Gabriel's Inferno #4

Gabriel's Promise

Rate this book
New York Times bestselling author Sylvain Reynard returns with the fourth installment of the beloved Gabriel's Inferno series.

When Gabriel and Julia Emerson first lay eyes on their newborn daughter, Clare, they realize life as they know it will never be the same. Gabriel has vowed to be a good father when he suddenly receives an invitation to give a series of lectures in Edinburgh, Scotland—an opportunity of high prestige—but that would mean leaving his wife and child in Boston. Hesitant to bring it up, he keeps the opportunity from Julia as long as he can, not knowing she has a secret of her own.

When a frightening situation arises that threatens their new family, both parents must make sacrifices. With the family in danger, the looming question remains: Will Gabriel pursue his lectureship in Edinburgh, leaving Julia and Clare vulnerable in Boston, or will he abandon the chance of a lifetime in order to ensure his family's safety?

I'm interested in the way literature can help us explore aspects of the human condition - particularly suffering, sex, love, faith, and redemption. My favourite stories are those in which a character takes a journey, either a physical journey to a new and exciting place, or a personal journey in which he or she learns something about himself/herself.

I'm also interested in how aesthetic elements such as art, architecture, food, drink, and music can be used to tell a story or to illuminate the traits of a particular character. In my writing, I combine all of these elements with the themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the transformative power of goodness.

MOST ANTICIPATED! I just love stories that digs deep in plot and symbolism. Add an unforgettable brooding professor and his off-limits student to the mix…

I love Professor Gabriel Emerson. This original trilogy were some of my favorite books and I truly loved revisiting these characters. Gabriel and Julia are in a different place now then when we last left them. They're married and Julia has just given birth to their daughter, Claire.

I loved seeing baby Claire and the two of them become parents. I enjoyed reading this book, but to be honest, I was a bit bored while reading a lot of it. It felt like one of those books that wasn't really necessary to the series. There was a bit of drama was was unnecessary IMO and some things left unresolved, which makes me think there might be a fifth book in this series.

Though this book wasn't a favorite for me, this series still holds a special place in my heart and I think some fans of this series may love it, it just didn't quite work for me.

As a huge fan of Gabriel's Inferno series, this must be one of the hardest reviews I have ever written.

It has been years since I have read initial trilogy so it is hard to recall the details. But I clearly remember beautiful prose, easy flow of the story and emotional impact that books had on me. Sadly, all these aspects are completely missing in this fourth instalment. Dialogues felt rigid and forced, storyline dragged. So even though it was lovely to revisit my beloved characters, I can't help but feel that this book has no added value to the series.

Moreover, all that unnecessary drama that was brought on just for the sake of the drama made this novel look cheap in comparison with the perfection that were first three books. Especially, considering that some parts of the storyline were not even resolved by the end of this book. Which means that (a) there is going to be fifth book or (b) Mr. Reynard did kind of a sloppy job and left some parts with open-ended ending. Either way I am not happy with the result.

Don't take me wrong, there were some good parts but nothing that would make my heart race as was common with previous books. So if you are huge fan of this series like myself, I suggest to give this book a chance to see for yourself. Maybe you will like it better than I did. But make sure to lower your expectations...

This is the fourth book in the Gabriel's Inferno series and you really do need to read these books in order to fully understand and appreciate the storyline. I read the first books in this series FAST when they came out. They instantly ignited my attention (bad pun) and had me turning the pages until I reached the very end. This one not so much. The first three books also ignited my curiosity and I did pick up Inferno by Dante (2X) after reading the first book in the series. That was WORK. Whew! The first time I attempted to read it, I thought …. I honestly don’t know what got this duo so jacked up while reading this book. Of course, they were reading it in Italian, and I was attempting an English translated version. I thought I was going to bleed from my eyeballs. But then I found another version (in English) and this time the translation really worked for me and I really enjoyed it. So, I do have this series and the Author to thank for expanding my reading taste/experience. Obviously, there is a lot of Dante talk, they are academics after all and Dante Is their shared passion (well, maybe not their only shared passion).

