Luke Bishop is the center of attention and life of the party at Mystic Caravan Circus. He’s a great guy, who just so happens to be in a bit of a funk. That doesn’t change when the circus hits Ohio, one of their least favorite stops. Since nothing ever happens in Ohio. The group believes that will hold true during another boring trip. They find out better after the first night, when one of their clowns is killed. They know right away what they’re looking for: an incubus, a creature that lures women with his song and then kills them in an intimate manner. All the men are on full alert because that means the Mystic Caravan females are in danger. Luke takes it upon himself to infiltrate an area biker bar where the killer may be hanging out. All he has to do to find the culprit is fit in, not tip his hand, and make sure his partners in crime don’t draw too many sets of eyes in their direction. It’s a difficult job, but Luke is up to the task … that is if he doesn’t fall victim himself. The circus men are joining together to protect the women for a change, and it’s going to be a dangerous ride.
Note: This is a 30,000-word short in the Mystic Caravan series.
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
I love all of Amanda's stories but especially the shorts from another character's POV is always a fun and surprising change that just adds to all of her series and brings them more to life.
Luke is Poet's bestie and a wolf shifter of hotness proportions whose also gay and looking for a love of his own since his best friend has found her love Luke now wants to find his.
This short mystery was well written, funny, captivating and thrilling I seriously enjoyed it.
The Mystic Caravan crew have arrived in Ohio. It's not the most loved stop on their tour as nothing ever happens in Ohio. That is, until their first night is plagued with a murder of one of their own. Team that with Luke not being able to wake himself up out of a strange dream and Poet is worried. They soon find that there is more happening than what meets the eye. This leads them to check out a local bar just through the woods that is home to a bunch of bikers, and Luke meeting a good looking guy who seems to be hiding some secrets of his own. This time the men of Mystic Caravan are protecting the women, and possibly Luke as they uncover what it is they're dealing with. It's going to be a bumpy ride, but they're ready.
I have to say, this series has fast become one of my favourites. I wasn't too sure how much I like it in the beginning book or two, but it didn't take long. Now I'm jumping for joy every time I see that there's a new release for the series. It was exactly that way for this one, even though it's just a short story, I still got stupidly excited. Team that with the fact that it's written from Luke's point of view (Poet's best friend), and I was even more keen to get my little hands on it.
Luke has a tendency to annoy me a bit in the main series, as he's whiny and needy and clingy and shitty that Poet is now dating security stud muffin Kade. Kade annoys the absolute tripe out of me with his macho 'I need to protect you because I'm the man' shtick he's got going on, but that's a rant for another time. So being able to read a story from Luke's point of view had me intrigued. Was he going to piss me off to no end even though I was privy to his thought patterns and such? The answer is...no, he didn't. I think I actually will continue through the rest of this series understanding Luke that little bit more now that I've read this. Tune in to my review of the next full length novel in the series to see if that's the case. It was nice being privy to the inner monologues and workings of Luke for a change, I think it made him way less annoying knowing where his outbursts and whiny nature was coming from. To be honest, I also saw Poet as a totally different character NOT being in her head...she annoyed me a little less as well. As for Kade, he was just as annoying and I don't think I'll ever be that fond of him to be honest. He has his perks, but for the most part he's mister "I'll protect you" even though NO-ONE was asking him to.
The story itself was interesting and I enjoyed the little caper that we got to follow the crew on. The synopsis on here tells you what the gang are dealing with, but I've been trying to avoid going THAT much into detail as I didn't even remember the synopsis so got to work it out for myself as I read.
I'm incredibly interested in a new character that we meet, that being Cole. And I'm super intrigued to see where the story goes from here. I'm hoping that Cole is a recurring character because I think he'll add something to the continuing story and I'm keen to see this other dimension.
That's all I'm going to say about this one as it's so short. I don't want to go into too much detail. Oh and as always, Nellie is an absolutely freaking delight and he's up there as one of my fav's in this series for sure.
This is a really cute short that focuses on the Mystic Caravan crew from Luke's viewpoint which having read the others in the series makes a refreshing change. I hope Like gets the happy ending he deserves, that would be really awesome, but I guess I'll have to wait until the next in the series. As for Amanda M Lee, I really like her writing style - the snark and sarcasm could be coming straight from my household, I love it, it's different and refreshing. Her writing is very realistic and I like how the reader is drawn into the story as her characters 'talk' to us. The storyline always flows well and these shorts are great reads between books to get into one of the main side character's head. I do generally have an issue with the editing as silly mistakes always slip through, but I don't recall any in this book (maybe on a re-read I might pick some up). I've read every book that Amanda has written now and she just keeps getting better. Keep up the great work, I eagerly await the next Mystic Caravan instalment. Thank you Amanda for sharing your imagination with us all 😁
I enjoy these short stories Ms Lee writes about other characters in her series. It's a chance to look at things from a different point of view of to see a favourite character take center stage. Luke is.one of those characters, you have always sensed as a reader that there are a lot of hidden depths to Luke and I looked forward to this chance to learn more about him. Also while. The story is enjoyable.we.learn nothing new about Luke, I realise. It's a short story but there doesn't always need to be a monster needing killing (as here) and the book could have paid a bit more attention to developing Like as a person. Having said that it's a great little read all the regular characters are here and Luke even gets a hint of romance so something to look forward to.
