Do you trust that everything is working out for your good?
In an attempt to cheer up a friend, amateur witch Penny Banks agrees to open up the magical portal that leads into Hillcrest. A tennis tournament will be the perfect thing to add a little bit of cheer and excitement to town during the dreary winter months! But could it also mean trouble?
When eight Spirit Realm athletes traipse in to town, they bring a whole lotta problems with them. It’s up to Penny and her knitting circle to sort things out.
Can a ghost die? And what happens when a being dies anyways? The ladies gets busy learning the Trust Spell, hoping that it will help them track down some answers!
Love this book. It is so fun to read. Amorette Anderson is a fantastic author and her books are really fun. Part is everyone can read them. I loved the other 3 books and book 4 didn't disappoint either. I really must be honest though when I first read Amorette's books I didn't know what to expect. However, I'm of the opinion to give every book at least one chance. I was so thrilled and blown away with how fun she made her books I actually found myself trying to solve the cases with these Characters. I just love Penny and her familiar Turkey(a cat). If I could rate this book more than 5 stars I would. I really recommend this book. However another recommendation I have is read the books in order. They'll make more sense and you'll understand it so much better. **I want to thank Amorette Anderson for the ARC of book 4 'The Trust Spell.**
I think the thing that I love the most about this series is that they don't instantly know how to be witches. They have to study and learn. This time it is the trust spell. Not only are they becoming better at being witches but they are learning about life in general together. They are becoming witches but above all, they are friends. They are living life with all its ups and its downs. There is no way to cheat in life or in becoming a witch. I loved meeting the spirits and I can't wait to see what other characters they meet in the rest of the series.
I really enjoy this series by Amorette. Penny reminds me of people I know. Her human fears are those I believe we all have. Confidence and trust. Don’t we all have those fears sometime in our lives? Things happen and it’s hard to put yourself out there again. But she perseveres and with help from her friends and the growing confidence she feels inside in herself she comes out on top.
This really is a wonderful series. It is wonderful to see the changes in each character as they can cast off the things that are holding them down and embrace new challenges and experiences. It’s how we mere mortals can look to make those improvements in ourselves and take courage from Penny and her friends to do just that.
I urge those of you who see this review to start this series by Amorette. I’m sure you will be a fan of Amorette’s also and like me will look forward anxiously for the next book to appear. Bravo Amorette on another job well done!
Penny and the coven are at it again when Annie tries to reach her late husband but instead meets Fred, a ghost from the Spirit Realm.
Annie convinces Penny to leave the portal open as it will be good to host a tennis match with players from the sprint realm and let the realms be friendly.
What Penny doesn’t count on is one of the ghosts to get murdered. Now with the tennis teams in need of judge. With the help from Max now Penny can find out who murdered Janice.
I am loving this series as the characters are getting better as each story unfolds and there are always laugh out loud moments. The story keeps the reader turning the pages to find out what happens. Turkey, Penny’s familiar is the best so far.
I got this book as an ARC and was asked to give an honest review. I enjoyed the book as I love Penny and Turkey and the Terra Coven. This book brought athletics from another realm and it was very interesting to meet these new characters. Of course there is a murder that Penny has to solve but she is on a real time crunch this time and only has a couple of days to figure it all out. Turkey has some surprising news to share with Penny also. I enjoyed this book but I have to admit not quite as much as the last one. It is definitely worth the read and everyone also have a different take on a book, so just read and enjoy.
PI Penny and her coven solve a murder mystery when spirits from another realm gather here for a tennis tournament. I received an ARC copy in exchange for a voluntary review. I’m looking forward to the next book!
The Terra Coven is busy learning the new Trust spell in this latest book. Penny and Turkey are back with Annie, Cora, and Marley for more magic and an out of this world mystery. Annie conducted a seance to contact her departed husband, Walter, for advice regarding her love life. Instead she contacted a spirit named Fred, who loves the sport of tennis in the Spirit Realm. Annie and Fred set up the first ever Walterdon, a tennis match for the Spirit Realm players on the planet earth in honor of her husband, Walter.
Before Penny and her coven has a chance to organize the nightly tennis tournament , there is a murder of the Spirit Realm tennis judge, Janice at Cora's house. Is this murder tied in with a twenty year old unsolved murder that happened during the first tennis matches? There is plenty of suspects and a very short time frame to find who killed Janice before the players return back to the spirit realm.
