Melody has had a hell of a time, both literally and figuratively, the last couple of weeks. She saved her little vampire charges, was dragged into the underworld, trapped by a sadistic she-demon, and has woken to that demoness' powers inside her own body and threatening everyone and everything. She's got some tough choices ahead if she can't learn to control her new power and all the personality changes. The one being that has stuck with her from the beginning of her own sh**storm is also the one who shattered her heart and fragile self-worth. If she can't move beyond her past everything that's weighing on her will crush her, and if that doesn't, the Circle will.
Creed was in love with a human once. The heartbreak that followed with her death has never left him. No one knows of his own personal agony, least of all his team. What he said about Melody in Stryke was as honest as it was hurtful. While he wasn't intending for Melody to hear those words he couldn't deny that the outcome was for the best. Until all hell broke loose, literally, and she was dragged into a situation no one as sweet and wonderful as Melody deserved. He's willing to do everything in his power to save her from the Circle, even if it means saving her from herself at his own hands.
They're both in an untenable situation and if something doesn't give they're both going down. Melody is struggling under rage, pain, confusion, frustration, and an increased desire for the very man who crushed her human heart. Creed is struggling with his past and his perceptions of the old Melody versus the new Meladonna. Can he accept her for all that she is now? Can she get over herself in time to save herself and the family that turned their backs on her?
I really, really liked the story. It was intense and interesting from start to finish. Diving right back into their world and realms continuing from Demetrius to Stryke, there's a ton of upheaval and Creed and Melody are stuck right in the middle of it. Creed comes off as aloof and pompous but it's very clear right from the start that he doesn't actually mean it. Some habits are hard to break, but he's really all full of pain and compassion inside and the only one who has the ability to break through his facade is the person he's desperately trying to keep out.
I had a harder time with Melody. It felt as if she were constantly devaluing her sweeter side because of the reasons behind why she was attempting to be constantly cheerful. It negated all the power she found within herself closer to the end. As if she wanted to be a slightly less awful version of a demon leader rather than being truly benevolent but masking that true goodness with what was more acceptable in the underworld. It looked more like she was losing something pure and had no desire to get it back because strength and power was more important than goodness. She recognized all the good things her bitterness was covering and overshadowing but there was never an apology or something heartfelt and good that came from her just attempting to be as truly bare for Creed as he was for her. I was disappointed in her even though she found strength and control and could do good for the underworld. There was just something about her sweetness and cheerfulness that I fell in love with from when we first met her and then it was like that didn't matter anymore.
So, yes, strength, power, and control is all important. To feel valued, important, loved, needed, those are good things too. It's also important to be honest and good. Creed was more of all of those things than Melody by the end and while I loved him for everything he was, it was his understanding, kindness, empathy, and support that made him utterly amazing. For all of Melody's power as Meladonna and new-found strength of will and determination, she wasn't nearly as emotionally present and stable to be the best romantic partner for Creed. I hope that we get to see her emotional growth and maturity increase as we see her in the periphery of the rest of the series.

