I’m terrified of flying, but that’s exactly what I plan on doing. This year, I will fly in more ways than one.
It all starts with a text that pushes me out of my comfort zone and gives me the courage I need to quit my job and book a flight to Greece.
On the plane, I meet Carter Starr, a sexy stranger who makes me soar to heights I never expected to reach.
One look at him and my heart turns over. We’ve never met before, but his kiss, his touch, the taste of his name on the tip of my tongue…It just feels right.
Now I’m terrified of my own feelings, feelings for a man I barely know, a man who sweeps me off my feet and whisks me away. Carter Starr may be my one-way ticket to a fresh start, but what if it’s all too good to be true?

Dori Lavelle is a mother, wife, and sucker for happy ever afters and mint chocolate. Hand her a great romance novel and a mug of hot chocolate and she'd be one happy woman.
Fast past love at first sight story. Ava quits her job on New Year’s Day and decides to go to Greece. She meets Carter at the airport and they make their first connection on the airplane. Add in a lay over, steamy hotel stay and off to Greece, you have yourself a safe quickie.
-safe read -no om/ow drama -book takes place during one day -epilogues 2 1/2 years later.
I enjoyed this heartwarming short story very much. Ava was such a kind person. She was sweet and give her all to everything she invested her time in. Especially her work. I found her to be innocent and sheltered and afraid to take chances. When she’s finally had enough of being under appreciated she decides to do the thing she’s most scared of. Fly. Her starts the adventures of Ava. Flying, meeting a handsome stranger and everything in between. I loved Carter! With a Ms. Lavelle book you know you are getting something very well written. No matter if it’s a short sexy story or a full novel.
Resolution: Take Off by Dori Lavelle a five-star read that you will want to run away with. What a resolution to make, follow your dreams, even if its not what your family desire that’s what Ava does and wow she does it well. What I would give to get a Carter Starr of my own, he could help me with my fear as well, I am sure just holding his hand would be amazing, mile high club would be better but hey ho, I will settle with hand holding.
Ava abruptly quits her demanding job as an executive assistant & decides to go for her dream & become a flight attendant. Just one problem - she’s terrified of flying. She decides to conquer her fear upfront & books a trip to Greece. Despite having to battle her panic & anxiety being on a plane, she can’t help but to welcome the distraction of eye candy Carter Starr. Carter notices her too, and soon her fears have been replaced by Carter’s comforting words. She can’t help but think they both are feeling more than friendly acquaintances, until she overhears a conversation that makes her think otherwise.
This was a great read of Ava taking control of her fears & going after what she wants. And it doesn’t hurt that she met the man of her dreams as well! Looking forward to reading more from this author!
When your afraid of flying and you just quit your job what better time then the present to face your fears right. Well Ava was going to do just that she booked a ticket for Athens after quitting her job because her boss was a total jerk. While waiting for her flight to take off she went to get a drink to calm her nerves and she noticed that a sexy man was watching her and she just felt this spark of something. Next thing she knows she gripping the arm rest as the plane is taking off and then screams when the turbulence hits at a point. The mystery man has asked her to come to first class to try and ease her nerves. Will mystery man help her and does she make it to Athens alone or will he show up there as well.
When you make a New Year's Resolution, better stick to it because you never know where that might take you as in the case of Ava. After quitting her job, she finds herself doing the one thing she fears most...flying! I salute her for being such a brave person and fate seems to be smiling at her when she catches the eye of Carter. What happens next is a series of events that will leave you wanting to meet that perfect stranger that will make you want to just stay in the air for a long time! Nice, easy quick read!
Conquering her fear of flying,a look from a stranger that calms her,he upgrades her seat, rents a room so she can rest till her plane is ready from a 6 hr delay. They get to know one another.
Their eyes meet across a crowded airport and zing. Love at first sight! Ava lets handsome Carter ease her fears of flying. Very romantic and funny as they navigate getting to know each other. Great HEA tale. I read this using my KU subscription.
This is a fast-paced contribution to the Flirt Clubs collaboration of New Year’s resolutions. We are following Ava Raine who has worked right through Christmas, and her boss is expecting a report at 6 am on the 1st of January. This means her plans of time off and relaxing on New Year’s Eve are out the window. However, she has had enough and throws caution to the wind. She wants a new start for the new year, and that means life attitude and career. She books on the first flight to Greece and doesn’t look back. The entire story is written from Ava’s point of view, so we do get to know what she is thinking completely. She meets Carter on her flight, and there is an instant attraction. I did feel, though, with the way it was written and her constant hesitation that he was more into her than she was him. He came across as a bit full-on, and she didn’t seem bothered by him at all. She seemed a lot younger than 35, as she seemed very vulnerable and meek. I couldn’t understand how they spent an entire flight with one another and didn’t use that time to get to know one another if there was such an intense attraction; instead, they just slept. This book had a very good start, and I felt invested in Ava’s life and the outcome to her decisions, however, the story became too unrealistic towards the end. Who flies in a cocktail dress?