The author does an outstanding job of writing these books as a standalone story so readers can enjoy the books out of order. Readers will enjoy the updates of their beloved characters, such as Max and Penny are the early stages of a promising romantic relationship along with Cora and Silas relationship developments. I love the fact that I am catching up on the lives of old friends that is a huge plus in my book.
Cora has a familiar named Blueberry Muffin and Marley and Annie do not have any familiars at this time. This reader did not get lost into the story by missing a previous storyline in this series. It is very nice touch to find out how the characters are doing in their lives while solving a mystery. This coven have a very close friendship and truly like each other as well as providing support in good and tough times.
The only drawback in this story is that Penny has not develop enough in the maturity department. She remain in the same state of immaturity of self-doubt in this story. I had hoped that she would have grown a little more confident in her PI and magical skills by now. Marley, Annie, and Cora have matured in their abilities but Penny needs to catch up with them. Turkey is the mature parent to Penny's childish impulses and doubts, I would like to see Penny to grow into her new life as a confident young woman with abilities. She is a very likable character that needs to grow and mature as a witch detective in future mysteries.
This book is a great fun fantasy read full of sparkle and magic. I do look forward to more mysteries with Penny, Turkey, and the Hillcrest gang in future books. I was given an ARC for a honest review.
Opening up the portal as a peace offering to the Spirit Realm seemed kinda dangerous to me. Asking for trouble. And yes, Penny gets herself and her coven in trouble again! A tennis tournament is to be held, with Spirits competing on Earth, as gravity is better on Earth than in the Spirit Realm. But before the tournament can even start, a Spirit gets murdered. Yes, murdered! I thought a Spirit’d be like a ghost, but Spirits from the Spirit Realm aren’t humans who died. Spirits look like ghosts, but they’re not. They’re just from a different Realm. And in a way, that’s disappointing for Annie, because she really wanted to summon her late husband.
The Trust Spell is like a puzzle. It’s not immediately clear. But maybe it can help them solve the murder, so they have got to figure out how to master it.
I loooved it! Light-hearted, fun; Penny doesn’t take herself so seriously. She’s funny, smart, and warm-hearted. She’s also socially awkward, naïve and under-confident. But she’s growing. As a person, and as a witch. And it’s so lovely to see! The personal growth Penny shows during this series is very realistic. Slowly but steady. I really enjoyed reading about Penny’s transformation. It’s such fun to be a part of Penny’s journey of change. She has learned so much! Still, there lots left to learn.
Penny gets herself into hilarious situations once again. It’s impossible not to smile while reading this book. If you need a boost, a pick-me-up, then this is the book to read! It’s filled with funny silliness.
When the Terra Coven opens the portal in Hillcrest, Annie reaches a man from the Spirit Realm while trying to perform a seance to speak with her deceased husband Walter. The spirit, Fred, approaches the Coven wanting to host a tennis tournament on Earth. They had had a tournament 20 years prior. The spirits like to play their tournaments on earth because the tennis balls move a lot faster on Earth. There are eight players and one judge coming to the first ever Walterdon, named after Annie's deceased husband. The players, Fred and Marve; Boris and Boleslava; Camilla and Pat; and Beth and Henry along with the judge, Janice, arrive and are given their staying arrangements for the weekend of the tournament. Everyone goes to Cora's for a welcome dinner. Shortly thereafter, Janice Henderson is discovered dead in the bathtub. Penny Banks sets out to solve the crime with the help of the Coven, her familiar, Turkey and her vampire boyfriend, Max Shire. The witch sisters are learning the steps to become witches and are on the Trust Spell. They are having difficulty learning this spell which they believe will help solve the crime. The story has mystery, romance and a little humor. Who else would have a familiar that was making more money by online consulting than their companion? Turkey reminds Penny how horrible she is with her finances. This is a great book to read if you enjoy paranormal cozies. I received an ARC of this book. This is my honest opinion for this review.

Title: ~ Killing your competition?
Somehow it seems longer than just a half a year. Not that that s a bad thing. Having any business while being slow can be beneficial. It allows you to pace yourself.
