Future Forfeit City #3

Chromed: Meltdown

Rate this book
It’s 2150AD.
Metatech enforcer Mike Takahashi’s vacation is off to a bad start.

When Mike wakes on a slab, a bone saw a handspan from his arm, it's all the confirmation he needs that someone is harvesting Metatech operatives for spare parts. Naked and weaponless isn’t the best way to start a break-out of a top-secret research facility, but Mike feels he has the right incentives to get the job done.

Cut off from company support and hopelessly outgunned, Mike needs to escape. His ‘adventure holiday’ turns terrifying as Amsterdam’s nuclear reactor shakes the city. If it explodes and triggers an earthquake, millions will perish.

Mike must flee Amsterdam or die.

About the author

Richard Parry

Richard Parry has worked as a senior marketing manager in one of the world’s top tech companies, but it wasn't all cocaine parties. His debut novel Night’s Favor and its sequel Night’s Fall have been shortlisted for the Sir Julius Vogel Award “Best Novel” category.

His ever-growing list of novels spans urban fantasy, cyberpunk, and space opera, featuring flawed heroes, sharp dialogue, and a healthy dose of action. His Night’s Champion trilogy follows an alcoholic-turned-werewolf saving the world, while Future Forfeit explores a neon-drenched cyberpunk future where hacking the system is just the start. Meanwhile, Ezeroc Wars throws readers into the deep end of an interstellar war against a swarm species that doesn’t take no for an answer. Across over 20 novels (and counting), Richard delivers stories packed with heart, explosions, and the occasional bad decision.

Richard lives in Wellington with the love of his life, Rae. They have cats, who chase birds. The birds, who have the power of flight, don’t seem to mind.

Cyberpunk kicking Ass

As a multi genre author its good to see that Parry brings the same to this his Cyberpunk, Blade Runner meets William Gibson in a world where corporations rule the roost and inter corp wars are a constant he brings the big and small picture with his usual attention to detail for the characters. It's a bit early but i think this author may be on the verge of cracking it big as his works expand. The realistic nitty gritty corp back stabbing and tech enhancements make for a great background to intensive character portrayals that bring the reader into this world and one that i through my enjoyed immensely.
It looks like this will be done the same way as his bestselling Ezeroc Wars series so I assume it will follow lots of short stories with intensive bonding with the reader as part of an expansion into this genre/world. 5 out of 5 stars

I’m totally enchanted with Parry’s work! Never have enough of it, be it the Tyche’s series or this Cyberpunk one! Richard’s got an exceptional and unique way with words, an original and creative way with descriptions of characters’ backgrounds, be them good or bad, a true Storymancer. Even his villains are great, you can’t avoid admire them. The social, emotional in-depth is grasping and compelling. Once I get pulled in this universe, it’s hard to get back to reality. Sometimes hardcore action, gritty, but always a touch of humour in the dialogue makes Parry’s books worth a read! I very much recommend all his books! Did I mention in any of my other reviews that Richard sits next to my favourites classic authors like Asimov, Clarke... and indies like Shepherd, Austin Dragon...Lea Gordon, and some more? Well, now you know!

This was a fun read. I loved the hero of the story. He is big strong agent that doesn't take shit from anyone or anything. Can't say he has the best luck. Seems like he almost dies several times but came out on top most times. It action packed with really neat sci-fi added in. Very futuristic. And of course there is hot babes. Mr Perry can weave a great adventure and I couldn't put the book down until I finished it. He is a wonderful storyteller. Can't wait to get my hands on another Mike Takahashi adventure. Going to pick up one of his other stories I'm sure I'll enjoy it also, I'll let you know.

Searching for missing agents takes Mike to Amsterdam. He becomes a one-man wrecking crew. I enjoyed this side book from the Chromed series. Parry delivers an action packed little story that hits the ground running and doesn't stop. I love the interaction of his characters and snarky dialogue. Can't wait for the next one.

This is one of three side stories from the new “Upgrade” remaster universe and it’s pure sci-fi adrenaline on paper (or ebook 😄).
It’s a great standalone story but even better when read as a part of the “Upgrade” series.

When is a vacation a bad thing? When it’s really not a vacation but more of a demand from your boss to go check out some bad guys off the books. There are definitely no drinks with umbrellas or palm trees waiting for Mike when he lands. Instead he finds himself fighting for his life while trying to piece together some intel with a sexy voice in his head.

As they say things go from bad to worse at times and this is definitely the case for Mike as he must save the world, while avoiding ending up as one of the Metatech’s he’s come to find out about.

You get snarky retorts and blast everything that moves scenarios. There are some slower parts where you get to see a different side of an efficient killing machine but for the most part its explosions and one crazy bullet laden situation after the other. A great explosive read.

Not for our hero, anyway.

This is an SF action romp with lots of intrigue, guns, and explosions, all wrapped together in a solid story. This is book three in the series and while it can be read as a standalone (I did), it is better to read them in order. There is a lot of background detail that you are going to want (not need) to know.

The story is well written with strong characters who have depth along with mad skills. Do be warned that it is a bit of a page turner. Once you start, you will have a hard time putting it down and that felling doesn't end when the book does. You will then want to pick up the next one and keep going.

Highly recommended.

Love the clever writing, wit, story line and characters. Richard Parry is my new favorite author. Read the Future Forfeit City Stories while waiting for Chromed: Retore book three to be released. Should be in about 10 days. Enjoyed all the books in the cyber punk series. Meanwhile, back to finish Chesapeake and about a dozen other books I bought on intro deals.

A 5 Star's Cyberpunk Novella.

I'm becoming invested or maybe it's infected by this world, maybe it's a little of both.
Techno Thriller, Techno Speak, page-turning wanting more.
A wonderful and worthwhile Cyberpunk read.
I recommend you check it out for yourselves.

Great cyberpunk, moves at a fast pace. Almost too fast tbh but it's an exciting writing style and fits the slick-hustle pace of the genre
