She was born with a silver spoon in her mouth.

And it nearly choked her.

Born into wealth and privilege, Ophelia knows better than anyone the rot that hides at the top. That’s because she’s made it her job to clean up the filth. So when the butler of a prominent vampire family shows up on her doorstep, pleading for sanctuary for him and his employers’ teenage scion, she expects nothing but tarnished silver.

Bastian has long since lost his belief that those who rule his people ever deserved the privilege, but now he must turn to one of the elite to save the girl he thinks of as his daughter. Yet while Ophelia’s ideologies chafe, she’s different. He also knows better than anyone how betrayal destroys, and why she’s steeled herself against everyone, including him.

Together, Bastian and Ophelia must hunt the demons that threaten their race, but their class differences—and their dangerous chemistry—threaten to topple their partnership. If they can’t work together, the demons will conquer all, starting with Bastian’s innocent charge.

The hunt is on. Get your copy now.

Marie Johnston is an award-winning, best-selling paranormal and contemporary romance writer. She grew up in the upper Midwest and planned to go to college for English. Didn't happen. She started college in accounting and was awful! Grabbing her inner science geek by the pocket protector, she changed to microbiology and medical technology where her only writing involved scientific articles and procedures.
Eventually, she left full-time work for full-time baby raising but kept thinking, "one day, I'd like to write a book." Finally, before any more time passed, Marie decided to buckle down and write. She loves it!

Bastian Dean’s protective instincts were at high alert as he moved silently toward the source of his anxiety. Something was wrong. Antonia needed his protection. He was only a servant and not permitted in this section of the manor; but he listened to the voices and smelled sulfur in the air. Using his phone’s camera, he recorded whatever was beyond the open door, muted it and played it back. There was a hideous beast in the room, and Antonia’s mother, Madame Gaston, had apparently made a deal to use her daughter in exchange for immense power in the underworld.

As they pressured Antonia to read words from a paper, she refused. An unrecognized vampire held a stake to Madame Gaston’s back, pretending to be a threat so Antonia would read the paper. Bastian had to take action now! He threw his phone hard at the beast’s head; it roared and turned to him, touching the white protection circle with a toe, causing it to screech in pain. In the chaos, Bastian ran in and grabbed Antonia to get her out of there. He ran to the servants’ area, knowing the snobbish primes would never have been there before. He was shot in the back, but kept moving, escaping to the outside by diving through a window with Antonia. He transported them by flashing to a place the master would never know about. Then with Bastian almost unconscious, they went to find help.

Ophelia let them in and gave her healing blood to save Bastian. She looked at the paper Antonia had crushed in her hand and realized the underworld was trying to make the girl a “host”, bonding her with a purebred evil Circle member. With an attraction brewing between Bastian and the prime warrior Ophelia, would they be able to work together to hunt down the enemy demons to protect not only Antonia but their entire race against such evil?

I absolutely loved this book! The characters were so expertly drawn that the reader could actually feel the evil emanate from the underworld aggressors. Bastian, a strong, decent, and definite hero-type was so admirable! I couldn’t get enough of him! He really did have a heart of gold in his caring nature for others. And Ophelia shows her brokenness and vulnerability hidden under the strong warrior she is. The secondary characters were equally amazing! The story line moved along perfectly, pulling in the terror of the fight scenes, and the tenderness in the love or comforting scenes. The reader can’t help but be drawn in to experience all of these things with the characters! It was thrilling and satisfying – definitely grab a copy and thoroughly enjoy as I did!

Wealth and privilege have set Ophelia apart from others, it has also jaded her and hardened her heart. Her fidelity, loyalty, and morals are sneered at, mocked, and taken advantage of by those who should love her most and it's only when she allows Bastian into her life, and her heart, that she gets a glimpse that perhaps life, and love, can be different. Her purpose meets her sanctuary.

