Future Forfeit City #2

Chromed: Delilah

Rate this book
It’s 2150AD. Samson will pay.
Delilah Griffiths is ex-Metatech. She’s got the best covert ops bionics money can buy. None of that helped brother Ollie when the link virus crippled him. Smart money says the terrorist hacker Samson is behind it, using his link-jacking skills to destroy lives. Reed Interactive’s bounty on Samson’s head is Delilah’s dream job.
When Delilah puts the muzzle of her weapon to Samson’s head, he tells her a story too perfect to be true. It’s a story too monstrous to be a lie. Syndicates are creating mind-control technology. Killing Samson could give Delilah the vengeance she craves, but let the syndicates get away with everything.
Faced with the choice between darkness and salvation, Delilah holds the future of millions in her hands.
Megacorps. Cyborgs. AI. Gene-spliced monsters. Syndicate enforcers. Off-grid illegals. Supersoldiers. Rock music. Violence. Einstein-Rosen bridges. Liquor. Enhanced reflexes. Power armor and energy weapons. Full body replacements. Swearing. Mind control. Telekenetics. G-Men. Drugs. Neural links. Orbital cannons. THIS IS CYBERPUNK.

Richard Parry has worked as a senior marketing manager in one of the world’s top tech companies, but it wasn't all cocaine parties. His debut novel Night’s Favor and its sequel Night’s Fall have been shortlisted for the Sir Julius Vogel Award “Best Novel” category.

His ever-growing list of novels spans urban fantasy, cyberpunk, and space opera, featuring flawed heroes, sharp dialogue, and a healthy dose of action. His Night’s Champion trilogy follows an alcoholic-turned-werewolf saving the world, while Future Forfeit explores a neon-drenched cyberpunk future where hacking the system is just the start. Meanwhile, Ezeroc Wars throws readers into the deep end of an interstellar war against a swarm species that doesn’t take no for an answer. Across over 20 novels (and counting), Richard delivers stories packed with heart, explosions, and the occasional bad decision.

Richard lives in Wellington with the love of his life, Rae. They have cats, who chase birds. The birds, who have the power of flight, don’t seem to mind.

My, my, my Delilah. My Sheroe, definitely! A super bad-ass heroine with a sensitive spot for her brother, and majorly page-turning plot line. A hard hitting thriller, written in a gritty and no holds barred style. It really did touch all the right buttons for me, between its awesomely designed cover and a highly cool concept of augmented technology, and surprising twists! A riveting story with action, and vengeance…a fantastic read!
I'm so happy to know there's going to be a sequel/series!

This story was such a delight I almost cried when it came to an end (I’m a 230+ pound former firefighter) and what a satisfying end it was. Yes, I did cry, I admit it.
Delilah was a rather short story that should have been ten times longer. Not because for the lack of a great plot, characters both good and bad, environments, etc., but because it was simply so very enjoyable! I wish I could come up with a better word for it than enjoyable. How about fantastic! Or Absolutely kick assed! Yes, yes, that’s the one!
This sci-fi tale was so action packed, so intelligently written, so so so....damned hard to put down!
I really want to tell everyone the story right here and now, but I promised, no spoilers.
Let me just say that there are few stories that measure up to this one and most are from the same author!
The protagonist, Delilah, was so awesome I wanted to marry her, but then she would probably kill me, so I forgot that idea and went with just saying she’s got to be the most rewarding character in the world!
If you like action, lots of visceral action, awesome characters with evil versus good versus evil again and then back to....well you know what I mean, unbelievable environments that make a story shine, more evil, etc., then treat yourself to reading this. You won’t be sorry you did, at least until the end and you start crying because it’s over.
But then I heard it might be connected to some other stories and we might get more!
That would be awwwesome!
Thank you Richard for such a rich sci-fi tale!

Superb cyberpunk novella.

Fantastic characters, an action drenched adventure set in an intriguing world with some great tech.

Delilah is lethal, a real kick-butt individual who you really would not enjoy getting on the wrong side of.
And from she who never notices covers, this one is a ripper!
More please...