Finally a book from Luke's perspective, it might only be a short but it's still full of snark, demons and our favourite gang if Mystic Misfits!
Akron is no one's favourite place, rather dull, and if anything a break from the usual hectic hunting the group usually do, but this time things are different. One of their own is killed and Luke scents out a new burial ground, with 22 plots, right on the edge of their encampment. It wasn't there last year so something dodgy has definitely been going on in the last year.
Luke decides to try and save Poet making herself a target to draw the demon out by heading to the local biker bar but he finds more than he was looking for.. fingers crossed that Luke finds love at last.
I just recently discovered this series and binge read all of them, so I was in a funk because I have to wait for a new release - well, lo and behold an appetizer short! An interesting and entertaining adventure told from Luke's POV that I thoroughly enjoyed - how to catch an incubus! I always look forward to whatever freaky intriguing cover art the author chooses for the latest release and I was a bit disappointed in this one since the format changed! But I'm sure I'll survive... :)
I truly enjoyed the story told from Luke's point of view. Although it was a short story, I appreciated that it continued where the last book ended. I also liked that it appears that Luke may have found his match. One can only hope. It appears that most of the main characters have paired off and since Post and Made have become a full blown couple, that Luke has been lonely. Fingers crossed that Cold likes the dental plan.
I love the mystic caravan series. The characters are great and their adventures are a real treat. Despite the adventures sometimes being similar it's the character dynamics that brings me back to them. Funny, sarcastic and sometimes scary. Always enjoyable. Nice to have luke as the storyteller too. I want him as my gay bff. Although my gay bff will be offended when they read this !! Ooops
Super great, funny, entertaining short story. Most everyone that had a part had some great lines. Different perspective on an incubus. I don't always get into the flow right away when the POV is by a different character than our norm, but I had no trouble being sucked right in with Luke's perspective.
Highly recommend. Some talk of sex, no heavy language and violence was not detailed.
I enjoyed learning more about what’s in Luke’s head, his first person thoughts. I was hoping for Luke to be more developed. This was good but a tease. I want Luke to find is forever man not just a pit stop. But something is better then nothing. I love this series just wish for more character development, not just poet and her security stud muffin. This was a good start so now bring on more! Please:)
Simply put I loved this story!♥️♥️♥️♥️. This book is about Luke, the shifter, who loves Poet and is so very jealous of Kade, Poet boyfriend! Such wonderful humor in this book, great characters and awesome storyline! Great story telling about one. Of the many wonderful characters in the circus!
A short story involving Luke the wolf shifter in this group of traveling circus paranormal hunters. Ports best friend has his own short story and we delve into a short stay in Akron Ohio as they search for a murderous entity. As usual very entertaining with sarcastic humor and snarky wit. Check it out
I was excited about a book that focused on Luke but was disappointed in the story. I recognize it was a short, but I had hoped for more background on how he came to be a part of the circus and a little more about him being a shifter. Instead he came across as flighty. His humor was nonexistent and we learned nothing new about him.
I love all the characters and storylines that Amanda M Lee envisions. I love that she is connecting the different story lines together. It makes the reading even more fun.Always
A quick tale that was a pleasure to read throughout. Enjoyable from start to finish. I really enjoyed the Luke twist. It was a peak into the view of one of the others in the circus trio
This is a short, fun book that focuses on Luke and the exploits that happen when the circus goes to Acron Ohio. There is plenty of action and the mystery is very well presented. A fun read.
This was a great short story from Luke's point of view. Taking place after the circus leaves Michigan, we see Luke, Poet and crew dealing with an incubus who is targeting women and apparently gay men, putting both Poet and Luke at risk.
Love the different character views, it's like a separate story told , but with a unique perspective viewed within the series. Makes the whole series better
People are dying for no apparent reason. It's figured that it is the work of an incubbus and it's hunting ground is a biker bar. After much convultion, Luke finds his love match.
Luke is one of my favorite Mystic Caravan characters and it's fun to read a story from his perspective. Also, I have high hopes that there may be more about Luke and Cole and the rest of the Mystic Caravan gang down the road.
THis book is listed as 7.5 but should be 8.5. This explains all the problems I had with book 9 when Cole was introduced. This could have been a full book instead of a short story very easily. It could have developed the relationship between Luke and Cole in more depth.
I really love Amanda Lee’s books. This one is a short told from another POV than her normal character for this series. This made it interesting but since it was a short we got to the end quickly and not as many plot twists as normal. It was cute but not as good as the normal series books
I am loving this series and can't wait to read more. I laugh and cry when reading these and that's what I love in a book. When I feel like I'm in the book then that's what I love about books and what I look for in a book.
I love the mystic caravan series. It's written in first person, usually Poet's. This story is Luke's POV. Once again, the group finds themselves with a dead body. I like that the author sucks you in and makes you read until the mystery is solved.
I guess it was about time. I started the next full book of the series and realized I was missing some thing, and therefore came back to this short book. I don’t generally see the purpose of novella or short stories, but this one was OK.
It’s about time that Luke got his own story, and you even learned a little more of his background. I have been waiting for him to find a love interest since the beginning.