Ahhh Penelope, trying to become a witch, yet still thinking like a Terran. :D
Shockingly, it s not Penelope who comes up with the unique idea this time. We find that some things appear to be the same, no matter what Realm you re from. Sports seem to be a catch all good will amongst civilized beings. So why not have an inter-Realm Championship in downtown Hillcrest? (Makes perfect sense to me!)
Just a small hint Penelope: {You re reading too much into the spell Penelope}. You need to focus on the moment instead of the entire world.
[{}]
What a way to catch a murderer from another Realm: got to be ware of witches who re masters/mistresses of the infamous “Tickle Attack”, errr “Torture”! To think that was only the start.
You ll have to get this book or box set to see how it all works out for the very first Walterdon at Hillcrest! Trust me it s worth it! ;)
Four books into this series and fresh wit, the value of friendship and murders are still going strong in Hillcrest. This is a delightfully whimsical witch cozy.
Penny has the portal closed, no one can come in from other realms or leave the Earth realm. Since this new coven inherited the responsibility for the portal, a lot of chaos has entered their realm. Cora also found her perfect mate in a stranger coming to visit the realm. So should the ladies keep the portal closed, or allow others in?
When Annie contacts someone from the Spirit realm in an attempt to speak to her deceased husband, that is the question that arises. Annie and Fred, a spirit living in the Spirit realm, are becoming friends via their remote contact. It seems the residents of the spirit realm are avid tennis fans, and playing in the Earth realm is more of a challenge for them than at home. Twenty years ago there was a tournament for their top tennis players held in the Earth realm. Should the coven let in athletes from Spirit realm visit for round two of this tournament?
The current cycle for the coven is the trust spell, and they are having a hard time with it. Maybe extending trust to other realms will help. Eight tennis players and a judge come through the portal for a two day tournament. Almost immediately someone is murdered. Could they have invited a murderer into their midst?
It’s up to penny to discover the truth before the tournament ends and everyone goes home.
“I believe in you Penny,” he says. “I know you’re on the right track. Follow your instincts.”
Max may believe in Penny, but does Penny believe in herself? Isn’t that what the Trust Spell in’s about?
After Annie connects with the Spirit realm, she quickly puts the rest of the coven on notice that they’re sponsoring a tennis tournament- the first Annual Walterton. Penny opens the portal and the spirits come in for 48 hours of tennis and trouble when the judge is murdered in Annie’s bathroom and Private Investgator Penny is on the case. Question is can she find the killer before the Spirits need to return to their realm in 2 days? And, will Turkey ever trust Max? And what on earth does he do online all day?
Amorette Anderson has done it again! “The Case of the Trust Spell” is a wonderful exploration of the next “lesson” in ASBW, which, until they share it together and alone, they may not be able to manifest. I found myself tearing up a bit as I “heard” this lesson as loudly as if I was in the middle of a coven meeting with the four neophyte witches. I can hardly wait to see what the next “spell” brings forth. Highly Recommended 5/5
[disclaimer: I received this book from the author and voluntarily reviewed it]
Penny's fellow witch and friend Annie is down in the dumps, its the anniversary of her husband's death. Over tea and cake, Annie tells Penny how she attempted to find Walter in one of the other realms. While telling her story she mentions she made contact with Fred, a spirit from the Spirit Realm. Fred asks if they will open the portal allowing the Spirit Realm Tennis Tournament team to play tennis on Earth as the gravity is better. Of course Penny agrees, hoping it will smooth things over between the Earth and Spirit Realms. At first everything goes smoothly. 8 tournament players and 1 judge come through the portal. Cora hosts a welcoming dinner, where one of the guests are murdered. Who knew ghosts could be murdered? 48 hours to solve a murder, can it be done? Time will tell. Turkey is his usual self, still using the computer, only this time he has started a business. Join Penny, Turkey and the rest of the knitting club as they try to find the killer. I received an ARC and am leaving an honest and unbiased review because I want to.