Ooh, my new favorite heroine!
Delilah is hired to do a simple job, find a criminal who destroyed people's lives, including her brother's. She's sure it will be easy; she's a pro. But nothing is ever simple when the syndicates are involved.
'Delilah' is a wild ride in a tech-driven future. The mayhem never stops in this short story set in the same world as Parry's earlier book, 'Upgrade.' But for all the fancy tech, it's the characters that drive the story. I definitely recommend 'Delilah'.

She has the best bionics money could buy and it would not help her brother. She has a chance to kill but he tells her a story. Now she is unsure what to do now. Can working with him help her brother? Can she find the truth? See she will do
I received an advanced copy and I enjoyed it so much that I want to review

An interesting novella set in a cyberpunk world with the mix of Delilah and Sampson historical story. I thought it was funny and it made me laugh out loud due to its heavy crazy fighting action. Delilah was a great great character and fighter. And the twist of who really was the bad guy was great. Loved the ending. I thought it was funny.

*I received a free copy of this book, with thanks to the author. The decision to review and my opinions are my own.*

Wow! Straight in at the action right from the start, Delilah takes us on a fast-paced adrenaline explosion of high tech and black ops, firefights and corporate espionage.

Parry has created a world of tech syndicates and bionically-enhanced humans that forms a fascinating backdrop to Delilah’s kick-the-door-in and take-no-prisoners attitude.

The book is a quick read and the plot is action-packed and high stakes. The main character, Delilah is a genuinely tough, kick-ass protagonist; a professional who gets the job done and deals with the consequences afterwards. I loved her!

Delilah is a short, sharp rush of awesomeness, and I will definitely be checking out the rest of Parry’s work…definitely the rest of Chromed, but his Tyche series looks fab too, so I’ll let you know! ;)

Delilah shook Scott’s hand. “Likewise.” She eased herself into the seat opposite them. It was the tiny details you noticed, like their lack of drinks, and their lack of weapons. When the real job interview started, they didn’t expect to be a part of it, and they wanted to be sharp enough to get out of the line of fire in time. “What’s Reed want?”
Scott winced. “Reed? This isn’t–”
“Hey,” said Delilah, “I’m just going to cut you off there. You and I both know this is a Reed gig. The barman is Reed black ops. The woman across from him pretending to flirt over her martini is his partner. The asshole down the back is one of your company enforcers. I’m not a hundred percent sure on the guy out front. I figure him for a night-only rental. Might have come with the Bourbon.”
“The what?” said Lily.
“The Tarmac Bourbon,” said Delilah. “It’s the name of the bar you rented for your interview circuit.” She looked around. “It’s a nice place.”

I was hooked before the middle of the first page. The calm self-assured way Delilah dissected and broke down her surroundings told me something major was about to transpire and that she had planned for most contingencies and would be more than capable of handling anything unplanned, she did not disappoint. Loved the almost scalpel like way she went about conducting the interview with an almost balletic like movement.

A strong female lead is always nice to see. She had an Achilles’s, her brother. With him, her cool clear head was clouded by guilt and a need to avenge his victimization. While she did have the urge to go in guns blazing to an enemy that gave her an open invitation she at least was able to keep a somewhat open mind.

The biblical play on Sampson and Delilah was a very interesting little twist on the original story. Delilah could have taken the easy way and just destroyed on sight, she at least listened and discovered much more than she had bargained for. Loved how she would make each shot count since it was only her trying to bring what she believed to be a giant corporation.

My only pause was the ending. One the book was too short, I wanted more and two the ending seemed to almost be a fade out. Then again its hard to wrap up that much badassery in a neat little bow at story end.

This is something called a short story by us pheasants. It means that it's not something that will take up the early hours of the morning. I find books like this a pain. You just start liking them and then there gone and fairness has you writing an honest review a subjective thing about what I like or dislike in something I value highly, an author using his talents.

A story typical for Parry with heavy emphasis on a great character. When you have the best cyborg tech you might find that the best piece is till the human heart and Conscious. Set in his cyperpunk world this shows that Parry can write in a surprising amount of different genres although this is but a taster where i really want a proper sized story to satisfy my craving for more.

I think this is my favorite of the cyber punk series. Seemed to relate the character. Hope Mike and Dee get together in Chromed: Restore. I suspect and expect that they will. They are all to rich to let fade from the story line.
