Bailey And The Bad Boy

Rate this book
It’s the last day of school, and everyone is excited for the big summer leading up to our senior year. I was too…until my heart was ripped out of my chest. As if getting dumped wasn’t bad enough, I’m forced to endure the humiliation of witnessing my ex-boyfriend flaunt his new girl—who also happens to be my now ex-best friend—all over town. Double whammy. Now I’m the pathetic ex-girlfriend left gutted, heartbroken, and nose deep in a bucket of ice cream. I’m doomed to spend the summer sulking over a guy who thought I was predictable and bad in bed. So, when I get an offer guaranteeing me some well-deserved payback, of course I’m going to take it. Besides, the plan is simple. Pretend like I’m dating Ryder, the town’s popular bad boy, and make my ex wallow in a pit of jealousy and regret. It’s perfect. I mean…what could possibly go wrong?

Bailey is a 17 year old who moved to a new town with her mother, new school, new people, all she trying to do is to fit in, and she entered into a group of rich kids - Christina, Indie and Chace, to whom she started dating, until one day he cruely broke up with her over a phone message.

Suddenly she doesn't fit in anymore.

She's hurt and then she's betrayed, when she finds out that Chace and Christina, her ex-best friend have been together behind her back.

She's devastated and trying to hide it from others BUT it's hard to keep up with the charade, she's alone and lost, until an infamous tattoed and pierced school's "bad boy" Ryder Jones comes with a proposition.
Ryder Jones, the school's most desirable bad boy

The best payback is to show you moved on fast! He'll pretend to be her boyfriend and they'll both rub it in their noses and prove to both Chace and Christina, that they aren't worth of the attention.

Ryder has his own reasons to hate Chace, even though a few years ago they were best friends BUT then something happened, that took turns on Ryder's life, and one day, from a solid good guy, his appearance screamed "bad boy" and trouble from miles away...
Ryder Jones didn't talk to anyone unless it was to tell them to piss off.

And the more Ryder and Bailey keep up with the pretenses, it becomes harder to keep the feelings from surficing and the lines of what's true and false soon become blurred...

So, when the truth comes out shaking the grounds of what was hidden and covered up from the public knowledge, it will solidate the connection between them...and open the door for that final revelation that will clear up any false pretense left, if any
"This thing between you and me." He gestured between us. "It's real."
...just remember that it's you, Bailey.
It's always been you.

"I fucking love you."

when I venture into a YA sphere, I'm mentally prepared to step back a notch or two, and try to ignore the potential annoyance of the immature and childish portrayal of the characters, cause somehow I find it harder and harder to control myself by tolerating it (not only with YA but with much older characters as well), so it was a risk I took.

And the risk payed off.

This was a teen drama , true. BUT it wasn't annoying, in fact, it had that similar touch of tension I am used to getting in Tijan's books, especially in Fallen Crest High , even though NOT in the same amount but since I like to experience that in the story, it was only an added plus.

The characters were palpable in their youthful portrayal, and I especially loved Ryder, (he was a truly layered individual, and yet he played the "bad guy" image to the point but actually being a phenomenally good guy) so all in all, it was quite pleasurable experience , considering, this is the first time I'm reading smth from this author.

Overall Opinion: Eh, for a high school romance it was alright. I definitely wanted more closure...especially with that ending! I also felt like the h was a little too whiney for my liking at first, but that could just be the author trying to tune in with teenage feelings 🤷🏻‍♀️ They had tension but no scenes, so it felt like a let down in a way. All or nothing, I say! Overall, I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Bailey and Ryder's story. The story begins when Bailey is dealing with the ultimate betrayal of her boyfriend leaving her for her best friend. Ryder approaches her about getting revenge on her ex (with his own secret vendetta) by making him jealous by pretending to be in a relationship. The more time they spend together, the less their relationship is fake, and they start to fall in love. There is some high school drama, some heavier drama with family, and some sweet scenes...and they get a HFN ending.

Point Of View (POV): This was told in Bailey's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well.

Instalove: No, they take a while to develop stronger feelings

H (Hero) rating: 4 stars. Ryder. I liked him. He was sweet, protective, and kinda hot.

h (heroine) rating: 3 stars. Bailey. She was alright. I wanted her to be a little tougher at times though.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Mild. They have some tension and chemistry, but no descriptive scenes.

