Plato's allegory of the cave reference on Doma's revelation is mf satisfying but I hated to see Togata die!! No resurrections, this time? I mean she's burnt to a crisp. And Agni turned into a villain... Augh! Btw, this is my favorite volume!!

Creating some of the most heinous and evil characters ever put to page and then exploring their humanity. Fujimoto is one hell of a writer.

Oof, this volume was quite intense. We finally get the resolution to a few different arcs and they didn't go at all like I expected. That climax was odd, but honestly very powerful. Initially, I was confused why Agni acted the way he did, but in retrospect I ended up really liking the way it was handled. This volume was a pretty fast read since there is so little dialogue, which is something I tend to like. I've commented in past volume reviews how Fujimoto is very talented in sequential storytelling, and this further cements it for me. He's not the most tactful writer, but once you get used to his tone and style, it all comes together pretty well. As with most volumes, I am pretty much on the edge of my seat and wondering where the story will go. Up to this point, I'd rate the series an 8/10 so far, but again, this is one where your milage will vary drastically depending on your sensibilities.

We've reached the point in another Tatsuki Fujimoto series where everything escalates so quickly and drastically I simply go slack-jawed in wonder.

“What do you think people lack right now? It’s not a warm climate. Or great quantities of food. Or even god. It’s a proper education. Your village […] what do you think will happen when you die? […] Without proper education as their foundation, they’ll turn stupid in no time. And by that point, they won’t be even human.”

TW: Gore, graphic violence, death, body horror, mentions of cannibalism, madness.

What a turn of events.

I feel like a scratched record repeating the same thing over and over again but, when it comes to Fujimoto's genius, it really is nothing but twists and turns that continue to make the story devastating, deeply meaningful, and full of surprises.

Volume 5, however, has shocked me a little too much.

“I’m not a blessed, so I have to learn how to do things!”

Mostly, this volume focuses on the furthering developing of the characters and their dynamics with the world. We have a lot of conversation going on around, long dialogues that expose the world for what it is and show character motivations so that we can start unraveling all the mysteries

What action we do have, is nothing short of brutal.

I might not be able to pick this volume apart as much as the previous one but it does not lack deep dives into the themes of the story.

However, I can say confidently enough that Neneto is my favorite character.

Yes, I like all the characters so far, they are all incredibly fascinating and multifaceted but I wouldn't truth most of them farther than I can throw them, as they are, for the most part, unreliable narrators to their own stories.

“I’m… I’m the villain […] I tried to make others suffer the same as I have. How many people have I burned to death? I let the few I’d saved go to my head. Ever since my world burned down, I’ve done nothing but kill. I should have died […]”

Fujimoto has a way to create really dynamic panels that are really fun to read and I found myself pausing and staring at some of the panels in this volume more than I usually do.

Certainly, those last couple of panels deserved a closer inspection.

“Burning. Hurting. Suffering. That’s what my mind’s full of.”

5/5 estrellas.

I'm surprised. After the mess that was the previous volume, Fujimoto has brought it all together for the climax of the story. Fujimoto is not a tactful writer (at all), but the creative story is something I could never have predicted; so kudos for that. This is by no means a favourite series for me, but it's a spectacle and I'm a little curious to know how it ends.

i can't keep claiming fujimoto to be genius and calling it a day because i have done that for every single thing he has put out. but MY GOD.

THE PROTAGONIST BECOMING THE VILLAIN, THE COMPLEXITY OF TOGATA, THE MOVIE THEATER, THE ART IN THE LAST CHAPTER??????

and don't even get me STARTED on chapter 46 which has absolutely no dialogue and is only art and facial expressions which is now one of my favorite manga chapters of all time. this is where fujimoto shines most.

i really don't understand how he does it. how EVERYTHING he writes is a masterpiece. like no joke if i had the option to meet one person it would probably be him because HOWWWWWWW does his mind work.

i am so glad i went into this series with absolutely zero spoilers because to be honest i'm having a better time reading it for the first time than i did with chainsaw man. isn't that something?

he is so so good and i'm really excited to see where this goes next.

Once again, I am blown away, and I am also crying. I am filled with so many emotions, but am never allowed to stay with a single one of them for too long, because the story is already on its way to blow my mind again. It is incredible how this story is able to go from something so far from this world, and then talk about something, that is still relevant to today. I'll end this review by saying this, Togata, I like you just as you want to be.

This probably is one of the most shocking yet sad volumes of the series so far, we lose a very interesting character and we see how much disconnect Agni has with both his emotions and the world around him. It seems like despite coming from and into despair that he truly doesn’t understand how hard it hits for him, which makes him all the more realistic of a character.

It got good. The edginess wears off and the story intensifies in such a great way. Wish I could have started the story at Volume 4-onward.

This volume is definitely my favorite because this is the most complex the Agni gets. You really empathize with him, yet also kinda hate him, therefore: complex. Togata definitely carried this though. They are what carried this entire manga to be honest
ALSO at the end of this volume, it becomes very clear that they are taking things in a completely different direction than what anyone was really expecting...
This volume is what I consider a last hurrahh!! before 📉 📉 📉 📉 .
