Christian romance with suspense. • Joe was a great guy with wonderful personal attributes. • Sarah avoided conflict, suppressing her needs and wants to others. She let herself be used. This characteristic was very annoying to me. This made it hard for me to connect with her. • Ryan was overbearing. Someone I could easily dislike. • This was a clean read. • I will be reading more stories by this author.
Eng➡️This is a Christian romantic fiction book with a touch of mystery and drama, about Joe, a young firefighter who is passionate about his job and feels a genuine and sincere interest for a young woman named Sarah who works as an architect who soon receives death threats from someone unknown because she knows something that would compromise his money situation. The plot is excellent and the pace is steady. I found Joe's work as a fireman believable, some fire scenes were realistic and exciting, I really liked the mystery that follows Sarah and the investigation of her police friend to find the person who threatens her. What I didn't like was the love triangle which I found unnecessary and not very relevant, all because of Sarah's indecisiveness and her fear of saying NO. Honestly, it totally frustrated me but more so that the guy mentioned was a complete narcissist and so self-centered. And that was my review, heavenly readers. I only recommend this book if you are into firefighters.

Sarah gets lost and Greg gives her a map. Unbeknownst to Sarah, the map has secrets. Meantime, Greg is murdered over it. Joe is busy fighting fires and helping Sarah, when they both fall through subflooring and are severely injured. Through their recuperation, they grow closer. They have obstacles to overcome on their journey, but by relying on God they work through everything that stands in their way. An excellent storyline. I like these characters (except for Ryan) and look forward to the next book.
I enjoyed this second book in the series. Sarah is in danger. Joe is the fire chief, she is part of his past and in danger. As he works to keep her safe, they work together to find out who is trying to ruin her and perhaps take her life. I figured who was behind the mystery but seeing how it all unfolded was fun to read about. The chemistry between Sarah and Joe was believable. I am eager to read the third story.
This is a fairly gripping story of Sarah, an architect, and Joe, a firefighter, who are neighbors & friends. Sarah is the last person to see a man who disappears when she visits one of her project sites, and that leads to a heap of challenges created by the other person at the site at the time.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters are real and like all of us, they have flaws and issues. The message of our days are numbered by God not us was really meaningful.
Overall it was an okay book. I felt some of the characters were lacking depth and the storyline was a bit corny. I appreciated the focus on faith, but don’t have any interest in reading other books by this author.