Descriptive sex: No

OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: Not between mcs

Separation: Yes, but only physically

Possible Triggers: Not really

Closure: This ended abruptly with hardly any closure except some shared "ILYs". I would call this a HFN ending, as there were a bunch of unanswered questions.

Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers

Oh high school drama.

Okay, so Bailey and the Bad Boy wasn't completely terrible.. it was just cliche as fuck. However, it being cliche and all I could totally deal with.. it was the annoying characters that I couldn't. UGH!

Bailey, the MC, is in the best relationship ever and has two of the best friends ever.. well, until she doesn't have that certain relationship nor her friends (for the moment) anymore. Chace breaks up her for some stupid ass reason (but then again it's high school) and her friends ignore her completely after this as well. Until one fine day, Christina and Chace are dating, Ryder (the bad boy) wants to make a deal to fake date to make them jealous, oh and Indie (her bestie) comes back into her life.

So Bailey wasn't actually that annoying for most of the book.. like when she wasn't complaining about Chace, he ex, or Christina, her ex whorish best friend. I did like her whole "relationship" with Ryder because it did seem sort of genuine.. when they didn't put the fake label on it. You could clearly tell that he liked her and has liked her for a long time.. plus seeing her finally starting to like him and not UGH Chace was refreshing.

Besides that a lot of things about Ryder were kind of predictable since he was deemed as the "bad boy" in school. Of course he had a past.. even though not all of it was bad for him and mostly about his family. He tried to keep secrets from Bailey (OH NO!) which of course made her think that he was cheating on her and that she wasn't good enough (oh yeah.. she was annoying then too). Turns out he wasn't and then all was forgiven. They lived happily ever after.

Then there was Chace and Christina - god, they were so annoying. He was such a douche bag and she was such a whiny two-faced bitch. I don't even want to dive into my rant about them.. just know that I hated them and that the ending was 100% predictable as fuck. Still annoyed the ever living shit out me .. but oh well.

Last but not least, Indie. She was an okay kind of best friend - way better than Christina. However, I don't really understand why she even stopped talking or hanging out with Bailey to begin with. Just thought it was weird but then again.. it is high school which is filled with fickle bitches. In the end, their friendship was real and amazing. I like how they stuck by each other no matter what.

Overall, it was an okay book. Would I go out of my way to reread it? No. Will I read the second book in this series..? Probably since it's on my kindle. I hope it's better than the first one.

Bailey and the Bad Boy was not bad but it also wasn’t great. I think it would’ve benefit from some of Ryder’s POV. I’m fine with the high school drama but it was kind of convoluted at times. The hero leaves for months and the book moves super slow. Lots of unresolved issues and questions in the end. Honestly I have no interest in continuing this series.

Wow!

Can't believe I waited this long to read the book. It was so beautifully well written if that makes sense! Throughout this book I kept thinking I knew what was going to happen next. However, I will admit I was way off. I never even saw it coming to the conclusion it did! I hurt so bad for Ryder but love him so much. He is one strong guy! And that ending? I mean what? I'm at a loss right now and so sad this book came to an end. Definitely can't wait to read the next book in this series!

I think this was the first book I read by this author and I loved it. I also just found out that I have most of the books in this series already downloaded in my kindle.
I love a good fake relationship that grows into something more. I read it almost one sitting and I couldn't stop. It was great!
Also, who doesn't love a bad boy that has the biggest heart ever and a story that leaves tears in their eyes? I know I do.

But, it ended kind of abruptly with that 'surprise' at the end... I wish I knew what would happen after that.
The bonus chapter was good, just a glimpse of what Ryder went through with his sister. Again, I wish there was more.
I'll continue this series because I'm curious about Kenzie and also about Indie.

Jealousy books always suck me in. This was a fairly easy read, though Bailey did act like a clueless twat sometimes and my hand was itching to smack her. Loved Ryder though. He was such a sweetheart. I didn't like the at-the-time unexplained separation . Seemed out of character for him given how obvious he loved Bailey. Aside from that, the twist at towards the end... Highly recommend for a fast & highly entertaining read.

This is a quick and fun read. It is, however, also quite predictable and nothing overly special. I really liked that the main character was not this perfect doll, but she was made human and relateable through panic attacks. I have to admit I have never suffered from them, so I do not know if they are represented well, but I liked the fact that the main character does not fearlessly do anything, and actually thinks about what she is going to do, which sometimes leads to her having these attacks.