Although, this book did not have me flipping the pages as fast as the earlier books, I still enjoyed this one. This book does pick up where the third book leaves off and shows Gabriel and Julia adjusting to parenthood, their careers and of course, an unknown danger which lies just around the corner. I would have liked to have seen some of the issues raised in this book be resolved. Things are left open-ended and I'm sure they will be addressed in the next book. This book left me wanting more and not in the I-can't-wait-for-the-next-book way but in the I-can't-believe-there-are-no-answers-way. But it was nice to check in on the Emerson's. I also wanted to shake both for their secrets. I did get a kick out of the flamingos (what?) - read the book!

There is also a movie in the works. Passionflix has optioned the first three books in the series. Yes, that's right folks.

Thank you to Berkley Publishing and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

In the darkness of the hospital room, Gabriel resolved to protect, love, and care for his wife and his daughter, no matter the cost.

I still feel that books one and two are the best in this series. I may not have loved the plot of ”GABRIEL’S PROMISE”, but I still have so much love for Professor Emerson. He was the first professor that captured my heart and in this latest installment, Gabriel is still madly in love with Julia and completely devoted to his little family. His interactions with Clare are heartwarming. It just felt like the author threw way too many impossible challenges at Gabriel and Julia almost at the same time, and then he may have realized this and tried to resolve some of them without giving a real explanation. I think the health issues and huge career opportunities were enough to carry the story to the end. All the mystery and intrigue involving past enemies and possibly new ones was a bunch of unnecessary drama. Overall the writing as always was stellar, and I even found some of the Dante and Beatrice references interesting.

I’m hoping that the author will let Gabriel and Julia ride into the sunset to live happily ever after and end the series on a high note.

Here are my overall ratings:

Hero: 5
Heroine: 3
Plot: 4
Angst: 4
Steam: 4
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 4

This fourth book starts right where book 3 ended. In the hospital with baby Clare and new parents Julia and Gabriel.

Once we're released it's all about baby, godparents, diapers, waking up in the middle of the night, family, friends, work.

But there's also this very suspicious car that Gabriel sees driving by the house a few times.

But we don't really have time to worry about that too much, because we need to decide if and how Gabriel can accept this new amazing job opportunity in Scotland without leaving his family behind!!

A very exciting time for the Emersons ....

What will happen with Julia & Gabriel?
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT!

We're FINALLY back in Gabriel's world.

An amazing world full of Dante, grouchy professors, adorable babies, exciting and sexy moments and so much more.

I wanted to read this book in one sitting ...

description

but I also wanted to take my time! I never want this series to end!

I really enjoyed reading it.

I re-read the first three books to prepare for this one, because my Bookalzheimers is just way too bad. I couldn't remember most details about wha happened to our darlings!

I loved this fourth book. I adored the baby and daddy moments. Gabriel is just the most amazing & hilariously ridiculous daddy!

I also loved the whole mystery about the possible danger that this car might bring into our happy new lives. And all those problems about his work, her work, combining the two. Plus we have another little health mystery - we hope that nothing bad will happen there!!

I really loved this story. BUT now I have to say what I hated.

The first ?? 30% or so of the book ... ugh. I wanted to throw the book out the next window on page 2 in the first chapter. And then again in almost every chapter. I HATE RELIGION! I know the Emersons are religious. There was some of that - ok, a lot - in the previous books, but it was so much worse here. At least it felt like that to me. There was so much talk about god and praying and faith. I really wanted to stop reading. If it had been any other book, I would've stopped and I would've rated it 2 stars and I would've told the author to stop selling it as a romance, but to instead put it on the christian cult recruitment shelf. It was really bad. American readers will probably not have a problem with it, religion is so much bigger in America, but I just hate everything about it! I don't want it in my romances! Period!
End of rant!