I have loved all of Marie Johnston’s books since reading ‘Fever Claim’ a few years ago. Since then I have purchased every series she has written as soon as they came out. That is why I was so thrilled to finally get the opportunity to receive an advanced reader copy/ARC of ‘Creed’ in exchange for an honest review. Being able to get my hands on this book to read before release day made me a very happy reader!
This is the fifth book in the New Vampire Disorder series. Though the author does a great job of explaining the overall story arc, I feel you would definitely get a better enjoyment of the story by reading the other four books first. It’s set in the same world as her Sigma Menace and Pale Moonlight series so there are brief glimpses of some characters from those books as well.
If you have read the synopsis of this book you know that Melody is a human and Creed a vampire who tries to stay clear of her because of his own past and the fact that she has such a short life span. It doesn’t help that when he meets her a few books back he is in a ‘friends with benefits’ relationship with a co-worker, which he continues right up until his ‘friend’ Zoey finds her own mate. This was a point of contention for me since I prefer stories where the two love interests don’t have sex with anyone else once they have met, even if they are not together yet. So it took me a little bit to forgive Creed for that even if he believed they would never be together anyway and was just getting on with his life.
I will also admit that I had a bit of a problem with Melody through the first half of the book. I just didn’t like her very much, most specifically when she first became ‘Meladonna’ and was running high on her new found powers. She started out as this whiney, nobody loves me, insecure twit who then turned into a rage filled ‘too stupid to live’ heroine once she received her demon powers. Fortunately the author was able to work her through this immature stage of her development in a realistic manner, even though her most ‘too stupid to live’ moment turned out favorably for her in a very unrealistic and irritating way when she decided she was going to become one of the Circle of 13.
How Marie was able to make me absolutely love her and Creed together by the end still amazes me. One of the best things about her stories is how the main characters in each book are completely different in personality and temperament. There are no cookie cutter couples in these books. So finding my dislike of Melody with her Sybil-like mood swings, turn into a ‘rooting for her to stay as she was’ moments by the end, really managed to surprise me.
There was a bit more of the sex scenes in this book than in her previous ones, but it never overpowered or took over the story as happens in so many romances now a days. While I love her hot and steamy sex scenes, leaving it at the bedroom door after two or three explicit scenes is the perfect balance to me.
The only concern I have with some of these demon/vampire couples, and more so with Creed and Melody, is the fact that they have a magical bond but Melody is not Creed’s True Mate. In the last book it worked out because Zoey had already loved and lost her True Mate so the bond she had with Stryke worked for me. But Creed’s True Mate is still out there somewhere, so what happens someday if he comes across her while bonded to Melody? It is a real concern I have that Marie needs to address at some point in a future book.
I must also confess that at the beginning when Melody was in a coma and Creed watched over her, there was a little part of me that hoped that the demon Quution’s fascination with her might turn this book into a ménage instead. Obviously that didn’t happen but it sure was a teaser! LOL! I’m also thinking now that Quution might have met his match with his fellow Circle member Xen possibly? I will be anxiously waiting for his story now to see if I am right.
If you have read the other books in this series you will not be disappointed in Melody and Creed’s story. If you haven’t, then you will be doing yourself a favor by starting with ‘Demetrius’ and reading all 5 books. Heck, start with ‘Fever Claim’ and Marie will introduce you to a fun paranormal world that you will be glad you visited.

This is the latest installment in Marie Johnston's world of vampires, shifters and demons which began with the Sigma Menace series. The New Vampire Disorder books deal with the fall out of the events in the first series.

This book focusses on Melody, a human who was pulled into their world, and what happens when she becomes, well a little less human, and her relationship with Creed, who has been hurt by loving a human in the past. Although each of the books could technically be read as standalones, this one does a lot of world building as well, especially of the demon underworld, and sets the scene for future books.
I really enjoyed this - we've all wondered at one point or another what we'd do if we suddenly acquired super human powers, but this shows the downside to it as well, and how they can impact those around you.
Can't wait to see where we go next!

I love this series, so I was thrilled to receive an ARC of this book. I think you should read all of these books in order so that you understand what is happening from the beginning. I'm sure you could figure it out if you pick this up as a stand alone, but I feel that all series books should be read as a series.
No spoilers or blurb rehash for me, so I'm just going to tell you that this is a very gripping, emotional read. There is a lot going on and it will keep you glued to the pages from beginning to end. The romance is between Melody and Creed has moments of heartbreak, frustration, and passion. When I started the book I wasn't too sure about the characters. They had some personality traits that bothered me, but by the end of it I was sighing with pleasure and had a huge smile on my face. Marie Johnston tells a beautiful, complex story and I highly recommend her books.

Creed: A New Vampire Disorder book 5 is an absolutely fangtastic book by Marie Johnston. I won’t be giving away too many spoilers because I won’t be able to stop myself. This is the story of Melody and Creed, Melody starts changing into a demon but can Creed save Hera d can these two have a happily ever after? If you want to know what happens then you need to get this book and trust me you won’t regret it. I loved this book and it’s the 1st one I’ve reviewed for Marie and I know it won’t be the last. This is a fantastic read and it’s very well written, great characters and let’s not forget the steamy hot scenes. I highly recommend this book.

Marie has managed to create yet another great installment to the New Vampire disorder world!!! We get to continue on with those vamps and demons we already know and love while finding out what becomes of Melody and Creed!!! There’s action,lust ,fugly demons and oh so much more!!!

I like this vampire romance book. The storyline is very good and the characters are quite developed. This series should be read in order to fully understand the cast of characters and storyline. I enjoyed this book. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