A good read just a shame it was obvious who the culprit was from the beginning. Would have liked to see a few more twists in the plot. The characters however are changing slightly. She is still as scatty and disorganised as ever but the others are growing into their witchiness and Turkey has proved that he is a very capable cat. When a tennis tournament is suggested she is quick to agree. Anything to get her friends mind off the anniversary of her husband's death. But the tournament is for the elite sports people of the Spirit World. Can they pull it off even though the judge is murdered on the evening of the Spirits arrival. Now they have just a couple of days to find the killer. Will the next lesson in the book help them? What is it about the tennis tournament that always leads to death. When the tournament was last played on earth a contestant died. Could they be linked?
I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review. I am pleased to be able to say I enjoyed the latest entry in the Penny Banks series immensely. It is definitely the best one yet. Penny and the other three members in her knitting circle are now a coven after Penny inherits a how to book on becoming a witch. Each book they move a little further along in their journey. Penny also grows as a person, which is a big bonus for me. I love character development (when it is positive, that is!). Add in a vampire, a werewolf and in this entry 8 athletes from the Spirit Realm, who were originally accompanied by a judge for the upcoming tennis tournament. However this is a mystery, and so she gets murdered early on leaving Penny and her coven the weekend to solve the crime. Well written and although both Penny and I figured out who done it before the end, she has to prove it and that is quite well handled. I do recommend this book as a good read.
Penny’s good friend is still mourning the death of her late husband and needs a bit of cheering up. When the opportunity arises to open the magical portal to allow eight tennis players from the Spirit Realm to compete in a match (they dub as Walterton), Penny finds herself having a hard time saying no. Just before the first match can be played, the judge is murdered (can a spirit be killed?) and they have less than 48 hours to solve the case.
The theme of the book is trust (hence the case of the trust spell) and each lady of the coven must learn the spell in hopes of resolving the latest mystery. As usual, you will be delighted by the cast of quirky characters, fall deeper in love with familiar Turkey, and have the opportunity to watch the coven grow into the witches they are striving to become.
I received an ARC of this book for an honest review. This is a fun series to read, with likable characters who grow and develop through the series. The book is written in a way where you do not need to read the previous books, but you'll enjoy them if you do. The main character, Penny, is busy developing as a witch, improving her skills as a P.I., and building her relationship with Max, a 500 year old handsome vampire. This time Penny and her friends host tennis players from the Spirit Realm, which leads to a murder that Penny only has two days to solve. Her friends are great support, and help catch the killer, but the most helpful was her cat, Turkey. He's truly a special cat with great insight, and a whiz on the computer. It's a fun mystery, with witchcraft and whimsy thrown in. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
The Case Of The Trust Spell is book 4 of the Hillcrest Witch Cozy Mystery series. Penny Banks, a learning witch and PI, and her knitting circle/witches in training group are again needing to solve a murder in two days involving 8 members plus the referee from the Spirit Realm who have come for a tennis tournament. Besides her knitting circle/fellow witches, she has the help of Turkey, her familiar, and Max, her boyfriend. This time around they are trying to learn the trust spell. This is a thoroughly enjoyable tale and an excellent addition to the series. It has it all: character growth, humor, romance, trust, etc. I highly recommend this book, but to really appreciate the progress Penny and her fellow characters have made, you should read the preceding three books. I received a copy and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Book 4: The Case of The Trust Spell by Amorette Anderson.
I need a Turkey in my life, he is very trustworthy!!!! I would trust him with just about anything of mine, and that says it all.
Each book that I have read, so far, have been the best, please don't make me pick one because I would be in a pickle.
Penny invites some spiritis from the Spirit Realm to her realm to play their first Walterdon and to their dismay, there happens to be a murder at Cora's house. With that being said, the Spirits cannot return home and Penny's coven has to perform the Trust Spell, which they have been trying to.
As always they make the spell work and get their murderer. This Trust Spell is one of the most rewarding experiences for Penny and she knows how important letting go and being able to trust is.
Penny and her knitting circle are on to the next chapter in their book, this time trying to learn the Truth Spell. As before, the spell fits right in with the murder they must solve, this time without involving the police since the dead woman is from the Spirit Realm, as are her companions, here to play a tennis tournament because the gravity on Earth makes the game more challenging. Penny only has the weekend to solve the crime before they all leave.
This is another cute story in the Hillcrest Witch series. I enjoy these books because they're clean and fun to read. Penny and her friends are easy to relate to, except maybe Max who can run 60 miles with seemingly no effort!
