Fyra is on the run. Permanently. Pursued by fellow underworld demons—and one very angry vampire, she’s running out of options. After failing her last mission of forcing vampire, Bishop, to give the demon world the information they want, Fyra knows she’s as good as dead. Too bad she’s no good at hiding. Everywhere she goes, fires break out. Her combustible personality is more than annoying—it’s going to get her killed. Tracked by the random fires reported on the news, her enemies can easily find her—unless Bishop can find her first.
Can be Hell.
Bishop Laurent has to free himself of the bond Fyra tricked him into…and do it without exposing his own icy secrets to anyone, especially his team. But after he captures her, he sees past her fiery personality. Her knowledge of the underworld would be a huge asset, a perfect reason to keep their bond intact. Only Fyra overhears them and refusing to be a pawn, goes on the run again. Bishop has to find her first, and this time, he must admit his real feelings for her…at least to himself. Can he find her in time to save her life and make their bond last forever? Or will they be killed fighting Hell with fire and ice?
Marie Johnston is an award-winning, best-selling paranormal and contemporary romance writer. She grew up in the upper Midwest and planned to go to college for English. Didn't happen. She started college in accounting and was awful! Grabbing her inner science geek by the pocket protector, she changed to microbiology and medical technology where her only writing involved scientific articles and procedures. Eventually, she left full-time work for full-time baby raising but kept thinking, "one day, I'd like to write a book." Finally, before any more time passed, Marie decided to buckle down and write. She loves it!
Vampires and demons aren't my usual go-to reading, being a total wimp about things that jump out of the dark, but I picked this one up because it was a RITA nominee, and I was not sorry. I loved that the heroine was a demon, and a very cool (literally) take on the underworld. If you love a lot of action and great dialogue, this one might be your catnip.
My first read with this author and it was a great book.
Story: Bishop Lauret is a vampire on the hunt for a fire demon, Frya. She is feared by all Demons in the underworld because she is able to destroy a powerful demon in an elite group called the circle, by burning him to ash.
She bonded herself to Bishop (in the previous novel). These types of bonds are known as "mating bonds" making them life mates unless one of them dies. Bishop wants to catch her and interrogate her.
What I liked about this book:
1. The story has a fast and logical pace. The world of demons was well described though I thought the ice cave was an example of "Hell freezing over".
2. The sexual chemistry between Bishop and Frya. It's not all chapters of sex. I like the way she built up the sexual tension early on.
3. The characters if Frya and Bishop were well developed explains why they are made for each other.
4. The world building by the author was excellent.
What I disliked about this book
- Rancor, the demon was too cardboard bad. He was such a predictable villain.
This could be my new favourite in series, the story between Bishop and Fyra was amazing.
so we knew from previous books that Bishop was bonded to a demon but none of the others in D's crew new. Rourke thought something strange was going on but other than that Bishop managed to keep his secret - until the demon came to earth in her natural form running from the higher order demon Rancor.
This world is refreshing in the wide genre that is vampire books and we just get given more and more as Bishops story unfolds. Id he willing to save his demon or will he try and break the bond?
Will D force him to move out and leave the team?
Demetrius in this book has to face some tough truths that not all demons are created equally evil - just like his fight with the old vampire leaders had to happen maybe a shake down of the underworld is all that is needed to bring the demons into a new alliance with the vamps and shifters.
The beginning of this story really sucked me in and I’d read half of the book in an hour or two. I read it on the KISS app, so that was part of the reason I think I read it so fast. I kept unlocking chapters anxious to see what happened next. Towards the middle of the book, I got distracted and/or it dragged for me a bit and I lost interest. I did come back to finish it but wasn’t as excited by the ending. All and all, well-written for those paranormal/fantasy lovers.
This is a real thrill. The characters are Strong and funny . Just a great series to read with a H EA . I can't wait until the next book comes out thank you
Oh great, another mate book with a male that screws every human he can find. What a prize *rolling my eyes*. We don’t want a male who screws around. He knows he has a mate somewhere but sleeps around like a hoe. Just disgusting. Romance killed.
Bishop picks up on a thread first introduced in Demetrius, where Bishop has been unknowingly bonded to a demon. Fyra gives us another point of view about what demons are, and we learn a lot about their culture, for want of a better word.
Marie knows how to make the supernatural world new and enticing in ways most authors fail at! Demons all evil or are they? As the team fights for a better world and some type of harmony between vamps, shifters and humans an abnormally moral demon stirs the pot with uncertainty . Bishop learns things about his heritage he forget as Fyra the demon actually receives the first kindness in her life from anyone other than her mother who was murdered for wanting peace with all others. A great series that isn't a repeat with a new main character in every book but rather a cohesive story line that grows and expands with each. Anxiously awaiting the next book write Marie write !!!!!!
Both characters were strong, resilient, super sexy together, intelligent, faithful, loyal, fun, and so in need of what the other can provide. The bad guy was definitely bad but the struggle was really in finding their own place both as individuals and together. Side characters were quirky, annoying, funny, and absolutely necessary. I look forward to reading more from this group, I'm invested in the series and this is the first one I've read from it. I very willingly read and reviewed an ARC of this book from the author.