I really loved this book! It's my favorite book I've read so far this year. I'm going to read more like it in the future. It turns out that Ryder wasn't a bad boy after all.

freaking loved Bailey and the Bad Boy. Did not see the twist that came at the end. I really loved the characters R. Linda brought to this story. The fact that she wrote about what really happens in today's society with high schoolers, made her story seem so real. Ryder was definitely my favorite character, he seemed like a tough guy but in reality that wasnt him at all. He had a heart of gold. Now, chace on the other hand was a real freakin douche, I couldnt stand him LOL But I loved seeing Bailey grow into her own person and realizing what really mattered in life. I really enjoyed reading this story and can't wait to see what's to come next from these characters.

A little too juvenile to me

I wish the book had more Depth. I just feel some of the characters weren’t as flushed out as they could’ve been. I will not continue with this series or author

3 teen stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I went into reading/listening Bailey And The Bad Boy blindly not reading any reviews. This also was my first book by R. Linda so I had no idea what to expect. I can’t say I loved it nor did I hate it. It was just okay for me. It could’ve been because I didn’t realize this was a young adult romance book where there was no sex what’s so ever. Not even fade to black scenes. Nowadays young adult books have some detail sex scenes, so that was a little disappointing to find that out, because the sexual tension between Bailey and Ryder was pretty intense and I feel this book could’ve been so much better if given us reader that when they finally gave in!

The other problem I had with this book was and I’m assuming that this author is Australian? since there were several didn’t English phrases. For example.. mum instead of mom, mate instead of friend, UNI instead of college. You get the picture….
So I was surprised to find the narrator that read the audiobook to be American.

Plus there were several times throughout the book that something would happened but never got answers to and that just irritated me.

Now I can say this….it was a very cute high school book for anyone that has a young daughter that loves to read about high school drama and loves a bad boy to boot! There definitely was a lot of swoon moments that would put hearts in any young girls eyes… heck I even swooned a few times.

Ryder and Bailey love story is light and refreshing. Definitely a good read for teens.

Audiobook review: This was my first time listening to Addison Barnes and she did a great job!

So, here's the thing. This book wasn't good. In fact, I could possibly go so far as to say it's kind of bad.
Except, it was impossible for me to put down! It was like chugging Dr. Pepper; I know there is no beneficial outcome for me, but it's too addicting to stop.

Will this review help you decide whether or not to read this book? I highly doubt it. But thanks for humoring me anyways.

This book was good but not great. I LOVED the romantic parts but there were also parts that were weird and that left a bad taste in my mouth. Once I gather my thoughts I will write a more extensive review

Hello Ryder 😍

Wowsers... I can't believe I have finally read it! I've been waiting for MONTHS to start this series and I'm already in love.

So much hotness, emotion and drama in this story- it kept me completely engrossed.

Bailey is beautiful, inside and out.
Ryder is so hot, swoon worthy and totally my new book boyfriend.

Can't wait to dive into the next book, if it's even half as amazing as this was, I'm in for a treat!

Easy read

It was a pretty easy read. The twists were a little predictable. I don’t know if I would recommend it though. It needed a little more depth to it.

Really long page count considering nothing much happened. Not quite sure why the two main characters were pretending in any way that it was a 'fake' relationship - who the hell would be comfortable with constantly stick their tongue down someone's throat when they're not attracted to the person at all?

The constant making out was utterly tiring. The book was all cliche and big drama and silly stereotypes. There were occasional typos and grammar errors. We made a bigish deal of Bailey and Ryder's jobs near the start of the book and by around the 50% mark, it seemed like neither had been to their respective workplaces in weeks

This story reminded me why I am glad I am not in high school any longer. The author portrays the angst of teenagers and how they live in their own little bubble really well.
This story had so much going on. It started out with Bailey being humiliated in front of the school by her now ex boyfriend Chace. Then to make matters worse, her best friend Christina does the unthinkable and stabs her in the back.
Whilst all this was going on, Ryder - the bad boy of the school - keeps tempting her that he will help in getting her her own revenge.
But nothing is exactly what it seems. Just when you think you know how the story is going to unfold, the author throws in a massive twist, and off the storyline goes in a totally different direction.
What I liked most about this story is Bailey's growth. It didn't take long for all the things she thought were relevant in her life when she was part of the cool group at school, once she removed herself from that crowd, she soon understood what really mattered to her.
This is a great story and I look forward to reading more from this author