I received an ARC for this book in exchange for an honest review.
Book 4 in this cute little series...This time the witches are learning the trust spell and what it means as they work through the book of becoming a real witch. Annie asks to have the portal opened to allow some paranormals come in for a tennis tournament, the four of them agree. They have 8 spirits that come that are ready for the weekend tournament before they have to go back. Before the tournament begins, the tennis judge is found dead in Coras bathtub, hit over the head with the trophy... So the four witches have til the end of the tournament to figure out which one of the eight is the murderer and hope that learning the trust spell will help them.. A great mystery story that keeps me interested to keep going... looking forward to book 5.
So our budding novice witches have invited people from the spirit realm to visit the earth realm. This was at the request of the spirit people who want to play tennis on earth, which has a denser gravity, making the game more exciting. But, one of the spirit people gets murdered. This was an interesting murder mystery. Lots of suspects. I am liking Max the vampire more in this book, as he is coming across as more being impressed by our heroine. I am still not sold on him as he keeps trying to change her, move her subtly in a direction that is more in line with him and other magical beings. On the other hand, I do like seeing her grow emotionally stronger in each book. Only future books will tell me where that relationship will go.
I got this book as an ARC, well, here's my review on it.
I liked the book and love the way the connection between Penny and Max grows. I also loved the new visiting characters, with my favorite being Boris, he was hilarious in the book.
The book had something a little bit different this time because beings from another realm called the Spirit realm had to come to the earth realm to compete against each other in a game of tennis. The judge gets murdered and it's up to P. Banks to solve the case b4 the spirits return to their realm in 3 days. The case of the trust spell is a really good book.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I love this series and this book didn't disappoint. It has magic, mystery, love, and humor. The main character Penny has a riddle about trust and a murder to solve in a weekend. Penny opens the Portal so spirits from another realm could cross over and have a tennis tournament in winter with snow on the ground at nighttime only. But shortly after they arrive there is a murder. Penny has a lot on her plate plus her cat Turkey has started a business in her name. Can a solving a riddle help solve a murder? And does Turkey really have a business?
I like lighthearted fun as much as anyone, but I felt the scenario in this latest visit to Hillcrest verged on plain silliness. Apparently the Spirit Realm is peopled by beings who play tennis, watch reality television and wear ridiculous clothes while being slightly glowy and see-through. However, the mystery was good: the motive was reasonable, even guessable, the denouement satisfying. Penny and her familiar Turkey are as cute as ever (odd to call a detective cute, but she is). The talk about trust and the afterlife is gently wise. The regular cast of characters are in good form, especially the magnificent Max.
I liked the book but, unfortunately, I have to say I did not like it as much as the previous ones... I like that we met beings from a new realm (spirit realm) but found it hard to appreciate the story. It was missing a bit of magic for me. It will not stop me from reading more books from Amorette, far from it as I enjoy very much her writing. One good thing: it was harder this time for me to figure out who the culprit was!
I received this book from an ARC team and this is my honest review.
Penny Banks fellow witch and friend Annie has been talking to Fred a man from the Spirit Realm and asks permission to open the gate to allow eight people to hold a tennis tournament the last which was held twenty years ago. The tournament has not even started and the referee is murdered. Penny has only the weekend to find the murderer before the contestants must return to the Spirit Realm. Meanwhile Turkey her cat familiar has been busy making money for her as a consultant. Another enjoyable tale. Highly recommended.
Annie tries to connect with her deceased husband in the spirit world. However it doesn’t work and she makes contact with a spirit that she enjoys talking with. He would like to come to Earth for a tennis tournament as the balls bounce better than in the spirit world. Penny agrees to open the portal and 8 athletes plus a judge enter for a weekend competition. During the welcome dinner, the judge is found dead. The coven tries to learn the trust spell to solve the murder. Will they succeed? And what is Turkey’s surprise?
This was my favorite book of the series yet. Penny is showing more and more growth as a witch, and the whole coven is really coming together on learning the spells and doing “witchy” activities. They run into an opportunity to allow a group of spirits from the Spirit Realm to come into the Earth Realm for a tennis match, and the coven finds themselves dealing with a murder before the games even begin. There are lots of laughs, some sad moments, and of course a mystery. Very enjoyable book.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