The background conflict was always present but the relationships felt like they were getting off track, they didn't feel as...central to the character's "journey". Here I feel like this is the start to getting back on track, even though this is almost the end of the series, it's better late than never, right? In the last couple of books it was as if the duty came before heart. Sometimes a tough decision must be made and our personal desires have to take a back seat to the greater good, I get that. But the heart part was a nice side benefit to having their purpose and ambition satisfied rather than finding the strength, healing, and peace of finding your heart and soul's home, a true safe place that would allow them to more fully carry out their duty and responsibilities.

Bastian gives us more. Of all the primes in this group it's Ophelia that has more damage to heal so I'm glad this focus changes so she could finally get the healing, peace, acceptance, and support she truly needed. Bastian had patience, heart, perseverance, and the fortitude to be the right and best partner to the kick-ass yet vulnerable Ophelia.

As for the demon/vampire conflict, things are getting more complicated in a way that's captivating and intriguing. If you haven't read the books before now, you'll probably be completely lost. The direction is so good, I'm on pins and needles to see the crossing over of realms and the consequences for everyone...I can't wait to read The Seer and Q's story!!

'Bastian' is book 6 in the New Vampire Disorder series. It can be read as a stand-alone, but I think you would get so much more enjoyment out of it if you read the other books in the series first.

As usual Marie never disappoints in this series. She really works hard to make sure both male and female characters are never cookie cutter repeat versions in each book. This one is no different. Bastian is not a prime male, but is actually a servant, definitely lower on the food chain in their world. Ophelia is a prime female, so definitely above him in all the ways that matter in their world. That doesn't seem to stop two such wonderful characters from getting together.

I loved Bastian from the beginning. He's definitely the type of male that women read these stories for. Ophelia is a warrior, but is also a broken woman, who has a tragic past. Needless to say Bastian helps her get over it while fighting demons from the underworld together.

The sex scenes between these two sizzle, and the affection is clear, even though poor Ophelia tries to fight it all the way. Bastian is a strong male, confident and assured of his place in the lower ranks of vampire society, yet he is the ying to Ophelia's yang. They're absolutely perfect for each other.

Marie has another winner on her hands with the latest installment of the New Vampire Disorder series. Just don't start reading it late at night because you may end up doing what I did, staying up all night reading 'just one more chapter.'

This is book 6 in the New Vampire Disorder series and I absolutely loved it. I’m not giving any spoilers so read Marie’s blurb and that will give you the gist to this story. I have books 1 to 5 and they are all fantastic but this one is even better. I love how Bastian is a servant he is smart, sexy and has a good heart, Ophelia was born in the upper class she is a warrior with a tragic past. Thank you Marie for another addition to this wonderful series and I hope this series never ends but I guess that good things come to an end sooner or later, let’s just hope later ( hint hint ) lol. I loved this book and I know that you will too so get that finger and one click you won’t be sorry, and who doesn’t love a sexy and kind hearted vampire?. This is a 5 ⭐️ plus read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Ophelia is a Prime vampire, with her share of baggage, who does what she needs to, to make up for what happened in her past. Bastian was the servant of another Prime family, who comes to the compound for help.

Their differing backgrounds and assumptions on what each other must be like play out against the demons' latest attempts to infiltrate the world above ground as they learn to trust each other.

I've never quite taken to Ophelia in the other books, but I'm looking forward to re-reading them now I know more of her backstory, and made her how she is.

I don't know what when wrong for me with this book, but I had the hardest time getting through it. The writing was just as good as previous books, but I had a really hard time connecting to hero and heroine (mostly the heroine). Both had interesting back stories and potential, but Olivia came off as incredibly unlikable and Bastian was fairly blah compared to the heroes of the previous novels. By the time I got about half way through the book I just started skimming. Have loved this series so far, hoping this one was just a fluke.

I like them all

I enjoy a series when it allows me to know the characters and move with them through the story. I like happy endings I like romance I like to get involved in the emotional struggle and share the sign of relief. I like the stepping out of my world into fantasy just to know I can . This author does this and I am ready for the next book.