Two more tiny little things I hated. Julia. Why don't you just tell your husband things?!?! Life would be so much easier if people in books would talk to each other right away!

Plus, there was a bit too much professor-y-show-off Dante stuff in here. I didn't sign up for a college course. I wanted to read an amazing romance and not chapters after chapters of Dante and hell and faith and whatnot! I love the prologue - the tiny little heartbreaking glimpse into Dante & Beatrice, but that would've been enough for me!

BUT - as I said before... I loved this book!

And Dante and religion just have to be in this series. And because I love Gabriel and Julia so much, I didn't get too upset about all that stuff. ☺ I loved reading it and I can't wait to see the first book turned into a movie next year! #Passionflix

GABRIEL'S PROMISE was a perfect addition to this amazing series! Adorable, funny, mysterious, sexy, Dante-y. I loved it!

P.S. I think due to the relative 'openness' of the ending ... we might get at least one more book!!! EEEEP!!!! ☺☺☺

One word to describe this book- unnecessary!!
I was hesitant to read this book in the first place, that is the reason, why I am reading it so far after they released it. I loved the original trilogy. True, I never reread it but I have loving memories of it...
But wth was this????!!!

* there is no plot
* one thing that happened is unresolved - who did the break-in???
* Julia & Gabriel are unrelatable, privileged & pretentious ( were they always?)

My friend Nicola gives such a great review of this book that mirrors my sentiments too... so check her nicer version...

glad to move it from my tbr and just be over it...and NO, I am not reading more books about these too...

My signed copies of the Gabriel’s Inferno trilogy take pride of place on my bookshelf having travelled across the Atlantic in my hand luggage under my watchful eye and I’ve lost count how many times I’ve read Inferno & Rapture. But rather than squee with excitement when I heard a fourth book was planned, I was more reserved—too much of a good thing and all that.

description If my soul is yours, my body is also.”

It was no hardship spending more time with my favourite Professor and number one book-boyfriend, watching as he and Julia tackle parenthood which definitely put a new perspective on their relationship and their careers. Overall though, whilst enjoyable, Gabriel’s Promise didn’t add any extra weight to my love of the series and with parts of the storyline left loose, I’m not convinced that we’ve seen the last of the Emerson’s. Which I have mixed feelings on.

description …falling in love is easy; it’s life that’s complicated.”

Glad I read but unlike its predecessors, not a keeper for me.

If you’ve followed me for any length of time on social media, you already know that Sylvain Reynard is one of my favorite authors. I’ve been a devoted reader of SR’s since 2010 and my love for Prof. Gabriel O. Emerson knows no bounds. When it comes to book boyfriends, no one comes close to The Professor. So when it was announced that “Gabriel’s Promise” would be published, my excitement went into overdrive.

The fourth book in this series picks up right where “Gabriel’s Redemption” left off. As a reminder, “Redemption” is a story in which The Professor seemingly has it all. But even as Gabriel and Julia navigate through their newlywed bliss, Gabriel remains convinced that his happiness is destined to be short-lived, that it could be ripped away at any moment. When his infant daughter, Clare, is born and placed in his arms for the first time at the conclusion of book three, we get a glimpse of how blessed Gabriel’s life will become by fatherhood.

“Gabriel’s Promise” takes this glimpse and fully immerses us in those first precious days and weeks of new parenthood. Gabriel’s love for Clare is limitless and it’s a joy to read. The Professor dotes on his Principessa as only he can, and I took it all in with a big smile. Seeing Gabriel achieve true happiness has been a long time in the making. He is an amazing dad. Naturally, there are some complications that arise for the Emersons during this time. What’s interesting to read is how Gabriel chooses to deal with his obstacles in “Promise” compared to the earlier books.