Oh My God!!! Why just WHY!
This book was really bad for me, I... I dont even know where to start the complaining.
First it started off with them breaking up no real context, I can understand that... Then the "Bad Boy" who never talks to anyone becomes a sweetheart to Bailey.
Then again with no context as to why he wants revenge, they start a "fake" relationship...
20 chapters later and me pulling my hair out due to lack of any real plot besides I like him but I don't want him to know we find out that Chace actually had a baby with Ryder's sister, he wanted her to terminate but she wouldn't do it. Ryder loved Bailey for ever and Chace only got with her because he was trying to get back at Ryder.
How did you not remember that Ryder and Chace were best friends before you starting dating Chace??? How!!! HOW!!!

Okay WOW, this book really just jumped into the relationship from the beginning when Chace broke up with her. Let me just say I LOVE a good fake relationship turning into something more book ever since loving To All The Boys I've Loved before so so much. This one was a little more steamy though probably. Let me just say that Ryder was literally the hottest bad boy image I could ever picture in my head. The tattoos and piercings and the whole whatever I don't give a f*** attitude was SO ATTRACTIVE. I actually like how the book just jumped into the fake relationship between Ryder and Bailey so fast. They had the cutest moments from the drive-in movie, or all the scenes are school when Chace would be so astounded and jealous. Or all the scenes when Ryder would get super protective of Bailey because Ryder was being a big fat jerk!! He would always be so sweet to her and it was so apparent how much he liked her. This was a really a tip top bad boy good girl relationship. I gave it one less star only because there were a lot of random kissing scenes, some of them made sense and I liked but other times I am just like okay, chill. But all in all it was such a good book if you love the bad boy kind of vibe!!!

Started off not so good for me. I almost decided to DNF, but I kept going. It got better for me. High school girl gets dumped by her boyfriend - the popular boy - and she is devastated. She runs out of the school crying, and our Hero, Ryder comes to her rescue. He eventually asks her to pretend to be his girlfriend as a way of getting back at the ex. So we have the old fake romance trope here. In the beginning, I just felt the writing was too juvenile and not descriptive enough for me to get all the depth of character, feeling, setting, etc. It took me a moment to figure out this book is not set in USA (end of school year just before Christmas, spending Christmas at the beach?) Anyhow, I stuck with the story because I am a sucker for high school romances. Writing was still choppy, but I finished the story. I didn't see any 'bad-boy' behavior from our H, so not sure the title is accurate. Also had a hard time with one of the twists at the end -set in a sort of small town, but Bailey didn't know Ryder had a twin sister? Why wasn't the town wondering why the sister moved away? Yet the ex and his family end up losing social standing over his behavior? I didn't believe it. Oh well. It was an ok read. Won't go on my list of favorites.

When her perfect boyfriend, Chace, dumps her unexpectedly, Bailey is devastated. Adding more injury, she discovers that he is now with her best friend, Christina. Bailey is surprised when resident bad boy, Ryder, offers her help in getting revenge. At first, she refuses, but as her grief intensifies, she finally relents. Ryder's plan is simple enough - they will have a fake relationship that will drive Chace to jealousy, and it works! During their fake dating, Bailey realizes not only was she not being herself and instead was trying to be a duplicate Christina the last 2 years, but also that she is developing feelings for Ryder. Ryder's motivation to get revenge is unknown until the end of the book; but when you find out - whoa!

I liked this book. The characters seemed pretty true to the age groups that they represented, and the scenario, in general, was believable. It was so cute to read about Bailey's increased feelings toward Ryder.

Ok so how cliché can you get? Nothing beats the level of cliché this had. Literally from the title you can tell what happens. You wouldn't even have to read it to know fake dating, real feelings, big secret and then real dating is the plot of this trope.

The voice fits very well with the writing style, making it super quick and addictive read.

However the level of predictably wasn't fun and there was too much foreshadowing as in I predicted this book till there was no reason left for me to actually finish reading it. I did though.

I liked the characters and development as well as the relationships that continue to grow within the book, which raised the rating a bit.

So that's it for this review. Would you read it or if you have what were your thoughts?