Review:
While not a huge fan of short stories or novellas, I must say that Resolution: Take Off is an engaging story with all the requisite components. Interesting characters along with a believable story that has a beginning, a middle, and an end. And at no time did the story feel rushed or missing anything due to its short length. Dori Lavelle has done it again – created a story which I have totally immersed myself for the duration of the read. In fact, so much so that I wanted the epilogue to be longer – to know more of the continuing story of Ava Raine and Carter Starr.
Ava Raine is pushed to the brink by her uncaring, workaholic boss Donny. With a 6 am January 1st deadline (given to Ava on New Year’s Eve no less), Ava pulls out a bottle of champagne, proceeds to drink a glass… then another. Next thing Ava knows, she is woken up by a phone call at 8 a.m. on New Years Day by non other than Donny inquiring as to where her report was? Harsh words were spoken and when push comes to shove, Ava quits.
Now begins her journey of discovery. Quickly planning a trip to Greece, which requires not one but two plane trips each way. This is certainly a stretch since she is afraid of flying. What happens on the first leg of the trip sets the stage. She meets Carter, this mysterious stranger who is being very kind and generous to her. As you would expect… Carter is a hunk of a guy and this does not go unnoticed by Ava. Sparks fly and let’s say…the rest is history.
The journey for their love story has depth, heat, some “running scared” moments and of course the “awe” moments. All in all, a wonderful short story that tugs at one’s heartstrings. Well done Dori Lavelle. I am never disappointed by your storytelling, whether it be a sweet (and somewhat hot) love story or a psychological thriller.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is a story that is part of the Resolutions series by a variety of authors. In this book, Ava has enough of working for a crooked boss, so she quits and decides to travel, even though she has a fear of flying. Her mother has made her afraid to fly by talking about how dangerous it is. Ava decides to go to Greece anyway and when she was at the airport, she saw a handsome man looking at her while he was talking to two pilots. When Ava's plane took off, she was scared and when they hit turbulence, she got really scared and the flight attendant invited her to sit in first class. Ava agreed and when she got their she saw the man from the airport. He introduced himself as Carter and told her he arranged for her to be there. They talked and when Ava found out her connecting flight was delayed, Carter came and invited her to spend the time with him. They had an instant connection and Carter wanted Ava to stay with him. Ava was unsure what to do, but she wanted an adventure for the new year. I liked this story. I liked how Carter seemed to really care about Ava and wanted to be with her. i think they had amazing chemistry and a great connection. Good one.
I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.
In this book we meet Ava Raine and Carter Starr. Ava is ready to ring in the new year that changes however in an instant. Her boss demands that she get the slides ready for a big meeting that his happening on the next day. He tells her that if she doesn't she is fired. So she opens a bottle of champagne ready to ring in the new year with a drink and work. When she wakes the next morning however with no slides done she is done. She is finally going to go for her dream being a stewardess. If only she can get over her fear of flying. So she decides she will take herself to Athens to celebrate her freedom and overcome her fears. That is where she first sees Carter. Carter knows when you meet the one you must do everything you can. Can they find a HEA though or will this just be a layover on their next stop?
This is a great short story. It does have its ups and downs that I really want to tell you about. However I don't want to ruin it for any other readers. I will say this book will have you hooked from the first word to the very end. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.
I love stories that put a dumb smile on my face & make me clutch my pearls at the same time. Ava is a slave to a thankless boss. It's New Year's Eve & she's stuck working and no one to kiss at midnight. After a mistake & remembering the message from her old Sorority sister she decides to make this her year. She quits her job & flies to Athens. She always wanted to visit there & if she can overcome her fear of flying she can pursue her dream of being a Flight Attendant. A gorgeous mystery man in the airport catches her eye but then he's gone. When they meet again on the plane, Carter helps her through her fear & wedges his way into her heart. There is a misunderstanding but then the sky's the limit. Sweet, romantic, sexy - makings of a great story in my opinion.
A Resolution Pact Short Story - These are a collaboration of authors bringing us short, sweet, sexy stories to give us Oooh's and Ahh's that make our hearts & panties melt in celebration of the New Year. I'm in love with these short story collaborations & am excited each time a new set is released.
Short but rather good Short story, but very well written by this author that I did not know. Despite the length of her story, she managed to catch me, and keep me with her characters, and there are even some twists. I was pleasantly surprised by this little story integrated with other authors on the same basis: girls or young women who belong or have belonged to a sorority, receive for the last day of the year, the advice of the sorority's president that tells them to enjoy and dare. This story follows Ava who is exploited by her boss but, after the abuses he exerts, she resigns to end up doing the unthinkable for her: take a plane. Her destination is Athens. Before boarding, she meets the gaze of a man who then helps her to overcome her fear temporarily. They are both stuck during a stopover and Ava must choose if if she will be reasonable or not. What I liked in this "instalove" is that Ava is always clear on what happens to her, there are no great romantic lines and she remains very down to earth, reasonable. She dares, but without naivety. She is really a very good character.
New Years Eve comes and Ava is yet again working late. When she gets the message from a former sorority sister she decides to go for what she wants and quits her jobs and book a flight to Athens. She is determined to get over her fear of flying so she can becomes a flight attendant. While in the airport she sees a gorgeous man and is intrigued by him. Carter helps her through her fear of flying and charms her into having dinner with him when they have a layover due to weather. But will a misunderstanding stop their budding romance before it has a chance to bloom?
This is a great story once I started it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend it to any book lover.