My only word of caution would be for those who haven’t yet read “The Florentine Series” or “The Man In The Black Suit.” There are elements from those books that have found their way into “Gabriel’s Promise” and might cause some mild confusion. That’s not to say that you need to read those books before diving into this one. Just be aware that some dots won’t be fully connected with this novel, and that you may want to move on to those other stories afterward.

“Gabriel’s Promise” is my first read of 2020, and as usual, SR sets the storytelling bar high for my subsequent reads this year. I’m giving this novel five stars for it’s heart, humor, sexiness, and the mere existence of the dazzling Prof. Gabriel O. Emerson.

(If you thought Gabriel was hot before, just wait until you spot him strolling through the Harvard campus with Clare in a fancy Swedish baby carrier.)

I am still head over heels in love with Gabriel and Julianne. ❤️😍

description

I am a huge fan of Sylvain Reynard because of this series and it has been years since I've read the last book, Gabriel's Redemption. Here, we witness their married life and having a beautiful daughter, Clare, is a wonderful blessing to their family. Gabriel and Julianne grown so much as a couple and as individuals. Their love and support for each other was strong and profound. The romance between them still makes my heart race and gives me butterflies.

Starting their family has its spices and it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. They've encountered challenges -- health related issues, career conflicts and Gabriel receiving threats that could affect his family's safety. Since the leading characters have great career offers from different locations, they have to take risks and sacrifices. Gabriel wants his wife and daughter close to him. Some of you might think he's selfish but man, you'll love how sweet and adoring father he is to his daughter. It makes me love him more.

As for Julianne, she is a natural. A loving, resilient mother and wife. I love how independent she is and refuses to be manipulated. She's so intelligent and bright. Just like her husband. Her character is very close to my heart and she will always be one of my favorite heroines in romance books.

Overall, this book is magnificently written. Sylvain Reynard's writing is truly engaging and without a doubt, I will look forward for his future novels. I'm not sure if this is the conclusion to the series. I'm still seeking answers about who threatened them. Is it random and I want to follow Julianne's career path. If it's the ending, I'm perfectly fine with it. This book is already a bonus for me. <3

I have been a big fan of Gabriel’s series by Sylvain Reynard. I read them years back but I recall being enthralled by the story, the torment., the emotions, the love and the beautiful prose.

Gabriel’s promise is a different story from the other books, more “mature” as Gabriel and Julianne are now parents. I think seeing them as a married couple was both a blessing as Sylvain Reynard truly did a masterful job at painting parenthood and a curse. A curse as some of the uncertainty in their relationship disappeared, leaving out some of the hottest and angsty moments of the former books.

I want to praise Sylvain Reynard for writing so deftly about parenthood. All the emotions, the protectiveness, the wonders at being parents were extremely realistic. I loved how Gabriel was doting on his daughter. I loved how he worshipped Julianne. I loved how devoted he was to his family.

This is a time for reflection, for looking back on your life. With a baby your perspective in life is changing. Your relationship and the dynamic you have with your parents is changing.

This is the age of maturity. The age of serenity. Professor Emerson is at peace, finally.
“He listened to the gentle tide of his wife’s breathing and the soothing quiet of the household. Then Gabriel slept.”

Being a mother, I could totally relate to these first days, weeks, months with your newborn.

It truly was a delight to read.

On the other hand, even if Sylvain Reynard took care to show us their passion still intact and even added some dangers and angst in the story, the intensity, the despair that affected me so deeply in the previous books was absent or muted. I must also confess that the intricate discussions about Dante and the other theories …lost me. I love learning more about Italian culture and art but it was just too complicated for me to follow everything. Add to this what I believe is an open ending as one of the book’s mystery is still unsolved and you have the reasons why I did not give this book a 5 stars.

