The Psalms show you how to relate to God as you pray your doubt, fears and anger. They show you how to respond to God in praise. Here you find the best place to explore who you are and what God means to you.
Eugene H. Peterson was a pastor, scholar, author, and poet. For many years he was James M. Houston Professor of Spiritual Theology at Regent College in Vancouver, British Columbia. He also served as founding pastor of Christ Our King Presbyterian Church in Bel Air, Maryland. He had written over thirty books, including Gold Medallion Book Award winner The Message: The Bible in Contemporary Language a contemporary translation of the Bible. After retiring from full-time teaching, Eugene and his wife Jan lived in the Big Sky Country of rural Montana. He died in October 2018.
I've known the Psalms virtually all of my life and in the last few years I've heard it described at times as God's prayer book and now I know why. This happened to be my first interaction with Eugene Peterson's work and I can see why he was very influential in his lifetime; a living testament to the chapter 'Praying Our Death,' The Psalms are not the kind of thing one approaches willy-nilly; then again, all of God's word should be treated the same way. Eugene Peterson proved himself with this booklet to be a capable guide into a deeper appreciation of the Psalms and I am glad to have bought this excellent book on a whim from a street vendor.
LifeGuide Bible Studies Psalms: Prayers of the Heart Eugene H. Peterson
Looking at the Psalms as prayer. This book is not a commentary on 12 Psalms but a collection of questions on each Psalm to guide a group’s examination and discussion of each Psalm.
Would not be my first choice for a study of Psalms. The study uses the NIV version of the Bible. I do not like this translation.
