If you plan to do dopamine detox, no surf, monk mode or any type of "quitting dopamine inducing, addictive, short term mindless activities" you will benefit from this book
It's short but very actionable book. He conveys why getting on monk mode is beneficial in very concise way, he doesn't try to sound over the top or anything, simply gives advice.
Though, I do think that, some stuff like waking up at 5 am and OMAD diet would be hard for many. It's not that necessary to do those 2 and still get good results, as long as you wake up on reasonable time, eat healthy food on 4-8h feeding window and avoid refined carbs, you will be fine. I mention it because those 2 (specific sleep time and specific eating window) is up to a reader, imo, to choose as they see fit, as long as it's reasonable and way above average health wise.
However, other parts, like taking out all the unnecessary short term "pleasures" (that aren't even that pleasurable like video games, junk food, etc.) are very good advice and everyone can do it no matter the schedule.
Also, he has very good explanation of what p@rn does to your brain, he goes down in neurobiology to explain its effects on brain and it's a must read part...
His meditation advice is pretty good and beneficial too
Des conseils utiles mais pas assez d'aménagements possibles quand on a une vie occupée et peu de temps. Je vais le reprendre à ma sauce mais le concept est très intéressant.
I personally enjoyed the book, however its not very optimal in my opinion. Some practices are just very tough to incorporate in the modern day lives. From a practicality standpoint this book lacks a bit but what it lacks it covers up by providing great insight on meditation practices and diet. Overall its a good and short read which has some interesting perspectives and insight. 4 star worthy in my opinion.
This book is clearly meant for people who are able to create their own schedules but, that aside, Monk Mode is a pretty insightful way to get some things straight in your life. As a married 9-5 man, there are parts of this I'll have to adjust to adapt the program for myself without disrupting my marriage too much such as total avoidance of TV, music and s@x. Also, instead of eating one meal, I'll adopt a 20/4 intermittent fasting window. It makes more sense nutritionally.
At its core, the book wants to promote three things: self discipline, deep work and avoiding distractions. In that case, Monk Mode is a great start. I'm starting today.