But it would not be fair for this book if I didn’t mention how Sylvain Reynard stayed true to his characters! I loved how Gabriel was in love with refined pleasures! His need for luxury gave us some funny moments when Julianne tried to guide her husband on a less privileged path in a need to avoid raising a spoiled brat!
“As soon as I’m better, I’ll introduce you to the magic of Target. We can browse the aisles with a large red cart, sip a Starbucks coffee, and do everything ourselves.” “You and I have different understandings of the term magic,” said Gabriel imperiously.

Should you read this book? If you have read the other ones certainly! Sylvain’s prose is still magnificent and reading about Gabriel and Julianne’s “Happy Ever After” warmed by heart.

Have you read the other books in this series?
Thanks for reading!

Professor Gabriel Emerson is a well known Dante specialist from Harvard who made a name for himself at the University of Toronto. He’s now a full time professor at Boston University and lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts with his wife Julia and new baby Clare. Gabriel and Julia were a few months away from their second wedding anniversary, and had come a long way since she was his graduate student. They’d survived scandal, and separation, and now life was about being a family. As they are settling in to being new parents they encounter unexpected drama, new opportunities, and academic challenges. Through everything they continue to put family and their love first.

To my darling Julianne,
You’re asleep against my shoulder. Your hair is spilling onto my shoulder. Your warm breath is floating over my neck.
You look peaceful. You look beautiful. Our rest is frequently interrupted these days, so I don’t dare move, for fear of waking you.
You look comfortable and relaxed, trusting me to watch over you while you sleep. To protect you. To warm you. To hold you close.
This is love. A peaceful sleep in the arms of one’s beloved.
There was a time when you didn’t trust me. We have a history, you and I, which spans many years.
And here we are. My beloved Beatrice, my wife, sleeps against my shoulder in the bed we share in the house we own together.
I pray we will have a long, healthy, happy life together – we and our children. I pray I will one day sit in a seminar you are teaching and raise my hand to challenge you, knowing full well you will best me when you reply.
I will never be worthy of you, but I promise always to love and protect you, to honor and cherish you.
Your devoted and wide awake husband,
Gabriel.

When I saw that Sylvain Reynard was giving us another peek into the life of Julia and Gabriel I was thrilled I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. I loved their story from the first word of Gabriel's Inferno until the last word of Gabriel's Redemption.

In Gabriel's Promise we see how their family is evolving with their beautiful little girl, Clare, but some things are still what we have come to expect and love. The heat, the passion, the deep devotion, the miscommunication, and the suspense.

Now I will admit that I read this book a few months ago and for some reason didn't write my review which is terrible on so many levels. But if I had I wouldn't be able to add this: I got to see Julia and Gabriel come to life this weekend thanks to Passionflix which will be bringing the series to us and it just reinforced my love for this series. I cannot wait for the next installment.

This is the fourth book in the series and it needs to be read in the order in which it has been released in order to follow the growth in this beautiful love story.

Happy Reading!!!

I am an extremely big fan of Sylvain’s work and everything that has been written by this author was devoured. I am in love with the writing, with the story and the characters, the way the plot is created and the way the reader is involved in the action. I was completely absorbed from the first book than I came across and ever since – HOOKED completely.

“The Gabriel Series” is one of my favorite romance series and it sparked my interest for student – professor romance. I really enjoy books with age difference and also because the romance is totally forbidden. The thrills and the passion are one of the main attractions for me and I always say YES to the challenge. Besides that, Gabriel had such an impact on me that even after sooo many romance novels, I consider him by first BFF.

“Gabriel’s Promise” is the book we all have been waiting for, a full length „epilogue” (from my POV) that will bring us Gabriel and Julia back to see how exactly how do they cope with parenting and new responsibilities. I loved the book and wanted it to last longer, because I missed the characters and wanted to know soooo much more about them.