Our heroine has had a rough time recently and needs to get away. Unfortunately, her fear of flying it standing in her way, but a message from a friend encourages her to pursue her dreams.
This is an interesting short story involving overcoming fears and embracing new opportunities. It features our cute little heroine and the charming man that gives her the support she needs to move forward. I found the combination to be quite entertaining and it brought a smile to my face.
The story is very well written and our two characters are well developed and fun to read. There attraction is palpable and the interactions fun to watch. We do get some steamy scenes and a very nice HEA. I found it to be a very nice evening read.
Highly recommended.

This is a fantastic addition to the Resolution Pact series and this is Ava’s and Carter’s story. It’s New Years Eve and Ava’s boss wants her to send the finished slides back to him by 6am so there goes her New Years. The phone is ringing on and off and that’s what wakes her up it’s her boss calling it’s 8am and Ava doesn’t remember doing the work, her boss threatened to fire her but Ava quits instead. So now Ava books a flight to Athens and while sitting in the cafe at the airport Ava had this feeling that someone was watching her so she turned around and see’s this gorgeous man staring at her. And that my friends is all I’m going to give you after all it’s a short story, this is a fantastic story and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
This was a quick but read New Year's Resolution story. It was very good.
Ava is working too hard and on New Year's Day, she wakes up to find that she needs a change. She quits her job and decides to fly to Athens for her first trip on a plane. She has listened to her mother to long and believes that airplanes are not safe. She at one time wanted to be a flight attendant. She is afraid but a stranger makes the trip bearable. Carter Starr offers her a chance to experience flying in First Class. When she is stuck in Frankfurt due to weather, they share a meal and discover a connection. Will they find their happy ever after?

Ava works hard at her job, maybe too hard. When her boss issues an a warning about her job, she decides to quit and live out her dreams. She soon finds herself on a plane to Greece, however one small hiccup she is terrified to fly. When she meets Carter they have an instant attraction to one another. Carter senses her fears and helps her by moving her to first class with him. After arriving to her first stop fate steps in and put her and Carter together again. Another amazing story with two great characters Ava & Carter. I find it ironic that he is a pilot and loves planes and she is terrified of flying. This is a must read!
This was a sweet short story. Ava quits her job as a personal assistant for a man who treats her like a slave. She decides to fly to Greece, only problem she is afraid of flying. On the plane a handsome stranger, Carter Starr, has her seat moved to first class and helps her forget her fear. They are delayed by weather for the connection and go for lunch and end up in bed. Carter occasionally pilots and owns the airline. She decides to become a flight attendant and they have their HEA.