I felt like I was left hanging and that the perspective was abruptly cut exactly when things were getting interesting. Sylvain was building the set up for the plot, inserting a mysterious element that was very interesting to watch, everything was progressing and happening and suddenly, when I pressed next, it was over. WHAT?? Nooo ☹

I loved that Gabriel’s was fine and loving his new status as a father. We was exactly like I imagined him to be and nothing was changed. His anger, his passion for Julia, his love and devotion for Clare and his stubbornness were intact, without anything to add. I simply liked reading about him and being inside his head, see the man that will do anything for his family. I told you I missed him terribly. 🙂 He has a very powerful personality, a passion which is driving him in his professional career but also personal one. From page one of “Gabriel’s Inferno” I loved him and this is why I think he is irreplaceable.

For those who have read the „Florentine series” there were a lot of clues and points to connect, which made the reading very delectable. It was a very enjoyable book, but too short for me to give it 5 stars. Don’t get me wrong, the joy of meeting Gabriel again was enormous and I really hope Sylvain will continue the series, even with glimpse and pieces, I’ll take anything. 😊

3.5-4 ⭐'s

I finished this series back in 2015 so I was concerned that some things would be a bit fuzzy. Luckily, that wasn't the case for the most part and the author picks right up where things ended.

Gabriel and Julia had baby Clare and Gabriel is the best dad. So many things made me laugh about how he handled certain matters and how he got flustered.

Both Gabriel and Julia have a lot going on in their careers and personal lives and circumstances are always on the verge of causing problems. They both have to find a way to make it work. I was really proud of both of them for the way they handled things.

There's some drama...some a bit over the top and some unresolved. I felt it really distracted from the story. And I know it's a viable part of the story but the Dante stuff was (still/always) killing me. It's a big snoozefest.

It ended as if there could be another book which I wouldn't mind at all.

3.5 stars just because this book had so much potential and yet... it didn't add anything to the story and it didn't feel like a book from the Gabriel's Inferno series.

This book would've been good if it wasn't for the unnecessary drama, the lack of uniqueness found in the previous books, and also... the lack of a story in itself? It felt like a short story or a companion book to the series, nothing more.

I love Gabriel and Julia and Clare and Katherine and the Clarks, but... this book wasn't it for me. Sorry.

It's been years since I've last stepped inside the sexy Professor Emerson's world, and it took this latest release for me to realize just how much I missed him and his beloved Julianne. Enamored with this couple from their first enchanted night spent under the stars in the apple orchard, through all the trials and tribulations they endured, they have become some of my most cherished storybook characters. Beyond thrilled to see their journey was continuing. A new chance to witness, once again, the love they share strengthen as well as seeing their family grow with the adorable Clare. As expected, there was a whirlwind of drama surrounding this couple that had me on edge and totally captivated, as the overly passionate and protective Gabriel promises to keep his loved ones safe.

Happily married and now a new dad, a gentler side of Gabriel emerged. It was heartwarming to see how his character evolved from the self-centered man that was introduced in book one, to the selfless and caring hero obsessively committed to his family. His change was all thanks to the soft-spoken yet strong-willed Julia, his heart and soulmate. She and Clare are the centers of his world, and he would stop at nothing to guard them, even sacrificing himself if necessary. A true hero in every sense of the word. As if I could not adore him more, he had me absolutely swooning throughout this entire read as my Gabriel had not lost a bit of his intensity, his penchant for high heels, public displays of affection, and raw sexual magnetism.

Brilliantly written, Gabriel's Promise was a delightful addition to the series as Reynard is a masterful storyteller. I appreciated the time this author dedicated to explaining past circumstances and characters, whenever they arose, reminding me of Gabriel and Julianne's history. There was a heavy focus on the academics and theories involving Dante and Beatrice, a bit much at times, as I found myself a tad distracted from this couple's love story. Like with previous novels, the plot was a delicious slow-build, laced with a scorching hot passion, oodles of drama and mystery that had me totally consumed. My only gripe was I did not want the story to end, especially leaving some matters unresolved. I do hope that there will be another sequel soon, that would tie up all loose ends.

When I saw Gabriel's Promise hit my kindle I did a little dance because more GABRIEL & JULIA EMERSON!!! These two have a special relationship and now that they are a family of 3 it's no longer just about them but of their sweet-Clare ❤

I don't want to give much away because I want you to get lost in their story and go through the rollercoaster of emotions I went through. I had many questions at the end of Gabriels's Redemption and I feel they were answered in this one. Though I wondered if Gabriel & Julia would finally get their act together and truly start communicating with each other...I'll let you keep guessing on that one 😉

Well I know I'm being greedy here but I wish we could keep getting more on Gabriel & Julia. I feel as they are part of my family (the kind we choose)!! Be ready to read nonstop because it will keep you guessing and on your toes ❤ Kara~ 5 Stars

For me, reading a new volume from the Gabriel'sInferno series is like participating in a family reunion and seeing dear people I haven't seen in a long time. It's good to find them!

In Gabriel's Promise, we realize how much we have grown, evolved with the characters.

We discover the legendary Professor Emerson in a new role: Dad.
Fatherhood suits him as well as his costumes.
He's just gorgeous.
As much devoted to Julia as to their little Clare, Gabriel is ready to do anything to make them happy and preserve them. No matter the risks involved, no matter the price to pay, it is his credo, it is his promise.

Julia has not only become a mother, she is now an accomplished woman.
She is no longer the young woman who was naive and too kind in the past.
Despite her doubts and anxieties, she knows how to face and rebel with tact and dignity.
All in grace and with Class.

Through its various characters, multiple themes are addressed such as family, mourning, perfidy and jealousy within the university body.

The author doesn't forget to include some romantic and memorable scenes which only Gabriel has the secret ...

SR takes his time to lay the plot but keeps us in suspense until the end, leaving us at the end with desires to know more.

I liked the bond of friendship with Nicholas Cassirer (main character of The Man in the Black Suit) brought as a cross play by the author.

Both touching and incredibly funny, Gabriel's Promise is a very good transition book inexorably calling out to a fifth volume.

Translation widget on The blog!!!

This story is a reunion of sorts with one of the most beloved couples in the romance world, as they tackle and withstand new challenges/threats.

Christina and Ana
Gideon and Eva
Gabriel and Julia
If you were a reader of romance back in 2011, you didn't need to hear the book titles to know who these characters were. Readers adored their love stories, as I did, so this was fun to be immersed in their world at catch up with the changes in Gabriel and Julia's lives.

The biggest change since we last heard from the couple is the birth of their daughter, Clare Grace Hope Emerson. This book spends a significant amount of time as the married couple adapted to parenting and the joys each day brings. It was sweet how clueless Gabriel was at times, but how he adapted and relished every moment. His love for his daughter shines bright. In addition, he's love for his wife, who made the nearly impossible dream, a reality, has brought them even closer together.

In the darkness of the hospital room, Gabriel resolved to protect, love, and care for his wife and his daughter, no matter the cost.

Aside from the love story, there are a number of obstacles the two face in this book regarding their careers, as well as some more risky threats. I personally thought maybe too much was thrown in here. You have:
Gabriel's new job opportunity, away from home
The status of Julia's education and next steps
A stalker, possibly
And Julia's health

As time began to wind down, I actually thought the author would leave us with a cliffhanger. There were just too many unresolved issues, and with the ending, I'm still not clear all the open story lines came to a conclusion. But the message of the story was clear, Gabriel will always put his family first and do anything and everything to protect them and make them happy. And that is why his character remains so popular years later. While this story may not pack the punch as some of the previous installments, I think fans of this couple will still enjoy the reunion, as I did.

What’s the purpose of this book? That’s what I keep asking me, I love this trilogy and even when I would love to know what happened to Gabriel and Julia after married and have a child, I just don’t understand this book. Is very short compared with the previous one but is also unclear on why we need to read this, after all one of the important thing that happens was never explained at the end, which lead me to think of the possibility of another book, this is no the end of this two. And as much I love this trilogy I don’t think I like the idea of more books keeps coming. For me the trilogy was perfect the way it ends.

Review: Gabriel’s Promise by Sylvain Reynard

100% SPOILER FREE.

Gabriel’s Promise is Everything I Didn’t Know I Was Craving For. First of all, let me start by saying that it was delightful to read once again a new story penned by Sylvain Reynard. It’s been two years since his last release, The Man in the Black Suit, and wow! Was it worth waiting for...

However, I’ll be completely honest. I asked myself what else could be said in a story that was simply perfection? Did I doubt of Sylvain Reynard’s mind-blowing talent? No, I didn’t. But for me, Gabriel’s Redemption end was perfection. Plain and simple.

So, why would he take a risk on continuing a story that is the epitome of perfection? Because Sylvain Reynard truly knows what he’s doing. He was right when he decided to listen to his characters. There was more to tell in Gabriel and Julia’s story, and I am so glad he gifted us with this AMAZING book!!! His readers deserved to have their hearts stolen once more by seeing Gabriel in his new role as a father and as a husband. They deserved to continue to be part of Mr. and Mrs. Emerson’s love story. Each chapter is a gift in itself to us.

Gabriel’s Inferno was the beginning of a series that changed my vision of life and transformed me in ways that I never thought any story could. The series is beautifully written in a poetic way that tethers masterfully the lives of their characters in a profound way, along with aspects of art, literature, and personal growth, intimacy, sensuality, and a depth of love that is so powerful that it can be felt in your soul. We keep seeing this in his latest installment of the Gabriel’s Series.

Gabriel’s Promise picks up immediately after the end of Gabriel’s Redemption. We are invited as guests of honor to have an up-close and personal look at how their lives change after the birth of their Princess, Clare. What did I love about this book?

I loved how smitten Gabriel is with Clare. Their scenes are so delightful to read! Both are charming and will steal your heart.

I loved to see how the marriage between Gabriel and Julia is evolving. I really like this Julia. She’s confident, playful, and sexy with her husband. We see her humor many times during the story. She also stands for what she believes, no matter if Gabriel agrees with her or not.

I’d also like to highlight that the poetry that typifies this series is still there. The words are beautifully written, and Gabriel is still inspired by the beauty of his Beatrice. But Sylvain Reynard did something that I think is fantastic — at least for me. This marriage felt so REAL. Yes, we read books to escape to fantasy worlds where everything is perfect and, for most of us, stories lead to happy endings. However, adding to the story the right dose of humor, disagreements, intimacy, desire, and angst makes me believe that like Gabriel once suggested, we can truly turn fantasy into our reality. That feeling is even bigger than just trying to escape to a fantasy world. It filled my heart with joy and hope.

I loved to see the importance of family. Family stays together and they cheer and support each other no matter our disagreements or how different we all are.

Gabriel’s Promise is a labor of love. Evidently, all of Sylvain Reynard’s works have an incredible amount of research. He takes care of the simplest details in each of his books, like setting the dates for each of his stories and choosing and developing the themes of lectures.

All of Sylvain Reynard's books are like a different planet in his Universe. All are connected. I read some reviews saying that there were questions left unanswered in Gabriel’s Promise, but in reality, there aren’t. If you read his Florentine Series, you'll know exactly what is going on. This book is set before that series. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it. Although it’s paranormal romance, Sylvain Reynard’s poetic and romantic style is present from start to finish. Another series exquisitely written. It will touch you deeply.

And, as if it wasn’t enough, the Gabriel Series were optioned by Passionflix and the Gabriel’s Inferno movie is set to release in May 2020! What else can we ask for?

I give Gabriel’s Promise five stars, five flamingos, five margaritas and five Emergasms. 😉
Brilliant. Another masterpiece to add to your Sylvain Reynard’s collection.
